MSI’s MT-V660 goes to the Zune HD bank for design ‘inspiration’

Well, at least MSI has good taste. We can’t fault the company for nabbing a multitude of Zune HD stylistic elements in the creation of its new MT-V660 PMP — outside of general moral qualms, of course — because the results are predictably attractive. Such brazen style-lifts aren’t a first for MSI, who took quite a few pages out of the MacBook Air book for its first X-Slim. Like we said, good taste. The MT-V660 itself has a 3.2-inch WQVGA screen and a codec-friendly Rockchip RK2806 chipset instead of the Zune’s Tegra. No word on price or availability.

It doesn’t get much better than this, folks. If KIRF is an art form this right here is your Mona Lisa, your Starry Night, your… painting with that dude screaming on a wharf. You know the one. Anyway, this is about the best iPod Nano knockoff we’ve ever seen, cloning that flat, proprietary connector and sporting a UI that would make the most ardent of Apple fanboys look twice. It has a camera on the back like the 5G, but trumps the Nano with support for a predictably wide suite of file formats and a price of just $33.25. A bargain, so long as you don’t mind the measly 2GB of storage and the nagging sense of guilt that comes with buying a fake — even if it is a spectacularly good one.

Meizu M8 app store to become reality this month?

Now that Meizu is setting the M8 up with some new firmware and further turning its back on the handset’s KIRFish origins, how about an app store? Apparently that’s exactly what’s happening, as the following video will attest. Not too many details here — it’s called MyStore, and the company is planning to split revenue with developers 30 / 70. The store is currently being tested internally, and with any luck it should see the light of day as a part of the new firmware release later this month. If you’ve been dying for a chance to play a Chinese knockoff of BubbleWrap, that day is finally drawing near! See for yourself after the break.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXLV: the Nokia iPhone

Alright, so iPhone and N97 knock-offs probably aren’t the rarest of gems around these days, but how many handsets do you know that can lay claim to being both? The Cooli902 takes the iPhone’s 3.5-inch touchscreen, spit-shines a pretty realistic iPhone OS clone-job, and then adds the Nokia flavor with a fully fledged QWERTY keypad ripped straight from the heart of the N97. Not only does it open to that familiar angle, it also sports the same layout and what we can only imagine to be the same violent opening mechanism as found on the original Nokia handset. And to think that poor Philippe Starck had to pick between these two phones, when for only $143 we could have had both. More pics after the break, or hit the read link to get your own.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXLIII: faux MacBook Air review (video)

Our good friends at Shanzai.com have recently got their hands on what they believe to be the king of all MacBook Air KIRFs, and put it through the ringer. Expecting a laugh riot? Not so fast — what we have here is a pretty decent netbook, apparently. Features include an Intel Atom N280, 13-inch display, good build quality, a form factor similar in size and weight to Apple’s original, a real chicklet keyboard, a remote control, and I/O options rivaling the original (including an Ethernet port, two USB ports, and HDMI). Not bad for $260. But don’t take our word for it — peep the video after the break for the whole sordid tale.

Sciphone’s Android-loving N21 gets some time on video

There’s just something about Sciphone’s Android-based handset, the N21, that we can’t get enough of. This KIRF-tastic little dude has attitude in droves, to go with its clunky exterior. The 3-inch touchscreener boasts a 5 megapixel cam, WiFi, and an onscreen keyboard — not to mention what looks like a killer stylus experience. In the video (which is after the break), you can check out the many and varied features of this looker of a device.

Chinese Dreamcast portable mod may inspire KIRFs, or already is one

You thought the DreamTrooper would be the last portablized Sega Dreamcast mod you’d ever see? Nah. Turns out some folk in China quietly showed off an Oriental take on the mod — not too dissimilar from the form factor of the GameBoy Advance — just before the DreamTrooper’s debut. Details are thin here, but we’re hoping for a built-in optical drive and a decent battery life. If we’re lucky, some KIRF makers might pick up this idea and revive the legendary Dreamcast brand, so don’t go selling your dusty game collection on eBay just yet. Go ahead and watch some The King of Fighters action after the break. We know the Swirl still captivates your heart.

This Google’s made from 100% Virgin pulp, not chrome

Hey, it may not be from California but at least this KIRF‘s registered with the Vietnamese trademark office (right). Anywho, according to Google’s own machine translation, the subtext of this product reads, “Very long, soft, smooth. Of high vacuum, because you always!” Reflect on that while you pick up the simmering scraps of your mind — work can wait.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXLII: Aphone A6 is all about Android, aping Apple (video)

An Android and iPhone hybrid isn’t exactly new (hello, OPhone), but at least we can say this has a trackball. In fact, you might even mistaken this for iPhone OS at first glance, it’s just that kind of doppelganger. The fine details, you say? The GSM (EDGE only, no 3G) device sports a 3.5-inch LCD display with capacitive multitouch, 2 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and the part that really bests it over Apple’s offering, a trackball!
