Verizon-branded LG Spectrum steps out in leaked press shot

LG aren’t letting up on the LTE hardware. While we’ve only just shaken hands with AT&T’s Nitro HD, this Verizon-branded 4G handset packs several design cues (and specifications) from its rival network cousin. The LG Spectrum has already appeared — albeit fleetingly — in a database listing and is likely to be the successor to Big Red’s Revolution. Pocketnow reckons that the phone will rock a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a high-definition display running at 720p and an eight megapixel shooter, although it’s hard to make out much for from these shots — aside from that protruding camera module. Regardless, life’s most certainly looking good for LG fans.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Nozomi spotted out again, can’t help but get its photo taken

Sony Ericsson’s forthcoming flagship was already looking like a very handsome slice of smartphone, but it’s even more dashing in these thankfully crystal-clear shots. This latest leak give us a nice close-up of the matte-finished monolith, showing off a dedicated camera button, HDMI port, built-in battery and the conspicuous absence of microSD storage. The LT26i is rumored to possess a 720 x 1280 resolution spread across a 4.3-inch touchscreen, with a dual-core processor behind it. Sony Ericsson also looks to have finally taken the plunge with front-facing shooters, with an as-yet unspecified camera embedded above the screen, while a stylish glassy button bar below seems to run right through the device. Samsung claims record 300 million mobile sales this year

Add together ten million Galaxy S IIs, a dollop of Galaxy Nexii, a gargantuan gathering of Galaxy Notes and a healthy serving of Badas, and what do you get? 300 million handset sales so far in 2011, that’s what. And Samsung claims that makes this the best year in its mobile-making history, surpassing 2010 by a whopping 20 million. Of course, more sales doesn’t necessarily translate into greater revenue — Nokia is still the world’s largest manufacturer by volume and is a case in point. Nevertheless, we’ll know more when Samsung reveals its Q4 earnings next month.

ST-Ericsson’s NovaThor to power Nokia’s Windows Phone devices, loosens Qualcomm’s grip

Earlier this year, as you may recall, we learned that at least some of Nokia’s Windows Phone devices would be powered by a dual-core chip from ST-Ericsson. At the time, this report came as something of a surprise, considering the fact that Qualcomm had long enjoyed hegemony over the Windows Phone market. Today, however, it becomes official, as Nokia has now selected ST-Ericsson’s NovaThor platform as its Windows Phone supplier. There is no sign, however, that this deal will be exclusive, so it’s likely that the manufacturer will continue to use Qualcomm silicon in addition to ST-Ericsson’s ARM-based line of U9500, U8500, and U5500 dual-core CPUs. We also have yet to hear any confirmation on the specific devices that these chips will power, or when they’ll go into production, though we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we get word. Sony posts $350 million loss in Q2 earnings report, forecasts full-year loss

Sony‘s Q2 earnings have just come in and, as you might guess, they’re not particularly glowing. A few days after announcing plans to buy out Ericsson’s stake in Sony Ericsson, the manufacturer posted a quarterly loss of ¥27 billion ($346 million) today, compared with a net income of ¥31.1 billion during the same quarter last year. Last quarter, the firm posted a net loss of ¥15.5 billion, or about $200 million. Sony attributed much of this decline to a stronger yen, lower TV sales and recent flooding in Thailand, which has disrupted its supply chain. On this basis, the company lowered its full year forecast, predicting a net loss of ¥90 billion ($1.2 billion), compared with a net profit of ¥60 billion that it had previously expected. It appears, then, that Sony’s TV division is primed to post an annual loss for the 8th straight year, which would certainly explain those plans for a forthcoming shakeup. Wahoo Fitness bringing $80 BlueHR heart-rate belt to iPhone 4S users

Remember that nondescript heart-rate monitoring belt we peeked back in June? Now you know the company that’s tossing out purchase orders for ’em. Wahoo Fitness has just revealed that it’ll soon be shipping its own branded version of the product — dubbed BlueHR — and at least for now, it’ll work exclusively with the iPhone 4S. Why, you ask? The 4S just so happens to have Bluetooth 4.0, and this here belt happens to utilize that very protocol. In a brief demo vid (embedded after the break), the company demonstrates it beaming out vitals to a nearby iPhone, and we’re told that it’ll be “compatible with all the top running apps like Runkeeper [as well as with] Wahoo’s own free app.” We’re guessing that the outfit will do everything it can to have this guy out by Christmastime, but for now, you can start pinching pennies in an effort to afford the looming $79.99 sticker.

Verizon Galaxy Nexus not landing til after Black Friday?

Initial rumors had the Verizon release of the Galaxy Nexus pegged for November 10th but, while the carrier has officially confirmed the flagship Android handset is coming, it’s refused to say when. Now several sources have told Droid Life not to expect our first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich until the week of Black Friday at the earliest. In fact, a leaked roadmap photo seems to suggest Big Red customers won’t be able to get their hands on one until after the busiest shopping day of the year, when it launches as part of Samsung’s “Holiday Portfolio.” If our disappointment was a flavor, we’d be Neapolitan — three shades of sad.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Torch 9860 coming to AT&T November 6th, Curve 9360 inbound November 20th

It’s been a few months in the works, but the BlackBerry 9900 and Torch 9860 have finally received AT&T’s stamp of approval and will be available this coming Sunday. And as an added bonus, the Curve 9360 isn’t too far behind, jumping onto the lineup November 20th (though if you’re a business or government customer, you’ll be able to snag one on the 14th). Pricing? With two-year commitments, the Bold 9900 will wind up costing $200, the Torch 9860 can be yours for $100 and the Curve 9360 will be a mere $30. The Torch appears to be destined only for virtual shelves right now, though we’re not certain if it’ll be making a physical appearance in retail stores any time soon. iPhone 4S arriving in Hong Kong, South Korea and a number of other locales on November 11th

Apple is getting ready to add a whole slew of new locations to its iPhone 4S world domination plan. Starting November 11th, the company’s latest smartphone will be available in Hong Kong, South Korea and 13 additional countries, including Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Greece, Guatemala, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Portugal, and Romania. Pre-orders for those locations (save for Albania, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malta, Montenegro and Panama) will begin on the 4th. The handset is currently available in 29 countries — that number will increase to more than 70 by year’s end. Press info can be found after the break.
