Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXXI: Nokla E97 probably looks much better than it performs

You know what? The Nokla E97 is not a bad looking handset. Of course, with a 2.2-inch touchscreen, things could get ugly real quick if the UI isn’t up to snuff — and we’re guessing it ain’t. And sure, the detachable keyboard looks a little flimsy — but all in all, not too shabby for 800 yuan, or about $117 (before you factor in the flight to China, of course). Also featured: handwriting recognition, dual SIM card slots, FM radio, and an MP3 player. But really, with a device like this what you’re paying for is the class and prestige associated with the Nokla name. And how can you put a price on that? More photos after the break.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXX: Inkia 500 is a mutated, hamstrung N810

How do you cook up the perfect KIRF product? Well, you take a well-loved device, say the Nokia N810, and start chopping off the things that made it a winner, like that oh-so-bulky QWERTY keyboard, until you get a device cheap enough to be sold as “the world’s first MID under $300.” The painfully unoriginal Inkia 500 — which isn’t even the first to rip off Nokia’s internet tablet — isn’t entirely without merit, as it comes with a 5-inch touchscreen plus a ULV Atom processor, and once you pony up for 3G and GPS options it might even be useful. All that’s holding it back now is the tiny issue that you can get a real N810 for the same price.

Lenovo’s Android-powered O1 ‘OPhone’ due next month

Good news, kids! It looks like Lenovo’s O1 “OPhone” handset is finally ready to hit the shelves over on the Mainland sometime next month. Truth be told, the story arc of this Android-powered 3G (TD-SCDMA) handset has been quite the emotional roller coaster: Some were riveted by the sleek, sexy physical design of the thing, while others were repelled by its intensely KIRFish UI. China Mobile is obviously hoping for big things from the little guy — and getting it into stores before Unicom gets the iPhone sorted can’t hurt. Either way, it looks like someone’s just taken a bite out of iOrgane’s market share!

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXIX: we see right through the N68’s antics

If you absolutely, positively must be able to see the palm of your hand while dialing, you might think that LG’s lovely GD900 is the only game in town — but you’d be very, very wrong. In fact, for the price of a single GD900, you could have a whole army of these $70 N68s delivered to your door, each bearing a pirate’s booty of knicked branding and design. From the Nokia Nseries-esque model name, to the nav button layout vaguely reminiscent of the N95, to the thick slab of Lexan masquerading as a keypad, this one’s a keeper — and if that’s all not enough to convince you, the “8.0 pixels” camera around back just might seal the deal. Still not sold? See some sample output after the break.

Iorgane's KIRFy F9 soon available, our hearts will move on

Can’t make up your mind between an iPhone or a Touchwiz? Are you not too proud to sport a knockoff? Do you really, really like smooth jazz? Bring on the Iorgane F9, an update to the knock-off so sour that it just kept popping up again and again, soon available for purchase in 2, 4, and 8GB flavors. The orange-emblazoned F9 (it looks like a fat apple to us) is lovingly demonstrated below with the soothing strains of Kenny Gorelick — a man better known to elevators around the world under a different name. Take it away, Kenny G…

Avatar Digital Binocular Sports camera is a little bit KIRF-y, a little bit crazy

Sure, you can get a relatively compact camera with a nice built-in 10x, 15x, or even 20x optical zoom, but where’s the fun in that? This new so-called Avatar Digital Binocular Sports camera, however, will never be saddled with labels like “boring” or “practical.” It’s big selling point, as you can see, is 21x optical zoom that gets further bolstered by a blinding 40x digital zoom, all of which apparently must be managed without such niceties as auto focus. On the business end of the equation is a 2-megapixel camera with a 2.5-inch LCD, which just so happens to also double as a full-fledged media player with a curiously familiar-looking interface (check it out after the break). The best news? It’s available to order right now for just $128, or even less if you buy ’em in bulk. Never to early to start that holiday shopping.

Caption contest: Google Checkout finally finds a home

Reader Milad sends in this picture of a Lebanese grocery store suffering from a little branding envy.

Nilay: “This is not what we expected by “‘innovative windowing system.'”
Chris: “Oh, so this is what Orkut is.”
Ross: “Interestingly, the produce section has a sale on blackberries.”
Darren: “And you thought Google Groceries was a belated April Fool’s prank.”
Paul: “Our VeggieRank was suspiciously low.”
Thomas H.: “I’m Feeling Lucky doesn’t work so well with produce.”
Josh F.: “No, really. It’s pronounced ‘Goo-Glay.’ It’s French.”
Richard: “Unfortunately, AisleView is not available in the scones, tea and treacle section.”
Ross R.: “Our carrots put the beta in their Beta-carotene.”
Thomas R.: “Do you sell Bing?”

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXVII: Rolex watchphone is, in fact, neither

The Rolex watchphone is neither a Rolex nor a watchphone — unless your definition includes handsets with a watch face embedded on the outside (and ours doesn’t). But either way, it’s probably safe to say that this bad boy does not sport a precision-made Swiss timepiece. Features include a 2.6-inch display, dual SIM, an FM radio, and presumably some sort of camera. Unlike the Swiss Rolex, the Shanzhai Rolex can be yours for the low, low price of 690 yuan (that’s about $101). More mouth-watering KIRFness after the break.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXVI: Soniphone C908 takes a little o’ this, a little o’ that

Well, what do we have here? The Soniphone C908 is just a confused mishmash of branded signals — Sony Ericsson is plainly visible across the top of the LCD, but a little Walkman branding was thrown in under it just for added fun. And, just in case you needed another, completely different reason to have your interest piqued, they threw in a wheel that is suspiciously iPod-like. This classy baby is undoubtedly worth every penny (it’ll run you about $117 to grab one), if you decide you can’t live without one. One more shot after the break.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCXXV: Fashion A10 netbook strikes a pose, Acer-style

Sadly, plenty of folks just can’t seem to shake the notion that “netbooks” and “high fashion” go hand in hand — and clearly the KIRFmeisters of Shenzhen and environs are no exception. As if that couldn’t be any clearer, the kids at Shanzai.com have clued us in on the JingWah Digital Fashion A10, a note-by-note replica of the Aspire One. Aside from the 1.6GHz VIA C7-M CPU, the similarities are striking, including: an 8.9-inch TFT display with a 1024 x 600 resolution, 160GB hard drive, and 1GB of RAM. Sure, it’s no powerhouse, but if the price is right it’ll make a pretty decent accessory. In fact, throw on your Momenta necklace and slap on a pair of 4GB Calvin Kleins and you’ll be able to strut past any velvet rope your encounter (provided the line at the door leads to a LAN party or the BiMonSciFiCon). Theme music after the break.
