Mesofluidics is the study of applying pea-size …

Use the Zune HD with a Mac

Who says you can’t use the Zune HD with a Mac? Well, I did, for one…but contrary to popular belief I sometimes actually enjoy admitting when I’m wrong. As a Mac user with a penchant for non-iPod MP3 players, I often feel left out in the cold, …

Blaze Nintendo DSi game selector improves cart management, uglies up your handheld

Have a habit of losing those DSi carts on the bus, in between the couch cushions or in other darker, more taboo locales? Fret not, as the carefree crew over at Blaze has your best interests in mind. Hailed as the first 3-in-1 game selector for Nintendo‘s DSi, this mildly unsightly attachment simply plugs into your game port and then houses a trio of your favorite titles. Once you’ve got it mounted, just flip the switch to change the title, though we’d suggest powering your DSi down before doing so. It’s available now to solve a problem you probably only think you have for £14.99 ($24).

Sony Introduces its Thinnest Walkman

sony-walkman

The spotlight may be on Microsoft’s newly released Zune media player but that didn’t deter Sony launching its thinnest Walkman players .

Sony introduced the NW-A840, a extremely thin device that has a 2.8-inch OLED screen, FM radio, noise canceling and TV-out features. The Walkmans will be released in Japan at the end of next month and are expected to be available in the U.S. later.

With the new super-slim media players, Sony hopes to sustain some of the momentum that it has seen in the last few weeks for its media players. Apple’s iPods dominate the U.S. market with more than 80 percent market share but internationally, they face a tougher battle.

Earlier this month, a study by  Japanese electronics research company BCN showed  that Sony Walkman outsold the iPod in Japan for the first time in more than four years. Sony’s market share for digital music players in Japan stood at about 43 percent, for the week ending August 30, compared to Apple’s 42.1 percent.

With Apple refreshing its iPods line, it was clear that Sony would launch new products.

The latest Sony Walkman is 7.2mm thick, compared to iPod Classic’s 10.5 mm thickness and Zune HD’s 8.9 mm thickness. It will be available in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions.  The company hasn’t disclosed the pricing for the products.

Sony claims the new Walkman will have a battery life of about 29 hours for music playback and 9 hours for video. There are a few features missing in the device. The lack of Wi-Fi connectivity and a touchscreen puts it behind the Zune HD.  But the Walkman’s real competition comes from iPods and it’s Apple that Sony hopes to beat back with its latest products.

Super Talent’s 2TB RAIDDrive shipping next month to the rich and silly

Remember that 2TB PCIe RAIDDrive we peeked earlier this year? Yeah, that was no April Fool’s joke. Super Talent’s answer to OCZ Technology’s Z-Drive is on track to ship next month, shortly after it makes a quick stop by IDF next week. The device slots into one’s PCIe bus and utilizes a RAID architecture specifically tailored to work with NAND flash memory. In fact, the outfit has actually boosted the transfer speeds from the 1.3GBps estimate to a 1.4GBps promise. The aluminum enclosure houses four discrete SATA SSDs, with the RAIDDrive GS being the model that tops out at 2TB. For those able to deal with “just” 1TB, there’s the RAIDDrive ES and RAIDDrive WS, both of which are detailed further in the read link. No exact pricing has been nailed down yet for the flagship unit, but considering that the 1TB RAIDDrive GS is pegged at $4,999 for OEMs, we’ll let your imagination do the rest.

Even those with everything probably wish their high-end earbuds had a bit more personality, and if you’re reclined in your Victorian-era sofa in a robe befitting one Chuck Bass nodding in agreement, we’d encourage you to have a gander at Sleek Audio‘s latest. Essentially, these are the same Kleer-enabled CT6 ‘buds that the affluent among us have grown to love, but with an obvious twist. Thanks to the inclusion of phosphorescent particles within the shell and top plate, the $374.99 CT6 Aura can actually glow in a variety of colors, giving DJs around the globe one more reason to ditch the cans and go small. Currently, the CT6 Aura can be ordered in green, blue, orange, yellow and white, with pricing set at $25 more than the standard CT6. Gnarly, right?
