Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus hitting Costco on December 15?

That elusive Samsung Galaxy Nexus is still heading to Verizon, believe it or not, and we may actually be nearing the end of our frustrating quest to get our hands on one. While we’re still waiting for an official announcement from Big Red itself, the inaugural Ice Cream Sandwich device has shown up in Costco’s internal pricing guides with a starting date of December 15th — a mere two days away. It’s priced at $290 with a two-year commitment, which is exactly the same as what we’d originally heard a month ago. Keep in mind that since Costco is an authorized retailer for Verizon, its release date may vary from the official website and corporate-owned stores; that said, we’re sure hoping we can waltz into a store somewhere — anywhere — and pick one up this Thursday.

Samsung Illusion, Casio G’zOne Ravine 2 and BlackBerry Curve 9370 to hit Verizon this month?

Don’t rub your eyes. That above pic is no mirage. It’s a leaked rebate form heralding the Big Red arrival of an actual Illusion — a 3G Samsung-made one, that is. The form, sent to us by an eagle-eyed tipster, confirms that mysterious Gingerbread phone’s imminent November launch, while also outing two other equally un-hyped devices: the BlackBerry Curve 9370 and Casio G’zOne Ravine 2. No official release date could be gleaned from the info at hand, but with a redemption period ranging from the 1st of this month to the 28th, we’re fairly certain this triumvirate of mid-range phones will be making a retail debut soon. So, if you need to replace your last battle-weary, ruggedized smartphone or have a hankering for portrait QWERTYs, this fair fall month’s mobile refreshes could be just the ticket.

HTC Rezound ad pays Verizon stores an early visit, soonish launch likely

The above image isn’t a leak — it’s a dye-in-the-wool, true-blue LTE poster that a few Verizon stores have preemptively hung up. We’re pretty sure these adverts aren’t supposed to be displayed for our eyes to see since they feature the HTC Rezound, a forthcoming 4G device that hasn’t even been announced yet. Oops. Additionally, the handset — featured front and center on the ad — shows off a pair of Beats headphones dangling out of its 3.5mm jack. Are there any naysayers that still think the Rezound won’t get its official outing at HTC’s event this week? Count us amongst the believers.

Poll: What’s broken (or working) for you in iOS 5?

If you haven’t updated to iOS 5 by now, let’s face it: you never will. It’s cool. We get it. Some of us are still using Netscape, too. For the rest of the iOS universe, though, iOS 5 has almost certainly been installed, and now that you’ve had a few weeks to tinker with it, we’re interested in seeing what quirks are being found. We’ve received a number of reports surrounding call connection issues (on both Verizon Wireless and AT&T), “invalid SIM” warnings, a bug that shows an inbox as being full (when it clearly isn’t) and iCloud refusing to load email altogether. Mobile Miscellany: week of October 24, 2011

This week was packed with news on the mobile front, so it was easy to miss a few stories here and there. Here’s some of the other stuff that happened in the wide world of wireless for the week of October 24, 2011:

  • Fan of white phones? Here ya go: the BlackBerry Bold 9900, Curve 9360 and Torch 9810 can be pre-ordered on Phones4U. If white doesn’t do it for you, the Curve 9300 will be available in pink. [Stuff]
  • HTC has announced its partnership with Dropbox, which means you can get 5GB of available storage on any of the company’s Android devices. [Twitter]
  • A few customers on Verizon’s family plans have noticed a peculiar addition to the company’s #DATA service; when the text showing the data usage arrives, it now mentions “shared,” which may be an indication that Big Red’s on its way to offering shared data plans in the near future. [Droid-Life]
  • Rumors have flown for some time about LG’s attempt at reviving the Prada series by introducing the K2 (aka the P940), and now we’re finally starting to see images of the Android device leak out. Apparently, it’ll be less than 9mm thin, offer an 8MP camera, 1.3MP front-facing cam, 21Mbps HSPA+ and have a 4.3-inch display with 1,000 nits of brightness. [PhoneArena via UnwiredView]
  • Research in Motion announced BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365, which extends Microsoft Exchange Online to the BlackBerry lineup. It’s geared toward midsized businesses and enterprises. Head to the source for the details. [Microsoft-News]

Motorola Droid 4 exposed to our wandering eyes, comes with LTE in tow?

