Dell’s 2209WA LCD monitor reviewed, deemed king of 22-inchers

Dell’s 2209WA just surfaced a few days ago, and already we’re seeing the first review of said panel courtesy of CNET‘s Australian branch. The 22-inch IPS display was said to boast “excellent color and viewing angles and great gaming performance” at a fantastic price point, with the only real knocks being the omission of 1:1 scaling and the inset design which occasionally caused reflections. Yeah, minor quibbles indeed. In fact, reviewers struggled to even find those, and they were downright giddy to hand out a 9 out of 10 rating along with this strongly worded quote: “This is the best 22-inch monitor we’ve seen.” ‘Nuff said, huh?

Samsung’s LED-backlit P2370L LCD monitor looks good for $399

Comically enough, Samsung didn’t even bother telling us the panel size of its P2370L, but we’ll go out on a limb and assume it’s 23-inches diagonally based on the cryptic model name. The latest member of Sammy’s Touch of Color family sports a LED backlight, a depth of just 0.65-inches, 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, two-millisecond response time, DVI input, 1080p native resolution, a swivel stand and “Starlight” touch controls. If in fact we’re looking at a 23-inch LED-backlit LCD for just $399, we’d say it’s quite the bargain — particularly when compared to Apple’s 24-incher (which runs $899). Guess we’ll find out when it ships later this quarter.

Apple’s 24-inch LED Cinema Display goes touchscreen courtesy of Troll Touch

Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Apple’s 24-inch LED Cinema Display knows that it’s hard to lay off on the touching. No one knows that better than Troll Touch, who has just announced a touch panel integration kit for Apple’s freshest LCD. The touchscreen gets powered internally via USB, and the custom touchscreen overlay design doesn’t alter the panel’s form factor in any way. Those looking to dive in from scratch can order a touch-enabled version now for $2,299, but those looking to simply upgrade their own can ship it to Valencia, California along with $1,399 marked for integration. Talk about a steep price to pay for permission to touch.

Dell’s 22-inch UltraSharp 2209WA LCD monitor surfaces

Dell Canada is good for being the first to show off new LCDs, and yet again we’re getting an early look at a forthcoming monitor courtesy of the Great White North. The 22-inch UltraSharp 2209WA will evidently arrive with a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, 300 nits of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angles and a 5-millisecond response time. It also features VGA and DVI connectors, four USB 2.0 ports and an undisclosed price tag. It’ll supposed ship in one to two weeks, but given that there’s not even an image available yet, we’re not so sure we’d bet the farm on that estimate being accurate.

ViewSonic turns off spell check, launches Fuhzion line of 3D display devices

ViewSonic turns off spell check, launches Fuhzion line of 3D display devices

3D displays are hotter than Hansel right now, and ViewSonic is getting in to the new (old) tech of goggle-driven depth with a line of displays dubbed Fuhzion. First up is the 22-inch VX2265wm LCD, announced last year and sounding quite similar to the Samsung 2233RZ from yesterday. It’s a 1680 x 1050, 120Hz panel with a 2ms response rate, enabling it to tackle the quick cycling that will be required to reproduce a 3D image. The other addition to the line is the PJD6220-3D DLP projector, an updated (or at least renamed) version of the company’s existing PJD6220, illuminating 1024 x 768 pixels at 120Hz and a respectable contrast ratio of 2000:1. The projector is due next month for $1,499, while the VX2265wm drops in the next few weeks for a rather more reasonable $399 — another stat that happens to match Samsung’s offering.

Vizio presents 240Hz, LED backlit updates to the XVT series

Just nabbed a 55-inch 1080p Vizio XVT for Chrismakwanzika and feeling good about yourself? Consider a return, because the specs on the new models are here and the list is long. Music, 1080p movies (MPEG-2, h.264 & WMV9) or pics from a USB drive? The whole line has that with Vizio’s Multi-media hookup, while LED backlighting, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 5 HDMI ports are kept exclusive to the $1,999 55-inch VF551XVT1A. 42- and 47-inch models share the 240Hz motion technology that’s become so popular with their larger relative, but only rock 50,000:1 contrast and 4 HDMI jacks for $1,099 and $1,399 respectively. 32- and 37-inch aficionados can expect 120Hz refresh rates for $749 and $999 respectively when they ship in the fall, while the rest of the pack are summer babies. Of course, by then you’d probably want to wait for a Connected HDTV….we love this time of year.

Westinghouse breaks off four new LCD monitors at CES

Aside from completely melting our brains with 14 new HDTVs, Westinghouse is contributing an entirely more manageable number of LCD monitors to the scene here in Vegas. On the small end we’ve got the 20-inch L2031NW, which offers a 1,600 x 900 resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 250 nits of brightness, inbuilt stereo speakers and HDMI / VGA / stereo audio inputs. The 22-inch L2220HW steps it up with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, while the 24-inch L2427HW adds in twin HDMI inputs. The 26-inch L2635HW closes out the group with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and 300 nits of brightness, though prices for the lot aren’t yet available. Full specs are just after the break.

Samsung LCD 750, Plasma PDP 850, new LED series hands-on

Sure, Panasonic’s 0.33-inch thin Neo PDP might have just redefined our definition of thin, but the new Samsung HDTV are quite the lookers. The form factor, like the company’s touted UI initiative, is fairly unified in appearance across all models. Frankly, we had a pretty hard time telling them apart, and all we could really think about is how awesome they’d look in our living rooms. Hard to tell from the gallery below, but trust us, the picture quality is very crisp and clean. Now if we could only get a glimpse of Internet@TV in action.

Sony brings Yahoo! widgets to 1080p ZBR9 / Z-Series HDTVs

No surprise here, but Sony‘s making darn sure it’s not left behind in the connected HDTV arena by introducing seven new sets that all look to the Yahoo! Widget Engine to pull down Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Slacker and other web-based content right on one’s HDTV. Proudly dubbed Bravia Internet Widgets, the functionality will come bundled in with the firm’s ZBR9 lineup (comprised of the 52-inch KDL-52XBR9, 46-inch KDL-46XBR, 40-inch KDL-40XBR90 and 32-inch KDL-32XBR9) as well as the 52-inch KDL-52Z5100, 46-inch KDL-46Z5100, and 40-inch KDL-40Z5100. All seven sets tout 1080p panels, BRAVIA Sync, four HDMI inputs, an Ethernet jack and a cute Energy Star 3.0 sticker to boot. Gear up for TV 2.0 (or are we up to 3.0?) to land this Spring.
