Samsung Fascinate shows up in Verizon warehouse manifest, destined for September launch?

While Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile customers have been enjoying their epic, vibrant and captivating Galaxy S variants for weeks, the only thing fascinating about Verizon’s take on the Samsung smartphone is how long it’s taken to arrive. Come September, however, that’s all liable to change, as a very familiar-looking SCH-I500 has just allegedly appeared in Verizon warehouse databases. Coupled with the fact that the MTV Music Video Awards (airing on September 12th) are now officially sponsored by “Samsung Fascinate a Galaxy S phone” and Verizon Wireless itself, we’re thinking it’s a safe bet that early September will find the 4-inch Super AMOLED handset on store shelves.

Give Your iPhone 4 the Solar Life Grip

iphone4Mooncharge.jpg

Love your iPhone 4? Love the Earth? Now you don’t have to choose! This is Frostfire’s new Mooncharge Hybrid Solar Battery Case for the iPhone 4. It combines your appreciation of Apple’s latest handset with you desire to not see the earth explode, or anything.

The charger serves as a hard case (and will probably nip some of those death grip reception problems in the bud when it’s docked) and charges your iPhone 4 via solar power or USB. When plugged in, it’ll give your handset an extra five hours of talk time, 27 hours of music, and 10 hours of video playback.

The device essentially works as reserve power, for when you’re running out of battery power. It runs $70. And with all of that added talk time, you can call everyone you know to let them know just how green you are.

In-betweeners: Rounding up ultraportable 11.6-inch laptops

What happens when you take a standard 10-inch Netbook and make it a little bit bigger, a little more powerful, and a little more expensive? The recent explosion of 11-inch systems shows us, whether one calls them premium Netbooks or ultraportables.

LG putting 9.7-inch color, 19-inch flexible e-paper displays into production

LG’s shown off plenty of display prototypes that may or may not ever wind up in actual products, but it looks like two of them are about to get real — a recent SEC filing has revealed that LG is expecting to put both a 9.7-inch color e-paper display and a 19-inch flexible e-paper display into mass production by the end of the year. Details beyond that are expectedly light — including any word on what type of products they’ll be used in — but the 19-inch display is apparently the same one we first saw back in January (pictured above). That could conceivably be used for a newspaper-sized device, or possibly things like digital signage, which might be a tad more likely given the constraints in tacking a touchscreen layer and other components on top of the display.

Netflix Now Streams to iPhone and iTouch for Some Reason

Netflix today announced the release of a new Netflix app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The new app would allow for streaming content over a wi-fi or 3G connection straight onto your very tiny screen.

The concept has been around for a while, going back to the wrist-watch TVs of the ’80s, but the experience of watching anything on a screen that small is never fully satisfying. At best, it can help make those long plane, train, and automobile rides more enjoyable. Sorta anyway.

If not used for streaming, the new Netflix app can also be used as a tidy queue management system complete with a search function (which, for some reason, Wii’s Netflix channel is sadly missing). Up until now, the queue-management app void was being filled by the likes of Phone Flicks, which I suppose will go hang out with the Dodo now.

The move into small screens does makes some branding sense for Netflix, which has faced increasing competition of late including a newly-announced streaming service from HBO, Verizon’s live TV app for the iPad, and who knows what exactly Apple will be throwing into the mix with their upcoming press conference.

The battle for your eyeballs is coming to your phone. (Imagine reading that sentence somewhere even ten years ago.)

JooJoo software update adds local video playback and password storage, still a few months too late

It’s baaaack. Okay, it never really went anywhere, but thanks to a very nice tipster we learned that Fusion Garage released a new software update for the JooJoo last night. The new 0.2.4 firmware, as you can see from the shot above, adds a few previously-lacking features such as the ability to store passwords, calibrate the screen, and basic USB support. Obviously, we couldn’t help but whip out our JooJoo review unit and try it all out. The download didn’t take more than three minutes and, lo’ and behold, we were able to log into Twitter, close the browser, and then launch it again without having to log back in! However, more impressive is that its sole USB port is now functioning. We put a 1080p trailer of Scott Pilgrim on a flash drive, plugged it into the side of the tablet, and miraculously the NVIDIA Ion chip was finally put to work — it handled the clip with ease and with absolutely zero stuttering. Don’t believe us? Video after the break, so there.

[Thanks, Mark]

Add Style to your Desktop with the Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 Series

Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 - Pirouette
More manufacturers are beginning to understand that just because you aren’t willing to drop $50 on a mouse doesn’t mean that you don’t a mouse that looks good. To that end, Microsoft recently unveiled the Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 Series, a new line of portable wireless mice that come with one of three printed designs on top that you can choose from. You have the option of the pink and red “Pirouette” circular design, the grey and black “Downtown” grid-like pattern, and the dark blue and black “Crania” pattern of skulls across the top of the mouse.

All of the mice feature Microsoft’s BlueTrack technology, which means they can track on almost any surface that’s not clear or mirrored. Each one also comes with Microsoft’s tiny 2.4GHz wireless Nano Transceiver, which can be stashed in the underside of the mouse when not in use. All three designs will be available in September from retailers on and off-line for $39.95 retail.
