Nexus S has been rooted, let the madness commence!
Posted in: Android, gingerbread, Google, hack, hacking, nexus s, NexusS, Today's ChiliOur good friends at xda-developers haven’t kept us waiting long. Root access on the Nexus S has been achieved on the phone’s day of release, and full instructions for replicating it are available at the link below. The Nexus S is the proud and so far only carrier of Google’s latest and greatest Android software, so you’re basically getting unrestricted access to the very best Mountain View can offer. Hit that source link. Do it.
[Thanks, Brad]
Update: An Android team member has written in to remind us that the Nexus S, like the Nexus One before it, is designed with a user-unlockable bootloader out of the box — it’s not a magic trick. Good to know they’re keeping the tradition going.

Don’t you just hate getting (and giving) gifts that are super impersonal? There are only so many journals or bath soaps you can own in a lifetime. If you don’t want to get your friend or family member another gift card this year because you want to get them something that actually means something to them, then there are ways to personalize products that are normally impersonal — take a laptop bag, for instance. You could go to the Apple Store or Best Buy and buy a generic laptop case if you want, or, you could decide to use your own design to keep your loved-one’s computer safe, while still maintaining that person’s style.
caseable, a small Brooklyn-based startup company, allows you to design your own laptop cases (Timbuk2-style). caseable lets you design every part of your laptop sleeve: front, back, zipper, side, and handle. You can choose solid colors, pre-loaded photos and designs, or you can upload your own photos. Shown above, I uploaded my own photo from colorful Colorado, changed the zipper color to maroon, and the side to green, and the handle to orange, and voila! Plus, it was extremely easy to do.
You can choose from a multitude of sizes, including Mac 13-inch to Mac 17-inch, as well as Mac Air, and then from PC 10.1-inch to PC 17-inch (iPad is on its way). Then, in terms of width, you can choose from classic or slim. I tried building a few different laptop bags, and no matter what options I changed, it always came out to $69.90. Yes, this is a little expensive for a laptop bag, but how many laptop bags do you have with your cute dog’s face on it? Not many, I assume.
And, according to the site, caseable is now offering free shipping for a limited time.

There are a few sites around the web reporting that Best Buy is charging a “Halo Tax” by adding $3 to the price of most Xbox 360 accessories that you can buy. The fact of the matter is, Best Buy really isn’t upping their prices just for the launch of Halo 3 (and the people who will presumably run out to purchase an Xbox 360 console and accessories). In general, they often charge more than the suggested retail price for all gaming accessories to increase their profits.
So what’s the point of this article? Well, if you care about the $3 extra that you’ll spend on your accessories by purchasing at Best Buy, buy elsewhere. It’s as simple as that. Best Buy does offer price-matching, but many people don’t want to go through the hassle of actually doing it. Yeah, it does seem a little shady that Best Buy marks up their accessories, but considering that they don’t make much off of the sale of the consoles themselves, it’s not surprising.
The image below is just a comparison showing the price differences between Best Buy and Xbox.com:
With many online stores and retail locations that sell Xbox 360 accessories, there’s no reason you should need to spend the extra $3 when purchasing a console. While it doesn’t sound like much, it does add up and it’s money that could be spent on something else, like a game! Also keep in mind that Best Buy has higher prices for the other console accessories too.

Posted in: shipping, Today's Chili, windows phone 7, WindowsPhone7, Wp7Dell, you wouldn’t toy with our emotions again, would you? The latest official update from the boys and girls in Round Rock says that if you managed to get an order for a Venue Pro in by the 14th of this month, you’re golden for receiving it before Christmas — which is a considerably friendlier estimate than before, when some folks were being told January 6th. If you’ve ordered since the 14th, the company advises that you “use the Estimated Delivery Date to understand when you will receive it.” Meanwhile, if your Venue Pro has already managed to leave the warehouse, we recommend you use this opportunity to gloat in this post’s comments and as many forums as you possibly can.
