Hasta La Gadget!

Look, not even the source of these images is absolutely certain that the device in his possession is a legitimate iPad 2, but we can’t very well leave you spending your entire day anticipating Apple’s new tablet launch without a potential candidate for what it might eventually look like. The above mockup has been procured over in China (where else?) and seems to tally closely with speculation we’ve been hearing about this hardware refresh — namely, a slimmer profile, an almost entirely flat back, bigger speaker, and of course, rear- and front-facing cameras. We’ve looked into the digits on the back of the device and the model number is one for the original Apple TV while the FCC ID is for a WiFi-only iPad, but those could be mere placeholders on what is, once again, a mockup and not a real working tablet. The SIM card slot looks to have been repositioned to a slot that was once expected to house an SD card reader. Other tidbits of interest here include the 3G antenna, whose white cover is expected to be black on final units, and the sloped power button and headphone jack, bringing those witty “jumbo iPod touch” jokes to mind. So how’s our little leaked friend the alleged BlackBerry Bold Touch doing as Canada’s winter continues to rage? Looks like he’s all wrapped up and toasty in a tasteful carbon fiber weave. N4BB nabbed the first real-life photos of the triple-input-device OS 6.1 smartphone, which confirm its 640 x 480 VGA screen, though the publication says it’s also gained storage space (6.5GB flash) and lost memory (512MB of RAM) since the last time we heard its specs. There’s apparently still a 5 megapixel camera to be had, as well as a magnetometer, accelerometer and proximity sensor, and — as the rumor mill whispered in January — integrated NFC. Still no word on processing power, but it sure sounds like it’ll mop the floor with the Torch either way.

The rumored Xperia Neo still isn’t official — we think we’re probably looking at MWC next week for that — but there are enough floating around at this point so that they’re getting tested pretty thoroughly (or, at least as thoroughly as you can test a pre-production device). The latest tidbit comes via a series of videos and stills that put the phone’s 8.1 megapixel sensor through its paces; frankly, they look a little washed out, but it’s really common for camera performance to improve by leaps and bounds through firmware updates right up until a phone’s commercial release so we don’t want to sound the alarm quite yet. My Android Life has also thrown together a quick video walkthrough of the UI, where you see that Sony Ericsson seems to be standardizing on the same experience first seen on the Xperia Arc and later on the Xperia Play — highly widgetized with a Gingerbread core. All things considered, it seems the Arc’s a higher-end device — but if the price is right, this Neo could win some hearts as well. Follow the break for the UI walkthrough.

Considering rumors we’ve heard of a VGA display, we’d assumed that Nokia’s E6 would probably have a large touchscreen — but these shots we’ve just received look… well, a little different. Instead, it seems that Espoo’s planning to gently massage the winning portrait QWERTY formula already well established by the E71 and E72, bumping out a proper big brother to the E5. Around back, you see an 8 megapixel camera (possibly the same EDoF unit that’s in the E7) along with a dual LED flash; on front, that could very well be a VGA display, we suppose, considering the uptick in pixel density that everyone’s been pushing the past year. If we had to guess, this puppy is a lock for MWC — but in light of the crazy rumors floating around Nokia the past few days, all bets are off.

You could argue that Motorola still has some work to do to emerge the hole it dug itself while pushing back major version updates for its early Android devices time and time again, but it’s definitely improving — and it looks like a Blur-ified build of Gingerbread for the Droid X is already starting to leak. As you might recall, Moto’s 4.3-inch beast launched on Eclair before getting Froyo a few months later, so the fact that the company is seemingly preparing its second big update already is notable to say the least; it looks to be basically the same thing they’ve already shown on the Atrix, which is definitely a marked improvement from the Blur of old. No word on how the source got these shots, but we can only hope it means the over-the-air update isn’t too far off.
