Acer Aspire One D150 unboxed, looking cool

The Acer Aspire One D150 (which just hit our very own FCC) has hit the streets in several places, so the unboxing photos were just a matter of time. There’s nothing totally groundbreaking here — but the 10.1-incher (unboxed in white) is looking fairly solid. This model, the D150-0B, boasts a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a 1024 x 600 display, and a 3-cell battery. Future iterations including the D150-1B and the D150-2B will include 6-cell battery and Intel Atom 1.66GHz N280 processor options. Check out a few more photos here after the break, and hit the read link for the full, lovely set.

DISH Network’s DTVPal DVR unboxed and previewed

For the longest while, we couldn’t figure out who let the standalone HD DVR die. To this day, we’re still scrambling to find an answer, but thankfully DISH Network has stepped in to revive the niche while the search continues. The outfit’s DTVPal DVR has been circulating for almost a century now (okay, just a year and change, but there’s hardly a difference in the grand scheme of things), and Mr. Dave Zatz has done us the honors of unboxing one and setting it up. The unit actually doubles as a DTV converter box and an HD DVR, and Zatz found setup to be almost too painless. Everything seemed to be humming along just fine at last check, so feel free and have a look at the gallery in the read link below before pulling the trigger.

VAIO P spotted and unboxed in the American wild

VAIO P spotted and unboxed in the American wild

Sure, we were certainly rocking Sony’s littlest VAIO in various locations across these United States, but the things have been taking their time in finding their way to the hands of our fellow gadget lovers. After finally starting shipping on Wednesday they’re now starting to show up on the doorsteps of lucky folks around the country, with AdamW at HappyAssassin the first to give one the domestic unboxing treatment — also performing a bonus little comparo with his friendly neighborhood Aspire One. Adam indicates that installing Linux is next on his to-do list, which sounds quite tasty to us.

Kodak’s Theatre HD Player with gyro-based Pointer Remote unboxed and reviewed

We’ve been playing around with Kodak’s new Theatre HD Player for the past few days, and our feelings are mixed. Kodak is doing a lot of interesting and innovative things here, especially with the gyroscopic Pointer Remote it has included for interfacing with the box, but we’re not convinced this thing is polished or helpful enough to justify the $299 asking price. Check out our full impressions after the break.

Video: OQO model 2+ MID gets unboxed, previewed

We were pretty stoked about the OQO model 2+ when we got to spend a few quality minutes with it at CES this year, and apparently actually getting one delivered to your house is even more spectacular. The cool cats over at MID Moves were able to score one of the Gobi / OLED-equipped handhelds for review, and rather than making us wait until all opinions were formed, they’ve hosted up a nice preview video along with a few high quality unboxing shots. Initial impressions seem pretty positive, with the SSD helping things along quite significantly. Granted, we would’ve preferred a WiFi-on battery life of more than two hours, but what fun would it be to not have a single gripe to harp on? More pictorial delight is in the read link, and the vid’s just past the break.

Sony’s VAIO P gets unpocketed, unboxed

We’ve seen the VAIO P‘s sexy little case, but we’ve yet to witness the corrugated box in which it resides. Until now, obviously. As the rear pocket stuffing theme trucks on without any signs of stopping, the lucky souls over at AkihabaraNews managed to get ahold of a fully packaged model in order to completely unwrap it on camera. The full gallery’s down there in the read link — don’t pretend like you’re not heading over to check it out.

Softbank’s iPhone 1seg tuner / battery charger gets unboxed

If you’re American, don’t even pretend you care about this. ‘Cause you don’t care about mobile TV at all, and we’ve got the facts to prove it. For those parked in Japan, though, you have every right to get jazzed. Softbank’s 1seg TV tuner / battery charger has finally been loosed on the carrier’s home turf, and the lucky cats over at DVICE were able to acquire one and give it a whirl. Setup was said to be a breeze, the 1seg pickup was crystal clear and the device itself was satisfactorily lightweight. As for downsides, the entire app is in Japanese, and even with the extra juice, watching TV on the go zapped the life out in around an hour with brightness maxed. Check the full writeup and unboxing gallery in the read link below.

Motorola Aura gets unboxed

We’ve seen it up close and even knocked-off already, but when it comes to a $2,000 phone, we’re guessing that a proper unboxing is as high on your list of must-sees as it is on ours. Thankfully, the folks at T3 have come through and done the honors and, as far as unboxings go, this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. As you can see above, the phone comes packed in a rather stylish and sturdy box that likely won’t be seeing too many trash cans any time soon and, of course, the phone itself is looking as envy-inducing as ever. Hit up the link below for plenty more shots, and keep an eye on T3 for a complete review that’s promised to be coming soon.

iriver’s $40 T5 USB stick-style audio player unboxed and reviewed

iriver’s T5 was launched and forgotten in one fell swoop, but with a starting price of under $40 for the 2GB edition, it’s at least worth a look, right? Critics over at Pocketables were able to secure one of the USB stick-styled devices for review, and they even bothered to host up a plethora of unboxing / hands-on shots for those keenly interested. Size wise, the unit is just marginally smaller than your average USB WWAN modem, and while the minuscule OLED display wasn’t much to look at, it sure trumped those screen-less rivals. Under pressure, the stick delivered “surprisingly good sound quality,” and while the device overall didn’t bring anything fantastically fresh to the table, the inbuilt USB jack, integrated display and excellent audio capabilities made it a pretty good option for the gym. ‘Course, there are formidable alternatives out there (Sansa Clip, anyone?), so we’d recommend giving the linked review a closer look before breaking out the plastic.
