Doc Brown and Marty McFly return in a new episodic “Back to the Future” video game adventure beginning this month.

How to Print With Any Printer From iPad, iPhone
Posted in: Apple, ios, ipad, iPhone, Phones, Tablets and E-Readers, Today's ChiliApple’s latest mobile operating system update introduces a much-demanded feature: wireless printing. Problem is, it will only officially print from printers labeled “AirPrint-compatible,” which you likely don’t own. However, if you want to print from just about any printer, there’s a mod for that.
AirPrint Hacktivator offers a solution for Macs to set up wireless printing with iOS 4.2 with any printer shared on your network. Here’s how to set it up, with instructions courtesy of the hack’s maker, Netputing.
You will need:
- Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.5
- iTunes 10.1 (if you have neither, select the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen and click “Software Updates” to download the latest software.
- iOS 4.2.1 on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad (click “Check for Updates” in iTunes if you don’t have the latest iOS.)
- AirPrint Hacktivator [.zip]
Instructions:
1. Copy the AirPrint Hacktivator software into your Applications folder, then launch the app.
2. Toggle the switch to “ON.”
3. Enter your admin password.
4. A window will prompt you to add the printer you want to use with AirPrint.
5. The hack will launch the Print & Fax utility in your Settings folder, and you’ll be able to perform the add-printer task here.
6. And you should be ready to start printing!

App Review: Djay for iPad
Posted in: app, ios, ipad, review, Today's Chili
The iPad’s gorgeous 9.7-inch display has been attracting attention for its musical potential, and the Djay app from Algoriddim has definitely contributed to some of the noise. The guys who brought a consumer-friendly DJing app to the Mac have gone ahead and ported it over to Apple’s magical tablet, enabling pretty much anyone to get their shot on the decks. Does Djay for iPad live up to the hype? Read on past the break to find out.

Pentax K-r gets toy robot treatment
Posted in: Today's ChiliPentax makes another dSLR look like a cheap toy bot. Sigh.

Steve Guttenberg)
CNET Audiophiliac Steve Guttenberg joins us for another Friday episode of The 404, and there’s a lot to discuss, including a new trailer for the upcoming “Back to the Future” video game, Steve’s encounters with John Lennon, Andy Warhol, and Warren Beatty in the 1970s, how to convert stereo into 3D sound, and more earbud advice for Wilson’s freakishly small canals.
Steve tables his usual list of audio-related speaking points to tell us about his celebrity encounters while working at an East Village movie theater in the 1970s. He begins with a story about an awkward encounter with John Lennon and Yoko Ono just two years after the Beatles split, then tells us why he cussed out pop art star Andy Warhol, and finishes with a brutal rebuff from Warren Beatty! When’s the book coming out, Steve?
We’re going to record a special yuletide episode of The 404 entirely dedicated to the “Back to the Future” trilogy, but we can’t wait any longer to show you the debut trailer for the upcoming “Back to the Future” video game!
It’s a five-part game that picks up on the adventures of Marty and the Doc as voiced by Emmett Brown himself, Christopher Lloyd! The first part entitled It’s About Time comes out this month, part two called Get Tannen! comes out in February 2011, and parts three and four–Citizen Brown and Double Visions, will drop in March and April, and the finale Outatime doesn’t have a release date just yet. It’s only available for download on PC/Mac, iPad, and PSN–sorry XBox fans!
I swear that today is the last you’ll hear about Wilson’s tiny ear canals, because I think we found a solution. I reviewed the Monster Jamz headphones for CNET last month and ran into similar fit issues, so the company sent me its SuperTips Sample Pack of gel and foam tips that comes with a variety of alternate shapes and sizes. With Steve Guttenberg’s help, we’ll finally solve this mystery!
Just after the break, Steve tells us about a professor at Princeton University who converts stereo into 3D sound! Edgar Choueiri is the director of the Engineering Physics Program and a rocket scientist, but he also happens to be an audiophiliac and set up a special 3D sound room using two closely spaced speakers and his revolutionary 3D Pure Stereo system. Check out the Audiophiliac blog for more details.
One last thing before we take off: Gknee is one of the valiant chatroom moderators for CNET TV and keeps the #CNETFans channel SFW (with the help of DAKlives).
She’s celebrating a birthday on Monday, so happy birthday in advance Gknee, and a personal thanks from Jeff, Wilson, and me to all the CNETTV moderators who volunteer their work for the love of the game–we couldn’t do it without you guys!

Goldeneye 007 for Wii – Hands-On
Posted in: nintendo, Today's Chili, video games, wiiJames Bond is back, sort of. Goldeneye 007 for the Wii is the long-awaited remake/reimagining/re-release of the classic Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64, still recognized as one of the greatest multiplayer video games in history. If you’re expecting a nostalgic romp through the big set pieces of Goldeneye while engaging in a run-and-gun-and-sometimes-sneak gameplay worthy of James Bond, you’re going to like it. If you’re looking for a graphically improved remake of the original game that’s virtually identical to the Nintendo 64 release, however, you’re going to be disappointed.
Goldeneye 007 for the Wii is a completely different game from the N64Goldeneye. The story, the maps, the action, it all hits the same notes as the original game, but with some major structural differences. Besides a few landmarks, the maps have drastically changed. The characters have been reworked into virtually unrecognizable versions of their movie/N64 counterparts; Pierce Brosnan’s likeness has been replaced by Daniel Craig’s as James Bond, Valentin Zukovsky has morphed from a stocky, limping gangster into a night club-dwelling party animal, and Joe Don Baker’s Jack Wade (absent from the N64 game) has been replaced by a military contractor George W. Bush analog.
Sources: Google-branded Chrome OS netbook to launch on December 7th
Posted in: Chrome, chrome os, ChromeOs, exclusive, Google, intel atom, IntelAtom, laptop, launch, netbook, Today's ChiliThe headline pretty much reveals the brunt of it, but indeed, it looks like next week Google is going to start talking about how its Chrome operating system is coming along. Multiple sources have told us that Google will be holding some sort of event on Tuesday, December 7th — we’re not sure if it’ll be a live event, a webcast, or something else entirely — and that the shindig will see the launch of that Google-branded Chrome OS netbook we’ve been hearing about. Again, we’ve heard that the Atom-powered laptop isn’t going to be a mass market device — there will only be around 65,000 units available to Google’s closest “friends and family” — and that the Cloud-based OS is still very much in a beta, non-consumer-friendly state. It’s a bit odd that we still haven’t received an invite to this planned event since it’s purportedly days away, not to mention it conflicts with the All Things D: Dive Into Mobile Event, but at the time of publishing this post we had yet to hear back from Google’s PR team with an official comment.
Of course, this all lines up with TechCrunch‘s report that Google will be launching its Chrome Web / App Store very soon, as well as yesterday’s launch of Chrome 8, which supports those aforementioned Chrome apps. (Companies like TweetDeck have already started demoing their browser apps.) Don’t forget that those apps are going to be a large part of the OS, so it would make sense for Google to talk about ’em in tandem. The pieces sure do seem to be fitting together quite well, and while we still have lots of unanswered questions, we’re feeling confident that we’ll be getting some official answers on all this Chrome-ness very soon.
Update: AllThingsD has also heard a similar December 7th launch date of the Chrome Web Store. The evidence seems to be mounting here…
Update 2: Well, there you have it, Google just sent out invites for its December 7th Chrome event! We will be there!
Image note: As we said last time, that picture above is just our own mockup of what a Chromebook may look like. We even added a Chrome key!