We were just a tad disappointed when the Motorola Droid 3 came out without Verizon’s signature LTE logo on the back, but a mere three months later the QWERTY slider is back with a new model that should be packing 4G. The images above and below, procured by Droid-Life, show what looks to be a super-slim device with the same slight curves on the corner as the RAZR, and tapered back akin to the Droid Bionic. And, interestingly enough, it appears to be nearly complete, judging by the non-Mr. Blurrycam quality of the images and the tutorial stickers on the screen. Not only does the device appear to offer LTE, it also adds Webtop and should be compatible with the LapDock 100 and 500. Rounding out the tentative specs are a 4-inch display, spacious five-row keyboard (with number row included), 1080p HD video capture, front-facing camera and a non-removable battery. It also comes with Android 2.3.5 installed instead of Ice Cream Sandwich, something which we hope to see remedied soon after launch. Looks like we’re finally close to having a high-end QWERTY option on Verizon’s 4G lineup.

Verizon ‘on track’ in Q3, revenues up 5.4 percent to $27.9 billion

VZW’s upward mobility shows no signs of slowing, as the carrier just reported total Q3 revenues of $27.9 billion — up 5.4 percent on last year. As usual, much of the growth comes from pulling in new smartphone customers, who were among 882,000 new retail postpaid connections and who helped to bring Big Red’s average revenue per user (ARPU) up to $54.89, which is 2.3 percent higher than the same quarter last year. We’ll have to wait for the Q4 results to see any impact from the iPhone 4S or the new Droid RAZR, but, in the meantime, there are plenty of double-digits in Verizon’s data revenue figures: it made $22.22 from each postpaid retail customer for data usage alone, which adds up to a 15.7 percent leap year-on-year. IRL: Playseat Evolution, HTC Thunderbolt and a five-year-old iMac

Welcome to IRL, an ongoing feature where we talk about the gadgets, apps and toys we’re using in real life and take a second look at products that already got the formal review treatment.

Quick poll for the Android loyalists out there: anyone getting the Droid RAZR? Opting for the Galaxy Nexus instead? There’s still one or two of us here at Engadget clinging onto our OG Droids and Nexus Ones, and after a week of high-profile handset announcements, we might be hemming and hawing for another month yet. We’ll throw Michael in that boat, even though he took a chance on the Thunderbolt earlier this year and will be stuck with its battery-draining ways for at least another Revolution of the Earth. As for the rest of us not due for an upgrade, Joe is still justifying his $350 gaming toy while Billy is bringing up Team Luddite on his five-year-old iMac. You know the drill by now: join us past the break where we’ll talk about the trusty (and embarrassingly old) gear we’re using in real life.

Samsung: the LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus will be ‘a little’ thicker

We got it straight from the horse’s mouth here at Samsung and Google’s Galaxy Nexus launch event that the future LTE edition of the Galaxy Nexus will indeed be thicker than the HSPA+ model showcased today (and above). How much thicker? “A little,” according to a company representative, but he wouldn’t go so far as to talk millimeters. When asked if the additional size was there to hold the LTE package or just a larger battery, he also failed to elaborate. We’d be shocked if the LTE variant doesn’t pack at least a bit more juice — we’ve covered the damage that LTE does to a battery in great detail here — but frankly, we’d rather have something a wee bit thicker than a phone that dies after four hours of use.

Motorola Droid RAZR hits FCC with Verizon LTE, global GSM radio

Surprisingly, Motorola seems to have been taken a page out of Apple’s book, as the Droid RAZR was curiously approved by the FCC almost immediately after it was announced. And there’s some good stuff to behold in here, too; in addition to the usual Verizon-friendly LTE Band 13 radio with CDMA 800 / 1900 support, we also found instances of GSM and WCDMA. In fact, we discovered that the 850 / 1900 bands were tested — even though they’re locked from being used by US operators. And that’s not all, folks: the docs specifically state “this device supports voice call functionality over GSM and WCDMA on non-US cellular networks.” We don’t want to say for sure that this means the RAZR will be the first LTE device on Verizon to officially support global GSM roaming, as it could simply refer to the device’s Canadian availability or being sold overseas, but it’s a strong indication towards the possibility.
