Palm Pre casually boots from the cold comfort of a blue Corian countertop

If we were a Palm employee and someone caught us using a Pre in public right about now — being the bumbling, unsuave fools that we are — we imagine the conversation would go something like this:

“Excuse me, sir, is that a Palm Pre?”

“What, this? No, it’s a RAZR.”

“Why does it look like a Pre then? And why does the screen say Palm on it?”

“Ah, uh, [unintelligible] emulator… it’s in the App Store. I, uh…”

“You can use the App Store with a RAZR?”

“Yes. Gotta… I’m late for… good talking to you!”

And with that, we’d hurriedly stuff our crap into our Jack Spade (nervously dropping the Pre three times in the process), knock over our triple tall latte, apologize to no one in particular, and run-walk aimlessly away.

Palm Pre pics released into the wild by Sprint freedom fighter

You know, if you’re going to post pics of yourself onto the Internet goofing around with the Palm Pre in a Sprint back-office, Engadget’s going to be there to post them. However, if your dumb enough not to block out your face, well, guess we’ll have to do that for you. After all, you’re likely not bright enough to find a new job after having committed gun powder treason. Word of advice: get a new hat. A few more after the break.

[Thanks, PreCentral tipsters]

MSI’s long-lasting Wind U100 PLUS found in the wild, totally not worth it

We know it’s a struggle to differentiate in the netbook market, MSI, but $533 US (based on the $699 Australian it’s been spotted at) for 802.11n and a bit of extra standard battery life seems a bit of a stretch, especially in the face of Dell’s aggressively priced and similarly specced Mini 10. While it’s nice that the Wind U100 PLUS weighs in at around 2 pounds and boasts 7 hours of use off of the standard 3-cell, it’s still just Atom underneath — anything more than a few hundies and we start to feel silly.

BlackBerry “Onyx” in the wild

We’ve obtained pictures of a device that we’re told is the “Onyx,” a 3G-enabled GSM BlackBerry that looks like a slightly sexier, smaller version of the Bold with some Niagara / Tour genes thrown in for good measure. We’d previously heard that this phone is ultimately destined for AT&T (while a UMA-enabled version might come to T-Mobile as the Driftwood), which definitely takes the edge off of the impending 8900 launch over there — but then again, this is a prototype, and it’ll be many moons (at best) before this thing gets launched. Every time we look at the Bold, it looks more out of proportion — and sexy beasts like this one certainly aren’t helping matters. Keep on keepin’ on, RIM.

Samsung Alias 2 and Motorola Rival a445 appear in the wild

Got enough electronic ink yet this week? Hope not, cause here’s the Samsung Alias 2 in the wild, complete with that segmented E Ink keypad. Apparently mode changes happen smoothly and quickly, so our usability fears now just boil down to feel — those buttons do not look fun to press. We’ll see when it launches on May 11.

Oh, and teenyboppers on the V might want to check out the blurry pic of the Motorola Rival a445 / Rush 2 after the break — it’s not going to blow your mind, but we hear you’re into the colorful QWERTY slider scene these days. You scamps.

HTC Hero caught flashing some Android in the wild?

Remember that shockingly pink (false color, we presume) Hero that was allegedly part of HTC’s planned Android lineup for 2009? CodeAndroid appears to have nabbed the first in-the-wild shots of the very phone, and it’s got every bit as much “chin” in real life as it did in those fuchsia renders. That could be good or bad news depending on just how strongly you feel about the G1’s unforgettable cosmetics, but also notable here is that we appear to have an honest-to-goodness 3.5mm headphone jack up top — a first for an HTC Android device — and an utter lack of any d-pad. The trackball is certainly gone, so unless there’s some wild touch-sensitive area below the screen, it seems like the touchscreen might be the only way to navigate. How this phone ultimately stacks up against its stablemates when it hits the market later this year remains to be seen, but at a quick glance, we’d say the Magic’s looking more like a beauty queen than ever.

Caltrain sighting suggests Palm Pre may be real

Hard to believe, we know, but another seemingly real Pre in the wild finally has us thinking that this whole “webOS” business Palm keeps yammering about might be an actual product after all. Time will tell.

Samsung’s Android-powered I7500 caught in smudgy Russian wilds

Frankly, if we were forced to choose between smudgy and blurry, we’d take the former each day of the week. Russia’s own Mobile-Review has somehow already managed to wrap its paws around one of the newly released Android-based I7500s, and while it’s not really a drastic departure from Sammy’s other smartphones of late, it’s still worth a peek if you’re suddenly in the market for one. Check the read link for the goods.

Palm Pre spotted in the wild, possibly running YouTube

It’s not clear exactly where these pics came from, but here’s the Palm Pre, running what appears to be a YouTube app and the email app. We’re of two minds on these: there’s no doubt there are devices in the wild, so these shots could be totally real, but something about them just feels off — that “Search All Videos” font seems way more Sprint than Palm, for example. Here’s hoping we find out what’s what real soon. One more shot after the break.

Update: One more pic here, showing it off next to an iPhone.

Plantronics Voyager PRO gets purchased, unboxed early

Plantronics isn’t planning to share intimate details about its Voyager PRO Bluetooth headset until April 23rd, but evidently its supply chain executives didn’t exactly touch base with marketing before sending out stock to Best Buy. Jeff and John both managed to procure the $119.99 Bluetooth headset over the weekend, and we’ve got the shots to prove it. Based on the teaser site down in the read link, this here headset should be it’s most advanced yet, but for a buck twenty, it better answer and respond to our calls without us having to intervene.

[Thanks, Jeff and John]
