Hasta La Gadget!

Ever since it first peeked its sizable Super AMOLED face out from behind the curtain, anticipation for the Galaxy S II has been tough to tamp down. As the months have worn on though, Americans have simply been left wondering when (if ever) they’d be able to start leaving fingerprints all over one of their own. Well, we finally have an answer… kinda. President of Samsung’s mobile division, Shin Jong-kyun, told reporters on Wednesday, “we expect to release the Galaxy S II in the US market sometime in August.” So there you go — on some undetermined date, for some undetermined price, with some undetermined carrier, you’ll finally be able to get your greasy little paws on a Galaxy S II next month. It’s not much, but hey, it’s better than nothing.

When Motorola took the wraps off it’s rugged Titanium in May it left out a pair of pretty crucial details — namely price and release date. Thankfully, our friends over at Sprintfeed scored some details and it looks like the “Sturdy and QWERTY” Android handset will be landing on July 24th for $150. Otherwise there’s nothing new to report, you’re still getting the same military-grade resistance to the elements, support for Nextel Direct Connect, and five megapixel camera. Sadly, it’s also still shipping with Eclair leaving this Moto a solid two generations behind the current crop of Google phones. Still, if you need a smartphone with a physical keyboard that can withstand some serious abuse there aren’t too many other options out there.

HP’s TouchPad may not have quite lived up to our lofty expectations, but that’s not stopping the world’s first webOS tablet from going global. UK availability for HP’s 9.7-incher has been revealed as coming on July 15th with all the usual suspects taking part: Carphone Warehouse, PC World, Argos, Amazon, and, of course, HP.com. Pricing is set at £399 ($660) for the 16GB WiFi-only model or £479 ($790) for the 32GB-carrying variant. HP has also managed to get a few content partners on board for this launch, with “exciting, exclusive” material coming in from The Guardian, LastFM, Warner Bros, and Sky News. Well, what do we have here? From the looks of it, we’ve got ourselves launch dates for a slate of new Lenovo tablets. A little note from the outfit’s Affiliate Program, pictured above, shows the Android-packing IdeaPad K1 will, unsurprisingly, debut in late June or July, with a June 28th arrival being pegged for its rumored ThinkPad tablet. What’s more, we could see a refresh of the company’s IdeaCentre nettop coming our way August 30th. Looks like this summer could be a hot one for Lenovo, but we’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out.

Update: We just heard from the folks at Lenovo, and they’re saying the dates here are “no longer valid.” Unfortunately, that sounds like an unwanted delay to us, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1, the benchmark Android tablet device at this moment in time, is coming to the UK on August 4th. Samsung’s just made the launch date official, announcing that both WiFi and 3G variants will be hitting “a range” of British stores almost exactly six weeks from now. Alas, no pricing details have been revealed yet, but you can look forward to an exceedingly slim (8.6mm / 0.33-inch) slate sweetened with Honeycomb (3.1) software and dual-core Tegra 2 performance. The 3G variant will also include a 21Mbps-capable HSPA+ radio, which would be called 4G if it were in the hands of overzealous American carriers. The TouchWiz UI will be large and in charge on the British Tab 10.1, augmented with Samsung’s Social, Readers, and Music Hubs, as well as access to NVIDIA’s Tegra Zone. We’re also reminded about the neglected Galaxy Tab 8.9 in the press release, which should be arriving in the UK “later in the year.”
