It looks like Hulu’s trying yet another ill-fated tactic to keep its content restricted to traditional browsers and off things like Boxee — TunerFreeMCE’s Martin Millmore says Hulu’s HTML is now encrypted at the source and then decrypted using Javascript on the client. That means plugins that parse the Hulu site for links to content won’t work anymore, but man, what a complicated monkey dance for basically no gain — it’s already been broken, and we’re wondering what Hulu’s going to do when Boxee or another company stops playing around and simply builds a full-on WebKit or Gecko browser with a tweaked ID string into their app. Keep driving towards that cliff, guys — millions of users who want Hulu on their TVs and will jump through hoops to get it don’t represent any kind of market opportunity or anything.
Update: The Boxee folks just pinged us to say what several commenters have also noted: the current Mac alpha now features an XUL-based Hulu component that works no differently than a browser, and the Windows and Linux versions will be updated shortly. We’ll see how Hulu responds — for now we’re sticking by our prediction that this all ends with someone building a full-on browser into one of these apps.

A new iPod means a slew of new accessories to support it. DLO just announced the Action Jacket sports case for the third-generation Shuffle, an armband with a Shuffle-holding pocket.
This looks like a great option for runners. Even though the Shuffle is super-small and includes a clip, I wouldn’t want to depend on that clip while working out. I’d be too afraid the Shuffle would jostle loose and go flying. The DLO armband gives it a secure spot and keeps the wire out of my way. The Action Jacket is made of neoprene, which resists moisture, and includes a front panel which you can use to hold your headphones when not in use.
If you’re interested, you can pick one up for $19.99 on April 5 at select Best Buy stores. Other retailers will follow in the weeks after that.

Though other carriers may be consolidating, a new wireless provider made its official debut at CTIA. Zer01 Mobile (yes, that actually is a zero in the name) promises a $69.95-per-month plan for unlimited voice and data service without a contract.
The service, which will launch July 1, will be …

It looks like the HTC Rhodium (that’s the Touch Pro2’s codename, if you’re keeping track) is inching ever closer to its launch on T-Mobile as the Wing II — the slider QWERTY handset just arrived at the FCC. The listing is awfully meager at the moment, but it looks like the model number will be the RHOD100, for those of you prone to prowling government databases late at night. Of course, there’s no word on release date or anything like that, but we’re willing to wait for this sexy piece loaded up with Windows Mobile 6.5. Engineers and RF fetishists, your SAR reports await at the read link.

Overclocking Solar Pooh
Posted in: Today's ChiliAt Gearlog, we strive to stay on the cutting edge of technology. And sometimes that means going outside the normal channels to go find it.
This week we ventured into Chinatown, a community known for being on the front line in various forms of research, from genetic to historical meteorology. We found a cute little solar-powered “Winnie the Pooh” bobblehead.
A cursory search of the Web found no such product, so I think we really scored here: It looks like we’ve stumbled upon a prototype toy that we are not supposed to have.
After a quick consult with our legal department, we’ve decided to ignore the almost certain legal action that will result and proceed with this exclusive hands-on preview of the new solar-powered bobblehead bear.
Results of our overclocking after the jump!
Russ Frushtick of UGO joins The 404 again today for the fourth, maybe fifth, time? Who knows? Anyway, it’s a video game heavy show with a lot of firsthand commentary from Mr. Frushtick on OnLive’s new video game platform and Jack Black’s new video game. You play as Jack Black, walk around for a few minutes before you have to sit down to rest, and then rock out old school.

We’ve also got some firsthand info on the new Batman game with Mark Hamill, yo! Apparently, it’s da bomb digity. Also, the PS2 is $99, but who really gives a crap? We want a $99 PS3. Who can really afford to drop 400 bones on a game console without any games? Come on, in this economy?!
Yeah, yeah, we know it’s April Fools’ Day, but instead of playing along, we decide to just chill with all the gags and jokes. Doesn’t mean that the rest of CNET and the Web are doing the same. Google’s got a new feature that’s suspiciously like SkyNet, and Wilson has a surprise for all those Loaded viewers out there. Plus, one of the greatest voicemails in 404 history, so stick around.
