Qualcomm Snapdragon roadmap leaks, Krait slithering on the scene soon

QualcommWe’ve gotten a few peeks at Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon chips, codenamed Krait, but now we’ve got a proper roadmap, including time frames for release, model numbers, and even details about the memory channels. Glancing at the slide above doesn’t reveal anything terribly surprising — the dual-core 8960 (LTE), 8270 (HSPA), and 8260A (HSPA+) will all be shipping to manufacturers later this quarter, in speeds ranging from 1.5GHz to 1.7GHz and come packing the latest Adreno 225 GPU. In Q3 of next year Qualcomm’s 28nm tech will trickle down from the high-end to mid-range phones, just ahead of the launch of those quad-core, 2GHz mobile monsters the company teased back in February. Leaked HP presentation hints at faster 64GB TouchPad in August, Pre 3 in fall?

Go grab the Morton — you’re gonna need a grain or two. According to a “confidential HP product brief” sent anonymously to PreCentral, HP is on track to launch a new 64GB TouchPad next month, complete with a white glossy cabinet and a “processor bump,” along with support for AT&T’s HSPA+ network. The company just started shipping its 16GB and 32GB TouchPads, but even August wouldn’t be too soon for a speed boost, considering the tablet’s disappointing performance during our review. The presentation also lists the Pre 3 for a “fall” launch, along with that mysterious Opal tablet. Despite the so-called leaked confidential presentation, this rumor should be approached like any other — but on the other hand, with the Pre 3 making recent appearances at the FCC in both AT&T and Verizon flavors, HP’s latest webOS smartphone could easily be on-track to hit stores by autumn.

Leaked AMD roadmap reveals next-gen Fusion tablet chips

Until recently, AMD has kept pretty mum on its tablet plans, with it only officially entering the fray last month. It’s clear that the first batch of Z-Series chips, codenamed Desna, are are not terribly different from the rest Fusion line but, according to a leaked roadmap, that will all change with its successor — Hondo. Supposedly the next gen of tablet APUs will ditch a number features that aren’t essential to burgeoning form factor, including VGA output, PCIe support, and couple of USB pathways. It will also add an “active standby” mode for maintaining connectivity while reducing power draw and cut TDP by about a third. Hondo is expect to enter production in Q2 of next year, and be succeeded by Samara which will feature a new graphics core. Check out the source link for a few more slides.

Moto mysteries abound: Droid HD posts to Flickr, new blurry cam pics

Gadget news, like dating and crate digging, is all about the thrill of the hunt. Sure, big press events where you get to manhandle the objects of your desire are fun, but give us Mr. Blurry Cam and some EXIF data any day. With that in mind, we present to you an out of focus pic of what looks like that tweaked Bionic and a reference to the Droid HD on Flickr, coming straight out of the Motorola campus in Libertyville, Illinois (since removed). Now, the two things are not necessarily related, but it’s possible that the dual-core LTE handset is getting a new name to match its updated internals and redesigned exterior (though, if it’s different inside, outside, and has a new name, is it really the Droid Bionic any more?). We do know that, what began life as the Targa, can capture 1080p video, which matches up nicely with the HD moniker. It’s also possible that the pic taker is an as yet unseen device and our (moto)blurry friend above is simply a Bionic destined for another carrier. Either way, we’re hooked — at least until the PR hits our inbox, then it’s back in the Mystery Machine.

HTC Eternity leaked: 1.5GHz processor, 4.7-inch display, front-facing camera

As the world runs short on snarky phone titles (and in fact, starts using a couple of the gems on more than one occasion), we’re left to overlook the moniker here while focusing on what’s important: that display. In fact, the 4.7-inch WVGA Super LCD shown here actually does seem to extend on for Eternity, and if HTC Inside‘s leak pans out, we could be looking at the world’s next WP7 superphone. It’s bruited that this fellow will be shipping with a single-core 1.5GHz processor, 8 megapixel camera (autofocus, dual LED flash), a 720p movie mode, front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera, 16GB of storage, DLNA support, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and a 1,650mAh battery. That’s a pretty startling list of features, and savvy Windows Phone followers will recognize that the Mango update will indeed be necessary before that front-facing shooter becomes useful. Needless to say, we’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for more, as essentials like price and release have thus far eluded us.

