Air Zealand Introduces “Cuddle Class” Seating

Cuddle Class - ER300

Flying in economy is bad enough on any flight, but imagine flying across the Pacific Ocean in what can be a 12 to 16 hour flight in cramped seats. Most long haul flights like that actually give you relatively comfortable seats even in the back, but Air Zealand has upped the ante with their newly introduced “cuddle class,” which allows you and a significant other to share a kind of couch/bed called the “Skycouch,” and a lie-flat style of seating that leaves room for two people to get close.
Many long flights offer bed-style seating, where there’s enough room for passengers to lay their seats out flat like a bed and get a good night’s sleep when they’re traveling from London to Tokyo, for example, but these are the first types of seating that allows you to cuddle up close to your significant other during the flight.
The new seating classes are available on Air Zealand’s new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, and will be available for passengers traveling from New Zealand to destinations like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, and Vancouver.

Jailbreakers Release iOS 4.3.1 Hack for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV

Hackers have cracked opened the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system to install unauthorized apps on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Available from the famous Dev-Team jailbreakers, the iOS 4.3.1 exploit will work on most iOS devices, excluding the Verizon iPhone and iPad 2. That includes:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4 (GSM/AT&T)
  • iPod Touch, third-generation and fourth-generation
  • iPad, first-generation
  • AppleTV, second-generation

Most customers primarily jailbreak their iOS devices to install Cydia, an underground app store serving unauthorized software. Especially popular in Cydia are utilities to enable free tethering to share an iOS device’s 3G internet connection with other devices. However, be forewarned that AT&T recently started cracking down on free tethering users, warning them that they will be charged if they don’t sign up for a legitimate tethering plan for at least $20 per month.

Owners of the Apple TV 2 will probably be jailbreaking their devices to install XBMC, an app that enables playback of almost every type of media file, including 1080p high-definition Blu-Ray rips. XBMC also enables customers to install add-ons for widgets, so it’s basically a mini app store for the Apple TV.

ASUS claims Transformer is better than a generic tablet, is probably right

ASUS, you naughty tablet maker, you. Not content with giving your Eee Pad Transformer its own sitcom, you’re now coming at the US with an aggressive price and some rather eye-catching promo material to boot. Reminding the world that most tablets come without a keyboard and highlighting your tailor-made solution is all well and good, but did you have to make your “generic” slate look so iPad-ish?

[Thanks, Rob]

Report: Samsung Nexus S 4G to Ship on April 6

The Sprint 4G version of Samsung’s Nexus S Android smartphone is scheduled to ship this week from Best Buy stores, according to a report published Monday morning.

Sightings of an April 6 shipping date have been spotted on Best Buy’s web site on Monday morning by Mobileburn. The ship date has since been changed back to “coming soon” on the retailer’s site, and a spokesperson for Sprint refused to confirm any release details other than “the spring.”

The 3G version of the Nexus S first debuted for T-Mobile’s network in December to much ado, as it featured Google’s most current version of Android at the time, 2.3 (Gingerbread). The hardware specs on both T-Mobile’s 3G and Sprint’s 4G versions are identical — 1-Ghz Hummingbird processor, 4-inch super AMOLED screen, 16 GB of flash memory and the heavily-hyped near field communication (NFC) capability — but of course, only the 4G version will have access to Sprint’s 4G network.

This version of the Nexus S will run on Sprint’s WiMax 4G network, and will cost $200 with a two-year contract and Sprint’s “Everything Data” subscription plan. The phone is currently available for pre-order at Best Buy stores only.

Viewsonic ViewBook 730, a 7-inch WiFi tablet, hits the FCC, gets the full teardown treatment

It isn’t the ViewPad 7 and it sure doesn’t look like this seven-inch wild child either, so what you’re looking at is another entry from Viewsonic, the e-reader focused ViewBook 730. It’s a seven-inch tablet with WiFi sporting HDMI output and microSD in. We know it’s running Android and, while the exact flavor remains to be seen, based on the lock screen image shown in the device’s manual it’s not looking like the ViewBook 730 will not follow the Iconia Tab A100 as one of the few seven-inchers to be rocking Honeycomb. Android 2.X looks to be on the docket for now. Additionally, that manual talks about copying APK files around to install apps, making Android Market inclusion sound a bit doubtful, too. All that should equate to a low-low price, but such expectations are never safe in this world.
