Portable Sound Labs Launches the X

iMainGoX.jpg

Speaker company Portable Sound Laboratories has just announced the iMainGo X, a compact case that promises high-end sound quality combined with ultra-portability. It works with the iPhone, iPod, Zune, or nearly any other MP3 player. Since it uses a standard 3.5mm audio jack, you can even use it with a laptop, electric guitar, or more. Its daisy-chain feature lets you connect more iMainGo Xs for a bigger sound.

The idea behind the speaker was to create a compact product with great sound and design at an affordable price. It includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and ports for two headphones and a microphone. I like the styling. Is it a cassette tape, a freaky little skull, or both? Get one for $69.95.

Edifier Soundbar USB Adds Style and Sound to your Laptop

Edifier Soundbar USBIf you’re looking for a way to give your laptop a sound boost but maintain a clean and elegant workspace that’s not cluttered with large wired speakers, the Edifier Soundbar USB may be the perfect audio accessory for you. The brushed aluminum bar is just over 10-inches wide with a glowing blue mute switch and power button on the side. The Soundbar is entirely USB-powered, so the only cable you’ll need with the device is a USB cable, which is included in the package, and as long as it’s connected to your Mac or PC you can use it as external speakers.

The Soundbar USB also has an AUX-in port that allows you to connect other devices like a mobile phone or digital music player, but you still have to have it connected to a USB port on a desktop or laptop for power in order for it to work. Edifier promises the Soundbar has enough juice to sound out entire rooms and comes in a portable package with a carry pouch that can slip into a laptop bag or backpack. The Edifier Soundbar USB is available now from online retailers for $49 list.

Pixel Qi turns into ideal 10-inch companion display with wired and Wireless USB, 1.5W power needs

Pixel Qi has today announced it’s taking the next step in its quest for global domination of sunlight-readable displays. Partnering up with German outfit Display Solution AG, the company is about to start selling its 10-inch, 1024 x 600 panels as standalone units, which you’ll be able to hook up to your computer or smartphone via USB, either the wired or Wireless version. Power consumption maxes out a measly 1.5W with the LED backlight turned on, meaning that one USB tether will be sufficient to feed it both power and data. We don’t know exactly how long we’ve waited for a secondary screen with this sort of flexibility, but it’s sure been a while. Look for Display Solution to start selling these hotcakes next month.

Shocker! Jorno folding Bluetooth keyboard available for pre-order

Of all the Bluetooth keyboards that have been released for portable devices lately, this is certainly one of them. Cervantes Mobile’s Jorno doesn’t look particularly comfortable, but it does fold up into a tiny square, it’s got a cradle that will fit most handsets, and it’s compatible your favorite Bluetooth HID profile-enabled devices. It will be out early next year for $99, although if you pre-order it now you can get it for a smooth $79 — which is probably the upper limits of what we’d pay for it. That is, if we were going on a modern day On The Road-type odyssey with nothing but a backpack and our dreams, and an iPad to keep a journal of our thoughts. Which we aren’t. PR after the break.

VIZIO’s 7-inch portable VMB070 Razor LED TV now available

The first of the portable edge lit LED TVs from VIZIO that were announced at CES is now shipping, as the 7-inch VMB070 is available at the company’s online store and Wal-mart stores everywhere. In case you’ve forgotten, it’s still a 1-inch thick, 1 pound 800×480 resolution LCD screen with edge LED lighting that can tune into 1080i or 720p ATSC broadcasts through a flip up antenna, packs a battery with a claimed 3.5 hours of life and display video from a composite input or pictures via USB. You’ll have to wait for the step-up 9- and 10-inch models if features like ATSC M/H tuning for viewing on the go or HDMI inputs are a necessity but with its $159 MSRP some cuts may be excusable to avoid running down your cellphone / laptop battery watching Slingboxed broadcasts at the tailgate party or out in the backyard on Saturdays and Sundays.

Vive la Vinyl, Vive la (Crosley) Revolution!

crosley-revolution.jpeg
Don’t toss that collection of vinyl records just yet. Crosley has an interesting take on the venerable record player with its Crosley Revolution CR6002A.

