Hasta La Gadget!

Maybe it’s all the talk of the ITG xpPhone that’s made ViewSonic’s VPC08 come out of hiding, but the phone/MID contraption is finally making a video appearance and revealing why it’s so damn thick. Unlike the xpPhone the VPC08 is actually an ordinary feature phone with a 2-inch display stuck on top of an Atom Z500-powered 4.3-inch MID. Uh, innovative? Not so much since it doesn’t appear that the two work in conjunction, but we do know that the phone supports EV-DO, and that the MID portion packs 512MB RAM, an 8GB SSD with Windows XP, and WiFi. For those that are at all interested in holding this mega-device up to an ear, it looks like it will be sold only in China for a whopping 4800 Yuan ($705). No word if that price includes pants with extra-large pockets. We’ll be waiting for the Moorestown-powered LG GW990 to get Atom in a phone, but we do urge you to check out this beast of a “phone” in action in the video after the break.

You wouldn’t generally think of a smaller outfit such as ViewSonic having a major presence here at CES, but sure enough, the company has hit the ground blazing in Las Vegas. Kicking things off is the new ViewLED TV lineup, which consists of four LED-backlit sets ranging from 19- ($299) to 42-inches ($1,199) in size. Moving from HDTVs to PC panels, we’ve got ten new Eco-View monitors spanning the entire gamut of sizes and features. The company is also letting loose its VFP858 connected Bluetooth smart frame, which packs an 8-inch panel, an integrated microphone, stereo speakers and support for handsfree dialing… all from a digiframe. For media junkies on the run, the new line of MovieBooks (including the 5-inch VPD550T and 3-inch VPD313T) both sport touch-sensitive displays and sub-$150 price tags. Finally, we’ve got no fewer than nine new laptop and desktop models, including the 13.3-inch VNB131 ViewBook Pro, 18.5-inch VPC190 all-in-one and the VOT125 nettop. Obviously we’ve got far too many pricing, availability and hardware details to cover in this space, but all the information you could ever want on the new kit is hosted up after the break.

If you were waiting for ViewSonic to finally put out a netbook, the wait is over. If you weren’t, we don’t blame you — we weren’t either. At any rate, the VNB102 ViewBook that we saw manhandled way back in September has finally got a street date: December 18, to be exact. Things are pretty much as you were expecting: 10-inch display, Windows 7, Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB memory, 160GB hard drive, a six cell battery, and 802.11b/g WiFi. ViewSonic’s last round of LCDs were nothing short of unforgettable, but these two might actually grab (and retain) your attention if you consider yourself a “professional.” The 23-inch VP2365wb and 26-inch VP2655wb both fall into the firm’s VP series of 1080p pro LCDs, and the both of ’em are blessed with IPS panels and 4-port USB hubs. You’ll also find pivoting stands on the pair, and while the 23-incher gets a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, the big boy steps it up to 1,920 x 1,200 and offers a 118 percent NTSC wide color gamut for those discerning retinas of yours. Interested? The duo is available now if you look in the right places, and while the VP2365wb will cost you just $399, the larger sibling will ding you for $1,299.

Although we saw glimpses of ViewSonic’s VPD400 and VPD500 media players back in July, the no-longer-just-a-monitor company is officially pushing ’em out the door now. NetbookNews was kind enough to do a quick unboxing and hands-on for us, and although they both seem nice enough, we can’t help but wonder who’s in the market for a chunky dedicated PMP like these anymore — and hey, seeing as ViewSonic’s totally ripped Sony’s XMB interface, you might as well save a few more bucks and get the real thing plus games by picking up a PSP here, you know?
