HTC Mozart slips out on official Orange UK website, shows us how to replace its SIM and battery

This is so bad, it’s hilarious. As if the HTC Mozart needed any further confirmation of its existence and imminent arrival to British shores, Orange’s official web portal has decided to instruct us on how to replace the internal bits of this unannounced Windows Phone 7 handset. That’s right, even though HTC and Microsoft are acting all cloak and dagger about it, the freaking phone’s name and likeness are hanging out on Orange’s official website. Have we said the word “official” enough times already? Skip past the break for a couple more image grabs which are sure to disappear just as soon as Orange finally figures out what day of the month this is.

Marvell shows OLPC some serious love with a $5.6 million grant for XO-3 tablet

Marvell and One Laptop Per Child’s close partnership has been no secret, but according to Xconomy, Marvell’s about to put a whole lot more green into the XO. The semiconductor company is forking over $5.6 million to fund the creation of the next gen XO-3 tablet, and according to OLPC founder and former Engadget Show guest Nicholas Negroponte, it’s still slated for a 2012 release. Obviously, the tablet will be based on Marvell’s SoC — though, there’s no telling which version of Armada will be up for grabs by then. Additionally, Marvell and OLPC will be showing another tablet at CES, but this one is apparently for children of the developed world and won’t carry OLPC’s brand. Our guess is that it’ll be something closer to the Android-running Moby than to the plastic, bendable, Pixel Qi-equipped XO-3. It’s all sounding rather confusing to us, but hey, at least the kids won’t have a shortage of tablets to choose from.

Switched On: Getting real about a phone that’s not (part 2)

Each week Ross Rubin contributes Switched On, a column about consumer technology.

Last week’s Switched On looked at some of the reasons that a Verizon iPhone might not bring seismic shifts to the cell phone market or the balance of power between the two largest carriers in the U.S., focusing more on the AT&T incentive. This column discusses the carrier’s current CDMA network and its multi-year transition to LTE, which could lower some obstacles to a Verizon iPhone.

While reports have asserted that a Verizon iPhone may ship as early as January and that a CDMA version of the phone will go into production in September, there are reasons to doubt that Apple will create a CDMA iPhone for Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless is a large carrier, but it’s subscriber base is relatively small compared to the one that is served by having a single GSM device that Apple can sell around the globe. That massive audience creates certain scale advantages for Apple.

3,000,000 iPhones to Ship for June 29th Launch

This article was written on June 08, 2007 by CyberNet.

Apple is either really confident in their new iPhone, or they’d rather just be safe and have plenty to go around should this take-off. Apple is said to be shipping 3,000,000 iPhones, according to Business Week, for the June 29th launch. Given that, if you plan on going out to buy one, don’t worry, there should be one available.

Analysts have said that Apple would be able to sell about 3 million iPhones for all of 2007, and yet they’re shipping them all in one day. This would mean that Apple wouldn’t have to worry about shipping anymore iPhones until 2008 when they’re expected to sell another 10 to 12 million of them.

The tone in the media today is a bit critical of Apple because they are shipping so many right off the bat, however, you know they would have been criticized even more if there weren’t enough to go around come June 29th.

Jabra and Zipcar add Bluetooth Speakerphones to Cars

Jabra CruiserNew laws requiring drivers to use hands-free devices when they drive and prohibiting them from using cell phones without them have gone into effect in a number of states recently, including Massachusetts and Maryland. In response, Zipcar and Jabra have teamed up to install Jabra Cruiser in-car Bluetooth speakerphones in a number of lucky Zipcar member vehicles in the Boston area through the month of October. The promotion is designed to make sure all drivers are aware of the new laws and make sure their vehicles are outfitted appropriately, regardless of whether they’re Zipcar members.

The Jabra Cruiser retails for $99 and is available from AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Best Buy stores as well as online, and features a lightweight speaker that can be clipped to the driver’s flip-down sun-shade and paired with a mobile phone using the buttons on the bottom of the device. The Cruiser also features noise canceling microphones to minimize feedback and noise while on a call. If you’re not in Boston but your state has a new law requiring you only use hands-free devices while on the phone, the Jabra Cruiser may be a good option for you.

TRON: Legacy Motorcycle Suits are Dorky but Detailed

TRON: Legacy - Motorcycle SuitsIf you show up at a party on your motorcycle, someone will think you’re pretty cool. If you show up at a party on your motorcycle wearing one of these TRON: Legacy replica motorcycle suits, someone will think you’re kind of lame. Whether someone will think you’re a dork but also cool depends entirely on the friends you hang out with. Regardless, these road-worthy protective suits are designed after the ones that Sam Flynn (played by Garrett Hedlund) and Quorra (played by Olivia Wilde) wear in the upcoming movie.

The motorcycle suits are full-body, made of leather, and have protective armor along the joints, back, arms, and legs, like any other full-body suit. Instead of glowing with light, the patterns on the suit are made with reflective material that shines under light. If you’re a serious fan of the movie franchise and have to have one, you’d better hurry: only 1000 of the Sam Flynn suits will be made and they retail for $995 each. The Quorra suits are even rarer; only 500 will be made and they’ll retail for $899 list price.