Nokia 700 ‘Zeta’ caught in spyshots, ready to give mobile makeovers

While we’re busy recovering from a recent overdose of Nokia eye candy, secret agents are hard at work hunting down more visual goodness for us to ogle at. These shots above are of the Nokia 700 “Zeta,” which appears to be a replacement to the C6-01. The photos show it running on Symbian Belle — Anna’s successor — and packed with a 5 megapixel camera, LED flash, and NFC support. The source indicates the Zeta will house a 1 GHz CPU and 3.2-inch nHD AMOLED display, weighs a smidge over 80g, and measures out at 10mm thick. Oddly enough, we dug up a leaked snapshot of the Zeta’s spec sheet claiming it’ll be the “thinnest smartphone ever,” which at 10mm isn’t anywhere close to earning that title.

Though no other phones were pictured, the spec sheet (shown below) brought attention to three other Symbian offerings on the roadmap: the Nokia 701 Helen has the best specs of the bunch with 8 megapixel camera and 3.5-inch ClearBlack display; there’s the Nokia 600 Cindy with NFC, 5 megapixel shooter, and 3.2-inch AMOLED; also, we’ve likely seen the Nokia 500 Fate already leaked as the N5. There’s no indication on when (or if) we can expect any of these phones to hit the market, but it looks like Mr. Elop is intent on keeping his promise. More photos after the break.

Is this the next Sony VAIO Z?

We haven’t heard much about Sony’s ultra slim VAIO Z in months, but when we have, we’ve always been left with more questions than answers. We’ve seen its specs (but not handsome face) splashed on various European websites, while Sony, for its part, has only made the coy promise that its newly redesigned S series thin-and-lights are not meant to replace the more premium Z line. Lo and behold, we’re now seeing photos of what purports to be the next-gen Z series and, as always, we’re left wanting more. In these pics, you’ve supposedly got the Z — sometimes with a black lid, sometimes gold — sitting next to an external dock housing what appears to be an optical drive. If you drop in on the gossip circles in NotebookReview‘s forum, you’ll read some speculation that there’s an external GPU baked in there, too — a compelling idea, though even “Eddie,” the guy who leaked these photos, doesn’t seem completely confident as to what that peripheral actually does. Given that the Z series has been MIA from Sony’s site for months now, we hope the company gets a move on and outs this thing — if this is, indeed, what it is. Google code reveals inner Circles, a social secret weapon?

Nothing livens the day like a blurry screen grab of some Javascript, especially when it hints at the ghostly form of a social networking tool that doesn’t officially exist. The code was spotted hiding in plain sight at Google Profiles by Austrian blogger Florian Rohrweck, who fortunately enjoys browsing computer-speak more than playing in the park. Rohrweck noticed the word “circles” used repeatedly in the context of people adding and maintaining groups of contacts, and made the connection to the Google Circles social networking platform that was feverishly rumored and then vehemently denied earlier this year (a saga fully recapped at the More Coverage link). It’s impossible to know whether these few lines of code represent a forthcoming service, another social layer on top of existing services, or just pure experimentation on the part of Google devs. In any case, the circular references have apparently now been zapped, leaving us with nothing more than that screen grab — oh yeah, and Facebook.

Tiny Olympus Micro Four Thirds Camera Body Leaked

Micro Four Thirds cameras continue to shrink, with the leaked Olympus EPM1 PEN

This looks like a pretty solid leak from Olympus, showing a new slimline Micro Four Thirds camera to be launched on June 30th. The camera is called the EPM1, and it looks to be an answer to Panasonic shrinking GF series of Micro Four Thirds cameras.

Like the GF3, the EPM1 is tiny, more in line with compacts like the XZ1 (also pictured above) than Olympus’ previous PEN cameras. It has a touch screen for control (losing some mechanical buttons in the process), stero mics for video recording and apparently has super-fast AF.

According to 43 Rumors’ source, there will be two more PEN cameras launched along with the EPM1, as well as some new lenses: a 12mm ƒ2.0 and a 45mm ƒ1.8. I can’t wait.

webOS Skype integration revealed in screenshots

We know you’ve all been losing sleep, wondering what exactly Skype integration on webOS will look like. Well, tonight, you should sleep like a baby, knowing you’ve gotten a solid peak at how the Pre 3 will handle the VoIP service. Similar to Google Voice on Android, you’ll be able to either route all international calls through Skype or force is to ask every time you press that precious dial button. We also know that it will be able to handle video calls and, at least on the O2 network in Germany, both voice and video chat will be available over WiFi and 3G. You’ll also be able to initiate sessions from either contacts or the messaging menu, so there’s no need to fire up a separate app. Now, we just need HP to get this out the door and for Microsoft to work out those reliability kinks.
