Clean Up Your Code With Code Melt

Web site programming can get frustrating at times and I notice that I start to write sloppy code when that happens. There are tools out there that will clean up your code (especially for those people creating a site in Microsoft Word…what a nightmare!) but many of them you have to fork out some money for. Code Melt is here to save the day because you won’t have to fork out a single penny and best of all is that it is completely Web based so there is no installation required.

So what’s the downside? You know there has to be one. A subscription to the service is $22 per month but you can use it for free as long as you don’t mind a 30-second delay before showing you the results. If you have hundreds or thousands of files you need to do then you might find it useful to subscribe but it lacks PHP support so I don’t have much that it can do.

It does work with HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript. Putting it through a couple test runs gave some pretty good results at things that need to be cleaned up. After all of your code has been analyzed, beaten up, and drug through the mud it will pump out the cleaned up file for you to use. One of the coolest things that it does is show you a whole list of everything it fixed.

For $39.50, you can buy a candle shaped like a Polaroid camera. Why would anyone do that, you ask? Well, the instant Polaroid cameras and film as we know them have been discontinued, so it feels right that this product will eventually burn out …

Sony’s Andrew House hints at more social networking for PS3

PlayStation Home not “social” enough for you? Fret not PS3 users (or soon-to-be PS3 users), ’cause Sony Computer Entertainment Europe head Andrew House has recently dropped a not so subtle hint that some more traditional social network features are on their way to the console. While he obviously didn’t get too specific, House did tell the Financial Times that Sony has plans for more social networking features, and apparently wouldn’t rule out a partnership with “popular sites such as Facebook,” much like Microsoft has already announced for the Xbox 360. In PS3 price-cut news, House also noted that Sony is indeed aware that “consumers are watching their euros and pounds more carefully than before,” but added that “it would not be fair to say this is a reaction to current market conditions.”

We recently got the Mimo UM-720S in. If you remember, we reviewed the UM-740 a few months back.

This new model is smaller and less expensive, but it’s missing a couple of features included in the 740, like the Webcam. Look …

Motorola holding Android event on September 10, awesome new handsets in store?

Could this be it? Motorola’s heading out to San Francisco to host an Android-centric event early next month. We’re not being told what’s on the docket just yet, but if we had to guess, it’s probably some combination of the Morrison and Sholes that have leaked over the past few weeks. The invitation says “Save The Date,” but you know what we’re thinking: this is really “Save The Company.” Make or break, Moto. Let’s do this.

HALO Brings Good Looks to Bluetooth

JabraHalo.jpgAre you ready to change your impression of Bluetooth headsets? Forget the blinking ear appendage that you already know, Jabra has just announced the HALO, a sleek foldable stereo headset that you’ll want to take everywhere.

The HALO has a 30-foot range and works with stereo Bluetooth devices, including the BlackBerry, iPhone, iPod Touch, many mobile phones, laptops, and more. You can pair it with two devices, and there’s a corded option, should you prefer. It includes a microphone for making calls, and offers a big 8 hours or talk or music time or 13 days of standby time.

To give your music a little something extra, the HALO includes Zirene Power Bass for a richer listening experience. Songs fade out when you get an incoming call. I like that it folds away and even comes with a carrying case.

Look to Jabra’s site for more info for pick up the HALO at Best Buy stores starting this week. It lists for $129.

Givenchy and Justin Timberlake unveil “Play” cologne in MP3 player-esque bottle

Far be it from us to pretend that we know the thought process behind this one. Givenchy’s latest fragrance for men, Play, was created in cahoots with Justin Timberlake, and comes in a PMP-style package. Is it a cute play on words, or a reference to the fact that Timberlake used to make music for a living? Hey — as long as we’re getting our Amyris Wood and Pink Pepper undertones, we really don’t give a damn. Can’t live without it? It’s on sale now for somewhere between $55 and $75.

Count Calories and Charge Phone with Stix

stix.jpg

Iconoculture: Calling all calorie counters: Graphic designer Cyrene Quiamco has introduced Stix, a concept phone she claims will help burn calories while charging. The phone — which attaches to the wrist, purse or belt — only recharges when users jog, jump, shake, stroll or perform other modes of physical activity. The phone uses GPS technology to track physical activity levels and comes with a built-in pedometer and heart rate monitor to keep track of calls — uh, vitals.