Resembling nothing like the giant turntables of old, the Revolution CR6002A is portable, has a built-in handle, and runs on six AA batteries. It has both 33 1/3 and 45 rpm speeds, an integrated FM transmitter, and integrated full-range dynamic stereo speakers. There’s also a headphone jack on the turntable.

The record dangles over the edges and is a little exposed, so you would need to be careful when playing, but the portable Revolution makes vinyl convenient.

With the FM transmitter, you can listen to the vinyl over anything with a FM receiver, whether that’s your stereo with the receiver, or a portable mp3 player. Again, convenient.

When connected to a computer via USB, you can turn those records in to digital tracks using the accompanying software.

Currently available for $149.99 online or at select retailers like Hammacher Schlemmer, Brookstone and JC Penney. If looking for something other than the basic black, Urban Outfitters sells custom Revolutions in red, ivory, and mint.

Imation Apollo D300 pairs 2TB of storage with USB 3.0 connection for $220

Decisions, decisions. The $200 price range tends to be reserved for happy shiny smartphones in our minds nowadays, but spare a thought for the demure hard drive as well. Imation‘s just announced an overhaul of its Apollo line of external plate spinners, with the headliner being the Expert D300 unit you see above. Accompanied by its very own detachable stand and backup software, this $220 USB 3.0 drive promises oodles of room and a decent turn of speed as well. Set for an October launch, it’ll find lower price points for archivists with needs closer to 500GB or 1TB in size, and there’s also a selection of classically minded USB 2.0 HDDs for the more frugal among you — learn more about them in the full press release after the break.

Nokias Mobile TV Adapter Doesnt Need a Data Plan

nokiamobiletv-sg.jpg
Here’s a reason for not swapping that Nokia phone in favor of a smartphone: Nokia announced the Nokia Mobile TV Headset, DVB-H, a TV receiver add-on that turns the phone into a portable TV.

Cost, or the lack of, is the most exciting aspect of the mobile TV adapter. Since you don’t need a data plan or a Wi-Fi network, there are no hidden charges for watching mobile content, unlike other streaming offerings. It also doesn’t matter if you have a limited data plan, because the adapter doesn’t use it.

Nokia warns that DVB-H service will not be available in all areas.

The headset has media playback controls and works just for making and receiving calls. The TV receiver is built-in and also works with the Mobile TV app on Nokia’s Ovi Store.

The headset will work with Nokia N8 and other Sympian 3 devices. Expected to launch in the next few months, it will retail for €40, or approximately $50 dollars.

Logitech takes its wireless Z515 and tethered Z305 speakers on the road

Sure, that laptop you’re staring out might have been purchased by your company’s IT department, but who hasn’t snuck on a film or game to fill the desperate void between PowerPoint presentations and time sheets? Problem is, those teeny tiny tinny laptop speakers aren’t exactly immersive. That’s where Logitech comes in with its new Laptop Speaker Z305 ($99.99, pictured above). A compact USB speaker that hangs off the open display to deliver 360-degree audio that will “fill the room,” according to Logitech — no additional software required. Otherwise, why not untether with Logitech’s Wireless Speaker Z515 (pictured after the break) when it arrives for $59.99. The Z515 offers a range of about 50 feet (15 meters) over a 2.4GHz USB dongle with up to 10 hours of life from its rechargeable battery. Both will be available for purchase in the US and Europe begining this month. See the pitch in the video after the break.

Samsung Unveils Super-Fast USB 3.0 Portable USB Drives

Samsung - S2 Portable 3.0You won’t find USB 3.0 on consumer desktops and laptops just yet, but that’s not keeping a number of portable hard drive manufacturers from releasing portable drives that make use of the new high-speed spec. Samsung is the latest company to join the crowd, and recently announced the new Samsung S2 Portable 3.0, their first portable hard drive to support USB 3.0. The drive also features a 7,200 RPM hard drive inside the enclosure, which means that short of enterprise-level hard drives, the S2 Portable 3.0 is probably one of the fastest external hard drives on the market, not just internally, but in terms of data transfer.

The Samsung S2 Portable 3.0 will be available in both 320GB and 640GB versions, and while Samsung doesn’t explicitly mention that it will be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices, it’s difficult to imagine that it won’t be. Samsung is making the drive available in the European Union this month, with North American customers following soon after.
