Huawei’s enigmatic Android phone bound for T-Mobile in Q3?

Take this with some skepticism, but according to tmonews.com a “trusted source” has revealed an Android-based Huawei phone is currently being tested and heading to T-Mobile in Q3, a timeframe we heard about at MWC. Specs reportedly include a 5 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi, and Cupcake, naturally. No word on UMA, but the site claims that a certain Mr. Blurrycam is dropping off photos and more dtails in next few weeks, so we’ll keep our eyes on that.

HTC Magic (Sapphire) with T-Mobile USA logo hits the FCC

It’s been just over a month since HTC’s Magic / Sapphire first made its way through the FCC, although without any indication its destiny lied with T-Mobile. Well, it’s back for Round Two, and this time the images clearly have the company’s logo emblazoned at the top, just as it was at MWC when Google was showcasing its offline Gmail, and 7.2Mbps HSDPA. Yep, it’s clearly heading to you-know-who’s 3G network. No “G2” in sight, so for now we’ll have to wait to see which of the three likely names — or something else entirely — T-Mo decides to run with.

The T-Mobile Dance

I never post video on this site, but this T-Mobile ad is an exception. Check it out.

Cupcake Android update coming to G1 in April

Well, after weeks of speculations and false alarms, it looks like T-Mobile’s officially saying the “Cupcake” Android update will hit the G1 sometime next month. That’s at least the word according to the T-Mo spokeperson Pocket-lint got hold of — who went out of his way to disclaim any connection with the upcoming launch of the HTC Magic. In any event, we’re hoping all this bake time has fixed some of those bugs and lag problems, but we’ll see in a few weeks.

Forknife the G1-controlled robot is back, and he’s brought friends

The gang over at Surveyor Robotics have introduced SRV-1 Console, an open source Android app for operating robots based on the company’s camera board and firmware. Using the G1’s WiFi capabilities, the operator can access a live video feed from the robot and control the device using the handset’s touchscreen and accelerometer. So far the app’s been demonstrated with several robots, including the SRV-1 Blackfin, the YARB Robotic Blimp, and last but not least, our old friend Forknife. We have all the robots in action via Youtube video after the break.

T-Mobile Adds Color Options for 5310 XpressMusic

Nokia_5310_Hue.jpg

T-Mobile has added two new colors—White Aqua and White Silver—for the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic, according to Engadget Mobile. The handset is still available in red as well, and it’s still available for free with a two-year contract from T-Mobile USA.

The only thing left for Nokia to do is figure out how to get more U.S. carriers to pick up their smartphones, and not just low-end feature phones like the 5310. In essence, that means T-Mobile and AT&T, since Nokia still doesn’t build CDMA-compatible handsets that would work on Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, or Virgin Mobile.

Sony’s VAIO P going for €599.95 with T-Mobile Germany data contract

Thinking of picking up a VAIO P for your left rear pocket? Do you call Deutschland home? In need a mobile data plan? If you’ve somehow managed to answer yes (or “ja,” as it were) to all three of those inquiries, T-Mobile Germany has a deal for you. Sony’s WWAN-packin’ VAIO P — which has seen itself subsidized in America on Verizon Wireless — is currently being offered for just €599.95 (VAT included) with a web’n’walk Connect L data plan. For those too uninspired to search, that’s a €400 discount from what it costs to buy outright over there. Tempting, nein?

T-Mobile Takes $50 Unlimited Voice Plan Nationwide

T-Mobile_Shadow_2009_3.jpg

A few weeks ago, T-Mobile began testing a $50 unlimited voice plan in San Francisco. Now Engadget is reporting that T-Mobile is already finished with its little test and has now taken the plan nationwide.

It’s a good value. It even one-ups the carrier’s compelling UMA-based unlimited Wi-Fi calling options, since the new plan also works over T-Mobile’s cellular network and not just in hotspots.

As before, the plan is only available to customers who had been with the company at least 22 months, and who have been in good standing the entire time, according to the report.

T-Mobile brings $50 unlimited voice plan to rest of America

Well, that “trial” didn’t last long at all, now did it? Just days after teeing up a $50 unlimited voice plan in the great city of San Francisco, T-Mobile USA has reportedly taken said plan nationwide. Users are already buzzing about the widespread availability, though it should be noted that the same “loyalty requirements” from the San Fran pilot are still in effect for the rest of the nation. In other words, you have to have been a T-Mob subscriber for at least 22 months and have been in good standing the whole time. Oh, and being cute probably helps.

Bonus cellphone found in bag of Aldi potato chips, charger unfortunately absent

When we were kids, a box of cereal wasn’t worth eating if there wasn’t a free toy buried in the bottom somewhere. Emma Schweiger of Janesville Township, Wisconsin has sadly forgotten those days, reacting in horror not joy when she found an unexpected free prize in her bag of potato chips purchased at Aldi. While rummaging through the greasy fragments she uncovered an aged Nokia handset, bereft of charge, covered in cholesterol, and sporting a T-Mobile SIM card. No address book has yet been retrieved to identify the phone’s owner, but the discolored disc on the back where an adhesive belt clip had been applied is a pretty strong clue to how it came to its carb-laden cocoon. As for Schweiger, she’s pledged to always pour her bag of chips into a bowl prior to eating — which happens to also be the easiest way to get the toy out of a particularly unappealing box of cereal.
