Open Street Map has been helping Flickr display geotagged shots for some time. That crowdsourced map data has led to more than a few photos being located in a gray blob, however, which is why Yahoo just struck a deal to put Nokia maps into as many nooks and crevices of the world as possible. The addition will make sure that Instagram photo tour of Africa is often accurate down to the street corner, not to mention give a slightly Finland-tinged look to the maps themselves. Open Street Map isn’t going away, but it’s now being used only for those areas where regular coverage is spotty or non-existent. The images already apply to any existing and upcoming uploads — there will be no question that self-portrait was taken in Tanzania.

If you are still relying on any service from Apple’s MobileMe, you may check this out: the service is going to be interrupted tomorrow, so you should move to iCloud now. In theory, this should be pretty easy, but to be honest I didn’t have enough stuff in MobileMe to make it hard either. But if you had  a ton of things synchronized etc, it’s best to test all that as soon as possible before experiencing any kind of abrupt interruption.

We’ve seen a fair share of space-saving nettops pass through our very own crowded halls, so what’s one more to add to the list? Especially when it’s one being flaunted as the most eco-friendly, energy-efficient PC. That’s exactly what ASUS thinks of its EeeBox EB1030, which aside from sporting a relatively minimalist design (as is usually the case with nettops), it’s also boasting Intel’s latest batch of Cedar Trail CPUs. To go along with those Atom processors (1.86GHz), ASUS is making this mini machine as configurable as it could get, giving users the option to load it with up to 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive combined with 32GB of SSD goodness. Ports-wise the unit’s pretty standard, offering options such as an HDMI, VGA, microphone, audio jack, card reader and four USB two-dot-ohs. Of course, the amount of cash you’ll have to shell out will depend on the setup of choice, with pricing set to start at €296, or around $370 in American dollars.

It has been reported that some Yahoo Mail account users are seeing a surge in email SPAM. This is a relatively new development because although GMail remains the best player in town for SPAM filtering, Yahoo Mail wasn’t so bad – especially when compared to Hotmail. This is even more suprising if you take into account that Yahoo has been recently DMARC-certified (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance), which is a protocol/policy that helps all DMARC members communicate among themselves in order to fight spam. Facebook, Google and Microsoft are also members – so you would expect Yahoo Mail to be less SPAM-prone, if anything.

Yet, according to select users, their surge of SPAM started recently, and from the surface it looks like spammers are able to somehow send emails while being logged into the user’s account. When a user is logged-in, the email is deemed secure and many SPAM filters/checks are disabled.

If that’s true, and there is no proof that it is, this would be very bad. The idea that someone can send stuff like that means that the account has been compromised.

Delta Airlines will be expanding WiFi access to more than 150 international aircraft including Boeing 777, 767, 747, Airbus 330 and transoceanic Boeing 757 starting at the beginning of 2013. Existing air-to-ground service has been conveniently available on domestic flights within the US, but international access has always been constrained by this ground-based technology normally used by airlines.

To make WiFi access possible while flying over large bodies of water, service provider Gogo will be working with high-bandwith Ku-band capacity satellites for the first time ever on any airline. Once completed in 2015, it’s expected that Delta will be operating about 1,000 WiFi-enabled aircraft internationally.

There’s nothing quite like sending a tweet or snapping an Instagram photo when you’re high above the middle of the Atlantic ocean, and even though the technology will be more expensive, Delta and Gogo are well aware that customers are keen on staying connected all the time. The airline currently serves over 160 million customers annually and all Delta Connection two-class regional jets offer over 400,000 passengers WiFi access on a daily basis.
