Optoma delivers 1080p ThemeScene HD82 projector to the UK

‘Tis a shame Optoma‘s reserving its latest 1080p beamer for the overseas crowd, but we’ll set aside our envy for a tick and just join in the across-the-pond-excitement. The ThemeScene HD82 sports a native 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, 1,300 nits of brightness, a 20,000:1 maximum contrast ratio and a DLP engine. Britons will also enjoy a 1.5x zoom, PureMotion / PureShift technologies, twin HDMI ports and a DVI socket to boot. Of course, enjoying that £2,999 ($4,382) price tag may not be as easy, but it’s still comparatively affordable in the grand scheme of things.

Projectiondesign debuts F32 1080p projector for “harsh environments”

We’re not quite sure what the folks at Projectiondesign consider to be a “harsh environment,” but it seems a pretty safe bet that their new F32 projector should at least be able to hold up in even the dustiest conference rooms, and deliver a full 1080p image to boot. If that’s a bit more than you need, the company has also just rolled out similar SXGA+ or WUXGA models, which boast 4100 or 3800 ANSI lumens, a 7,500:1 contrast ratio, and the usual full complement of ports, including dual HDMI inputs. Just don’t plan on lugging any of ’em around too far, as they each weigh in at close to 30 pounds. Pricing, as you may have guessed, appears to be on a need to know basis, though all three are apparently shipping now.

Video: Samsung Show W7900 projector phone gets specced, demoed

Samsung’s Show (formally known as the W7900) made a brief but resonating appearance at CES this year, and now, the lucky kids over at PopSci have managed to acquire a few more juicy specifications as well as a few moments of coveted hands-on time. The forthcoming projector phone, which is apt to land in South Korea first, includes a 3.2-inch OLED display (400 x 240 resolution), quad-band GSM connectivity, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, a five megapixel camera, support for video calling and the obligatory ten lumen projector that shoots 480 x 320 images out at up to 50 inches. The entire device measures in at 4.4- x 2.2- x 0.7-inches, and it actually doesn’t emit a half bad image when the lights are all down. Have a look for yourself just after the break.

Adapt MPJ-101 pico projector: tiny, cute, available

Go ahead, you can admit it: you’re really, really into picos — the best of us are. Adapt’s update to its pocket projector, the MPJ-101 — which is nearly identical to the previous model — shouldn’t fill us with joy, but it does. This little (125 x 55 x 23 mm) monster’s got 1GB of built in memory, an SD slot, and two .5 watt speakers. It projects up to 10 lumens of brightness at a resolution of 640×480 from around 6 to 50 feet. All this excitement doesn’t come cheap, though — expect to shell out about a thousand bucks for this teeny bundle of joy. Oh boy.

Sanyo’s PLC-XF71 projector packs 10,000 lumens for extreme brightness

While not high definition like the company’s most recent projectors, Sanyo’s PLC-XF71 manages to compensate with 10,000 lumens for some serious brightness. By comparison, the recently-unveiled PDG-DHT100JL sports 6,500 lumens and its sub-$2000 PLV-1080HD just 1,200. Beyond that, it’s got a 1024 x 768 picture and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. If you don’t mind trading resolution for intense luminance, look for it to show up this month for a papered Abe Lincoln under $17,000.

Aiptek PocketCinema V10 hands-on

This is it! We just received video of the only pico projector endorsed by Russell Crowe (if by “endorsed” you mean “absolutely not endorsed,” and by “Russell Crowe” you mean “the poor target of our Photoshoppery“). For a handheld VGA projector, the thing seems to handle itself pretty well. It’s small and simple to use, but then again it doesn’t really seem all that bright (something you might notice if you ever need it to, we don’t know, “project” something). This bad boy has 1GB internal memory, an SD slot, and miniUSB, which should handle most of your I/O needs. Be sure to check out the explosive videos — generously provided by Engadget Spanish — after the break.

Samsung Show finally makes projector phones sexy

Is 2009 finally the year of the projector phone? Eh, not likely — but there are finally a few models filtering into retail after years of talk, prototypes, and empty promises, including the Logic Bolt from independent manufacturer Logic Wireless and this puppy from Sammy. We’re told that the aptly-named Show is inbound for release in South Korea before the end of the month, it runs Samsung’s ubiquitous TouchWiz platform, and it packs DLP-based pico projector tech from TI, but that’s about all we (and Samsung’s US reps) seem to know about it. The projector can be used to view media stored in phone memory, pull up mobile TV via Korea’s T-DMB airwaves, or simply project light, a function luddites may know better as a “flashlight.” Most importantly, it actually isn’t half-bad looking — a symptom of a major manufacturer getting involved and throwing some won and industrial design staff at the thing, we bet.

Optoma reveals HD8200 and HD808 HD projectors

Until now, Optoma has pretty much been a no show at CES this year, but our mums always said that late was better than never. At any rate, the company is finally coming clean with two new high-def projectors: the HD8200 and HD808. Both beamers are powered by Pixelworks’ PW9800 co-processor with DNX MotionEngine, and of course, they sport a native 1080p resolution. The HD8200 ($4,999.99) is rated at 1,300 ANSI lumens / 20,000:1 contrast ratio while the HD808 ($3,499) scales back to 1,200 lumens / 15,000:1 CR. Consumers are entirely more likely to find the latter in stores, as the former is reportedly tailored to custom channels. For more details on each, give the links below a look.

SIM2 aims high with $58,000 Grand Cinema HT5000E DLP projector

SIM2 never fails to stun, and it’s proving yet again that it couldn’t care less about the global economic situation (or that it just aims at a class of people that are simply unaffected) with the Grand Cinema HT5000E. Said device was actually outed yesterday courtesy of an HDGiants pair-up, but today we’re being gifted with the official details. The three-chip DLP beamer includes a trio of 0.95-inch DarkChip4 DMDs, a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, six lens options, Ethernet jack for remote control and world-class color uniformity / edge-to-edge focus capabilities. Yeah, it’ll cost you more than most vehicles and even some diminutive homes at $57,995, but at least the white glove delivery service is included. A true bargain, let us tell you. Full release is after the break.

Canon unveils REALiS SX800 LCoS projector with 3,000 lumens

Canon‘s REALiS SX800 LCoS projector may not have the highest resolution in the world — it’s stuck at SXGA+ (1,400 x 1,050), for those wondering — but it sure is bright. Designed to light up board and / or living rooms with ambient light seeping in, the projector features a 3,000 lumens display and a contrast ratio of 900:1. It’s also housing next-generation 0.55-inch LCoS reflective LCD panels, a Canon 1.5x zoom, Auto Input Signal, 2:3 pull down and an 11-pound chassis. If that’s right down your alley, it’ll be available this month for $2,499.
