We live in a world where energy consumption continues to escalate while our natural resources diminish. In order to meet our current and future energy demands a switch needs to be made so as to rely more on renewable energy than non-renewable. The main forms of renewable energy we use today are solar, wind, and […]
SanDisk Ultra SSD heading to retailers, brings youthful exuberance to aging PCs
Posted in: now shipping, NowShipping, solid state drive, SolidStateDrive, SSD, Today's ChiliWho hasn’t needed to upgrade their personal workstation when running short on funds? We’ve definitely been there. As luck would have it, SanDisk offers all of us who are a bit strapped for cash an option for improving our aging PCs. The company announced today that its latest offerings, the Ultra SSDs, are heading out to retailers as we speak. Promising 280MB / sec reads coupled with 270MB / sec write speeds, the drives provide a welcome tune-up for, ahem, experienced machines. Random speeds on these disks clock in at up to 3Gb / sec with three sizes available: 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB, ranging from $130 to $450. So save up your extra lunch money, as this is certainly a nice way to breathe new life into your current set-up without going completely broke. Who knows, maybe you can use those dollars you’ll save on some of this. As for the full rundown, scope out the PR after the break.

Verizon’s Blackberry Bold 9930 unveiled early thanks to website blunder
Posted in: BlackBerry, leak, RIM, Today's Chili, verizon, videoOh boy, we don’t envy the Verizon web admin who made this particular mis-click. If you go to VZW’s sales page for the Blackberry 9650 and click on the “Explore Features” video, you get an unexpected treat: a walkthrough not of the 9650, but of the unreleased Bold 9930. The specs are familiar, like the 1.2GHz processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen and Blackberry 7 OS. But at least we now have it from the horse’s mouth that the new Bold Touch is indeed coming to Verizon. We’ve stuck our own rip of the video after the break, as the original will likely disappear any second — much like that poor web admin.
[Thanks everyone who sent this in]

Website Enables Japan to Thank the World
Posted in: Today's Chili, webToday we bring to you a new campaign website created by an anonymous non-profit organization to express Japan’s gratitude towards countries from all over the world which made donations and offered their support following the March 11 disaster. “Arigato From JP” is a web project that involves a collection of user generated 3-5 second “thank you” clips from people in Japan that are posted on the website’s homepage for entirely non-profit purposes.
Whats interesting is that the site contains a list of other countries and the forms of contribution (monetary donations, food, supplies, etc) they have generously made to support the Japan relief effort. With approximately 120 to choose from, users pick a country and the site teaches them how to say “Arigato,” or “thank you” in that country’s language. They then record their message of thanks via their smartphone or webcam and upload it onto the site.
As visitors are brought to the website, a random collection of thank you clips are played along with an introduction of the campaign and its purpose. By clicking on the tiles on the homepage, people from around the globe can view these messages, which are refreshed every couple of seconds.
We see a tremendous amount of effort put into reconstructing Japan and lifting the spirits of those who have lost so much, and its heart-warming to see that even at times like these, there’s a way for people to say thank you in a small way.

Onkyo remote app ushers in a new area of losing Android phones in the couch
Posted in: Android, apps, remote, Today's ChiliIs the devoted remote going the way of dodo? HiFi audio manufacturer Onkyo is certainly hedging its bets with the release of its first Android app, which gives users the ability to control a number of its home theater systems. The Remote App, due out in August, makes it possible to browse content and stream audio from Android smartphones to the TX-8050 and all Onkyo A/V network receivers released this year. This isn’t the company’s first flirtation with the open world of Android. Late last year, Onkyo beat the competition to the punch by announcing a couple of Android tablets.

Griffin’s StompBox available to order, virtual guitar shredding now a go
Posted in: app, guitar, ios, IphoneApp, Music, Today's ChiliRemember that Griffin-made StompBox we showed you back in January? Well, it’s finally hit the market, so you can free up those virtuoso hands and get to pedal-pounding wicked sound effects. The four button foot controller works with Frontier Design’s iShred LIVE app for iOS, connecting your instrument via an included GuitarConnect cable to a 1/4-inch jack. The device is “designed to work with… a guitar, bass guitar, electric violin and keyboard,” so your virtual jam band session is all but guaranteed. This musical f/x dongle is available to order now for $99.99 online, or you can just head to one of Apple’s boutiques to snag it. Sadly, the effects switcher doesn’t come bundled with a copycat of Slash’s hat, but that shouldn’t stop your credit card from indulging in this latest bout of Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
