Though never confirmed by Verizon, it seems likely that battery life (or more accurately, the lack thereof) played a part in the series of delays preceding the Thunderbolt’s launch. To combat this problem, Big Red and HTC are offering a rather unsightly extended battery pack that nearly doubles the handset’s capacity from 1400mAh to 2750mAh. All that extra juice will certainly come in handy for folks leaning heavily on the phone’s LTE radio. However, the device costs $50 and adds an ounce of junk in the trunk — on a device that isn’t svelte to begin with — so why not buy another standard battery for ten bucks less instead? Then you can use the Qi-compatible back and induction charging station Verizon’s releasing in April. It’s just under $100 ($29 for the back and $69 for the pad) for those who want to cut the cord and don’t mind the expanded waistline we assume comes with the privilege.

Update: As pointed out by commenter Roberto V, the device is now already available for pre-order at both Best Buy and Future Shop. It runs the same $599.99 it does in the US, and is expected to ship on April 8th. Interestingly, Telus has also confirmed that it will be carrying the WiFi-only Xoom, but it’s made no mention of the 3G version.

Perfect for royal watchers and simpering simpletons: a common-as-muck phone boasting a ringtone of the Wedding March and a 1.5-inch screen for displaying royal-themed wallpaper.
See that greenish blue thing up there? That might look like this greenish blue thing over here that we reviewed a few weeks back, but actually they’re not the same. No, sir. This thing up there is the genuine, guaranteed, red-blooded American version, ready to tear a $250 hole in your gaming budget and make you go all googly-eyed for 3D. Naturally there isn’t an awful lot different here compared to the Japanese version we already looked at, but we have had the opportunity to spend a good bit more quality time with this one than with the other one. Plus, being able to read all the manuals doesn’t hurt.
What you’ll find below is a full review of the American console including more game impressions, more in depth battery life tests, a dazzling demo of the thing’s augmented reality gameplay, and some surpring performance results with good ‘ol DS carts. So, join us, if you would, for a rather more in depth exploration of this, the next dimension in handheld console gaming.

A shoulder-mounted unit with four acoustic sensors and a chest display that attaches to body armor can show the direction and distance of sniper fire in a fraction of a second.
LG’s Optimus 3D is already out Europe, and now the handset is about to hit our shores–albeit under a different name. The US edition is called LG Thrill 4G, but it’s exactly the same as the Optimus. It will be on the AT&T network, with no word on release date or price.
The LG Thrill has Android 2.2, touchscreen, 8GB of memory, SD card support (comes with one installed), and a 5MP 3D camera. It will support 3D without any glasses required, much like the Nintendo 3DS.

Ekocase’s bamboo- and faux-leather iPad case does its best to look like an oversized hipster notebook.
Sustainably-harvested bamboo frame? Check. “Animal-friendly faux-leather cover?” Check. Moleskine-like styling? Triple check.
The Ekocase2 is an iPad and iPad 2 case that should appeal to all of you vegetarian, Earth-loving, iPad-using hipsters.
Like many clever gadget accessories these days, it doesn’t exist yet except in prototype form, but if the creator, Ryan Frazier, gets enough pledges of support on his Kickstarter page, it’ll go into production. It’s got an interesting locking system that uses two bamboo pegs to hold the iPad in place, and will come in a variety of colors, just like your favorite paper notebooks.
Apart from the styling and the materials, I like that the elastic strap can also be used to hang the iPad on the back of a car’s headrest, turning it into a video display screen for entertaining the tykes in the back seat. You can’t do that with a Moleskine.
