Eyes on LG’s Color Pop monitors, just called Coke in the south

Hey princess, look over here — daddy’s got a pair of new LG W30 Color Pop monitors for you. These sticky-sweet parfaits of sugar-liquid crystal come all the way from South Korea. Do you know where that is? Sure you do, just below that little man with the bouffant hairdo and Elvis specs. These 37-mm slim monitors are available in your choice of Oreo Black, Jelly Pink, Blueberry Purple, Applemint Green, and Hawaiian Blue and ship with a glossy, two-tone frame to further unsettle your mother’s sense of refinement. They come in medium (18.5-inch, 1366×768 pixels) and big (21.5-inch, 1920×1080) sizes and begin shipping in the US come September and worldwide later in the year. Just for you, ’cause you’re worth it honey.

LG Chocolate Touch for Verizon revealed?

Don’t adjust your monitors, ladies and gentlemen: this is allegedly the upcoming Chocolate Touch for Verizon, and despite our most heartfelt hopes to the contrary, it couldn’t possibly look less like the BL40. We guess the crazy stylized back is pretty cool, but frankly, this design doesn’t inspire any more emotion from us than a Versa — and that’s a big problem for a phone that’s supposed to help properly rep LG’s chic Black Label line in the US. Call us bonkers, but we’re gonna go ahead and hold out hope that this is actually something other than the Chocolate Touch — LG’s always got a ton of hardware in the pipeline for Verizon, after all — and foolishly believe that they’ll still launch a totally authentic, unfettered version of the real deal this fall. Hey, it could happen, right?

[Thanks, NKT]

Mitsubishi Shipping Vudu-Integrated 1080p LCDs

vudu logo.jpg

Mitsubishi is now shipping several of its flat-panel 1080p LCD TVs with an integrated Vudu app. Users who purchase the Diamond Unisen models, LT-46249 and LT-52249, will be able to access Vudu content directly from the TV via an Ethernet connection. They can also add an optional Vudu wireless accessory bridge to link their TVs to a wireless home network.

Vudu now offers about 2,200 HD titles and 16,000 titles overall, which you can rent or purchase. Later this month, Diamond Unisen Immersive Sound TVs will also add access to content from YouTube, Flickr, Picasa, and Pandora, as well as an “On Demand TV” area with more than 80 channels.

The 46-inch LT-46249 will cost $2,599, and the 52-inch LT-52249 will retail for $3,099. For a limited time, buyers will get $50 worth of free movie rentals or purchases from Vudu.

In other Vudu news, LG announced Tuesday that Vudu streaming is now available on its broadband HDTVs. The company first announced plans for Vudu-enabled TVs in early August, and the service is now live for LG’s LH50 1080p LCD series and PS80 plasma 1080p series with “NetCast Entertainment Access.”

Eyes-on LG’s 15-inch OLED TV makes us want to punch an LCD

What can we say — it’s a near final build of LG’s 15-inch OLED TV that’s set to go production in Korea before the baby New Year can suckle at the big one-oh. We could say it’s beautiful, that even motion looked good pushing genuine blacks on this razor thin panel. But we wouldn’t want to rub your noses in the fact that we’re at IFA and you’re not. Perhaps this will make you feel better: by the time it makes it Stateside in February or March it’ll be carrying a price tag right around $2,500. Really, but it’s Wireless TV-capable and that’s gotta be worth something.

Oh, and LG tells us that its 32- and 42-inch OLED panels are on schedule and due to be released sometime in 2010. Yes, 2010 contradicting what we’ve heard earlier. No word on price but it’s going to be tres, tres expensive.

VUDU’s 1080p movie streaming goes live on LG Netcast HDTVs

You knew good and well it was coming, and come it has. Starting today, those fortunate enough to own an LG Broadband HDTV in the LH50 LCD series and PS80 plasma range can tap into VUDU‘s growing library of on-demand 1080p films. If you’re still skeptical, we’ll invite you to surf over to your set’s Netcast interface; from there, you can either update your software to gain VUDU access or begin viewing right away (depending on when you purchased your tele). Oh, and if you’re thinking of just lallygagging around while the rest of the world takes advantage, you should know that your first HD or HDX movie rental is gratis for a limited time, so there’s some pretty obvious motivation to hop on it. Anyone given it a go? Impressed / unimpressed?

LG Dazzles With 15-inch OLED TV

lg-oled-tvLG is set to show a 15-inch OLED TV that is striking in both its luminosity and design.

The TV is expected to be introduced at the IFA 2009 consumer electric show in Berlin in September and launched at the end of the year, says the website, OLED-Display.net.

LG hasn’t revealed the pricing for these beauties but it is not likely to come cheap. Sony’s 11-inch OLED TV costs $2500.

The new LG OLED display looks much like a photo frame with its controls and ports tucked in behind the screen. The screen can be wall mounted and tilted for best viewing angle.

OLED (organic light emitting diode)-based displays are taking off in a big way with companies such as Samsung and Nokia offering mobile phones with small OLED displays. The displays are attractive to consumers because they offer extremely vivid colors and high clarity. But so far the high cost of these screens has meant the technology hasn’t become widely used in consumer products.

The new LG 15-inch OLED TV could be a sign that these displays may now be ready to take the place of LCD and Plasma in HD TVs. With mass production and high sales volume, prices of these TVs could come down rapidly in the next few years. LG is also reportedly working on a 40-inch OLED TV.

LG GW880 leaks out, runs Android on China Mobile

It’s sort of interesting that China is where all the Android action seems to be going down lately, but here we are, staring at the LG GW880 — essentially the company’s first Android phone. Of course, “Android” in this case means China Mobile‘s custom WiFi-less OPhone platform, which means we’ll probably never see this guy outside of the Middle Kingdom, but it’s a fair look at what LG’s handset designers think an Android set should look like: 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen, 256MB RAM, GPS, and a five megapixel camera. Honestly? We’re hoping LG has grander plans for those other Android phones it has planned for this year — we’ll just have to wait and see. Hit the read link for a few more shots in the meantime.

LG’s 15-inch OLED TV on sale in Korea this November, overseas in 2010

LG bared the fruits of its OLED labor last week with a new set of photos of its gorgeous 15-inch screen, and now comes word from Reuters that it’s gearing up to become consumer reality. The company will be showing off the model at next week’s IFA trade show, and then expects to start selling it in Korea this November, followed by overseas sometime next year. Excited? You bet. Affordable? Price unknown, with Sony’s two-year old 11-inch XEL-1 still retailing for $2,500 in the US — and worse elsewhere — you can expect to be sacrificing a pretty penny for small-screen bliss. LG also plans to show off a 40-inch OLED in the “not too distant future,” but don’t expect to be seeing that hit retail shelves for a good long time to come.

LG’s 15-inch OLED screen is still drop dead gorgeous, likely priced to kill

Whooo. (Not Wooo.) Amazing how a few well framed PR shots can reignite gadget lust, just when it seems extinguished. Sure, LG’s 15-inch OLED HDTV will probably follow the path of Sony’s $2,500 11-inch XEL-1 to the land of ridiculously overpriced trinkets that few can or will purchase and eventually falls by the wayside when larger, cheaper options become available. Still, checking out that ultra bright screen in these photos has us checking our bank account for an extra few grand, refreshing the feeling last experienced when we checked it out in person at CES. The appearance of these on LG’s Flickr stream would appear to support the summer mass production-December launch we’ve been promised, who else is wishing the 30-inch version wasn’t delayed until 2012?
