Step aside, VAIO P, Fujitsu’s managed to take too-small screens on netbooks to new heights with the UH900, and the addition of a touchscreen makes you seem seriously early 2009. So, how does it perform? UMPC Fever is feeling it, with a CrystalMark score helped along by the UH900’s SSD, even if done few favors by the 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor. Unfortunately, while the touchscreen display does offer multitouch gestures, they seem rather laggy — as demonstrated in the video after the break. And thus we witness the odd disconnect of “laptops” and “phones,” as the screen size and processor speed borders on a merging point and the interaction styles (or at least the execution on those styles) almost couldn’t be further apart.

“The Atom is dead, long live the Atom.” The long awaited upgrade of Intel’s netbook platform is gathering pace, and latest to join the ranks is Samsung with its 3G and GPS-equipped N150. Powered by Qualcomm’s Gobi 2000 chip, the connectivity on this lite laptop will not go lacking, though Sammy disappoints with the rest of its specs. According to a very early listing on Neobits, the 10.1-inch screen sticks with a now barely acceptable 1,024 x 600 resolution, while RAM and storage are limited to the eons old 1GB and 160GB, respectively. Windows 7 Starter Edition, a 4,400mAh battery, and the typical 3 USB ports, 802.11b/g/n wireless and a 3-in-1 card reader fill out the rest of the unremarkable data sheet. Still, the presently listed price is under $374, which is right on par with the N140, meaning complaints are allowed (but should be kept to a low hush of disgruntlement, ya dig?).

On the heels of getting our hands on the budget, Pine Trail-packing Wind U135, MSI gave us a heads up that at CES it’ll be releasing the totally redesigned 10-inch Wind U160. The pictures make it look ever so trim and classy, though we can’t help but notice the chassis’ uncanny resemblance to the Toshiba Mini NB205. Under the lid it appears to have a chiclet keyboard and a touchpad that’s only differentiated from the palmrest by a grid of raised dots (eh hem, ASUS). Inside it’s got that 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor we’ve been hearing so much about and most likely the array of standard netbook specs. MSI claims the battery will last for more than 10 hours on a charge, and pricing for the U160 will start at around $350. We’ll be bringing you more information and hands-on impressions out in Vegas, but in the meantime feast your eyes on the glamor shots below.

You didn’t expect it to rain Pine Trail netbooks without MSI dropping a new Wind, did you? Come January the $330 10-inch Wind U135 will replace the older Diamondville U100 with its new 1.66GHz Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Windows 7 Starter and a six-cell battery. But the U135 gets updated with more than just new netbook specs — the Taiwanese netbook pioneer has slightly tweaked the chassis with a new keyboard, touchpad and lid design. Looks like Dell’s trying to jump out ahead of the CES Atom N450 netbook rush by announcing a new version of the Inspiron Mini 10 a couple weeks before we all head to Vegas — and we can’t say we blame them, since there’s a lot here to like. The newly streamlined case can accommodate a six-cell battery good for nine and half hours of use without the usual netbook bulge, and inside that next-gen Atom can be paired with an optional Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator for HD video playback. Also on the options list: four case colors, Bluetooth, WWAN, GPS, a TV tuner, and a 1366 x 768 display, in case you actually want to see some of those accelerated video pixels. Prices will start at $299 when this guy hits in early January, but we’ll see how much all these options add to the final pricetag. Press release after the break.
