Got a workplace fancy enough to warrant $500 video conferencing VoIP phones? Then Aliph’s got a Bluetooth headset you might like to own. From what we can tell from the press release, the Jawbone Icon for Cisco doesn’t have anything new in terms of audio quality or styling — the old adage of don’t fix what ain’t broke — but instead adds upgradable firmware and allegedly seamless switching between a Cisco Unified IP Phone (or that Cius tablet) and your personal cell. The idea is that you could walk around all day untethered, and never need to bend over to pick up calls from either phone. The headset’s already shipping in the US and Canada with top-tier Cisco phones. Hear that? That’s the sound of the last vestiges of humanity fading away as the Bluetooth cyborgs take over. Toshiba Regza GL1 wants you to put down the glasses, enjoy the 3D

Toshiba might have abandoned OLED, but that doesn’t mean the company is lacking ambition in the display-making field. Today it’s using CEATEC 2010, Japan’s biggest electronics expo, to make official that 21-inch glasses-free 3D prototype we’ve been hearing about. It’s lost an inch in becoming a retail product, with the 20GL1 offering a 20-inch diagonal, but the important multi-parallax picture transmission (employing a lenticular lens setup as used in Philips’ Dimenco) remains the same. The new set, accompanied by a smaller 12GL1 model, will be shipping in Japan this December, and if it really does what it promises, the rest of the world should not be far behind.

Update: Japan’s Impress Watch has more details for us, listing a 720p resolution for the 20-incher and a funky 466 x 350 on the 12-inch GL1. Prices are estimated at ¥240,000 ($2,885) and ¥120,000 ($1,443), respectively.

LG scraps plans for Froyo tablet, will wait for next Android version

If you needed any further proof that Android in its present form isn’t mature enough to perform tablet duties, here it is. Reuters is citing an unnamed LG official who has categorically written off the possibility of his company producing an Android 2.2 tablet. The LG informer has said that his company wants “the most suitable version [of Android] for our tablet and that is not Froyo 2.2.” This mirrors Motorola’s strategy of holding out until at least the next iteration of Google’s mobile OS before diving into the tablet pool. Still, it’ll be disappointing to those who took LG’s words at face value when it promised its tablet will be an iPad killer — that may still happen, mind you, just not this year.

WiMAX 2, the sequel to the movie most people haven’t watched, is back to tease and tantalize us courtesy of Samsung’s new CEATEC demo. Filling four separate HDTVs with streaming Full HD and 3D content, the Korean manufacturer of everything electronic is touting its latest advance in mobile broadband connectivity that takes the top speed up to 330Mbps. That may only be a third of the theoretical max capability of WiMAX 2, but you know, we’ll take it for now. The good news is that Samsung’s innovation brew extends only to the conduits between WiMAX devices, meaning that your current-gen transceiver will be able to join the accelerated party as and when Samsung’s ready to dish out the goods. With the 802.16m standard expected to be ratified by next month, Samsung projects its first commercial solutions will be landing in late 2011. Consider our calendars marked.

CBS’s The Big Bang Theory is the super popular sitcom about brilliant nerds. If you’ve been watching, you’ve undoubtedly seen Steve Wozniak’s recent guest spot — but there have been other notable presences, too. Willow Garage‘s Texai telepresence robot recently made an appearance as “Shel-bot” — a stand in for the character Sheldon. A user on Digg had posted a method to get music from MyBloop.com for free. MyBloop.com allows users to have unlimited storage for their files and music. This workaround to get music from their servers will not last long because it should be considered a bug, so take advantage of it while you can!

The original method that they posted made you sift through source code looking for filenames, but I have found an easier way to do it and have posted it here:

  1. Do a search for a file or MP3.
  2. A list of matching files will now be displayed. Once you have found a matching file right-click on the filename and copy the link ( the link will look like this: http://mybloop.com/?id=blollooopobopllpbboopooolb.mp3 ).
  3. Paste the link that you just copied into your address bar. DO NOT EXECUTE THE LINK YET.
  4. Before executing the link you need to change “?id=” to “view/” (your link should now look like this: http://mybloop.com/view/blollooopobopllpbboopooolb.mp3 ).
  5. Now execute the link and your browser should provide the “Save” dialog box to let you store the file on your computer.

This has worked for all links that I have tested so far. If you find that it does not work in some cases please let us know.

Looking a bit like a myTouch 3G Slide sans slide, the newly-announced myTouch — yes, just “myTouch” — is the latest addition to the consumer-centric side of T-Mobile’s Android lineup, featuring a 3.8-inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel primary camera with 720p capture, and a next-gen MSM8255 Snapdragon core running at 1GHz. Notice how we said “primary camera”? Yep, it’s true: the myTouch features a second, front-facing cam as well, becoming just the second phone from T-Mobile (and one of the first in the States, of course) to offer video calling. Looks like it’ll be supported over both WiFi and 3G using Qik and Yahoo Messenger, so you’ll be able to see the beautiful faces of your EVO-sporting friends from afar. Like the G2, it’s got full support for T-Mobile’s up-and-coming HSPA+ network along with 802.11n and Android 2.2 out of the box. We don’t have pricing or a launch date yet, but we’re told it’ll be available “in time for the holidays” in your choice of four scintillating colors: white, black, plum, and red.
