Samsung’s Galaxy Note II Will Launch On All Five Major U.S. Wireless Carriers By “Mid-November”

galnote2

Like the Galaxy S III before it, Samsung has just announced that the new Galaxy Note II will indeed hit all five major U.S. carriers — AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon Wireless — by the middle of this November.

Fine, I admit it, the company’s still being pretty vague here. As usual, Samsung has left it up to the carriers to announce exactly when the new-fangled phablet will hit their respective store shelves, but rest easy — those announcements are bound to start trickling out any minute now.

There’s also no official word on pricing (on-contract or otherwise), but if the original is any indicator the Note II should launch with a price tag between $249 and $299.

Before we get too wrapped up in the details, let’s consider the hardware for just a moment — the Note II’s 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display and redesigned S-Pen may count among the device’s biggest draws, but its internals are worthy of some extra scrutiny here. While plenty of international handsets tend to get neutered once they make their way stateside, that thankfully doesn’t seem to be the case with the Note II. Samsung’s 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos chipset still runs the show here, while 2GB of RAM and an LTE radio help keep things moving at a snappy pace.

What’s more, the device is Samsung’s first to ship pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, though the Korean company’s liberal application of TouchWiz may make that fact a tough one to discern at first glance. Of course, Samsung’s additions don’t end there: the full slew of S-Pen applications is present too, as are plenty of modifications and updates seen in the recently-launched Galaxy Note 10.1 (think increased S-Pen sensitivity, greater hover distance, and more).

It’s also worth noting that Samsung’s timing really couldn’t be any better — LG opened the doors to its latest press conference/domestic phone unveiling just an hour ago, and now its rival has announced availability for its newest top-tier Android handset. To top it all off, LG also just recently launched its own hulking handset — the LG Intuition — which was largely panned by critics. The poor guys just can’t catch a break.

Qlocktwo digital timepiece brightens up any room

If you want a different timepiece for your home, you might want to consider the £799.99 Qlocktwo. Sure, it is not a cheap purchase at all, where it comes in black, lime, purple and red color options, but you can be sure that this is going to be a conversation starter for whoever drops by your place. This gorgeous timepiece will let you tell the time via an elegant typographical display, where its minimalist design will show off the current time via statements instead of two hands or some numbers. For example, we are looking at time statements such as ‘it is half past nine’ and ‘it is twenty five to twelve’, where the intervening minutes will be indicated by a light in each corner.

The clock body itself is made out of quality hardwood with a high strength, glossy acrylic front plate that will come in the colors mentioned above. It is completely adjustable, where the Qlocktwo sports an automatic light sensor as well as multiple brightness settings. Not only that, you can also choose to select the option to show seconds and the date. The available languages include German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Danish, Swedish, Arabic, Swiss German and Spanish.

Dar Al Gani 1058 moon rock heads to auction

The chances of you having ever heard of the Dar al Gani 1058 moon rock, which is a lunar meteorite, is slim. However, this moon rock is notable because it’s the largest ever put up for auction. Auction house Heritage Auctions believes that the chunk of the moon could go for $380,000.

This particular lunar meteorite isn’t a piece of moon rock returned by the Apollo astronauts, so NASA has no claim over the rock and can’t stop the auction. Any moon rock returned by Apollo astronauts remains the property of NASA and the US government and can’t be sold to the public. This rock weighs four pounds is the fourth largest piece of moon rock available to the public.

It’s worth noting that rocks actually retrieved by probes or astronauts sent to the moon are worth more than lunar meteorites because of the inherent collector’s value of such pieces. Dar al Gani 1058 was a piece of the lunar highland breccias from the moon’s far side according to experts. There’s no way to tell exactly when the rock was ejected from the moon.

The moon rock was discovered in Libya in 1998. It has been put up for auction by an anonymous collector and the opening bid for the rock is set at $170,000. The auction house expects the rock will go to a museum and calls the specimen “worthy the most important natural history museums in the world.”

Samsung Galaxy Note II announced for all major US carriers

Samsung has just announced some excellent news folks. We had a feeling this was coming but this morning Samsung’s confirmed their new and impressive Galaxy Note II smartphone phablet will be arriving on all major US carriers, starting in November. The Galaxy Note II will launch nationwide on all carriers just like the smaller Galaxy S III.

Possibly even bigger news is the fact that the Samsung’s own Exynos quad-core processor will be included. Samsung won’t be switching to the dual-core Qualcomm S4 like the Galaxy S III, and all Note II’s will launch in the US with the quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 4G LTE/HSPA+ speeds. We had a feeling Samsung would be taking this route, and now that they’ve confirmed it I’m sure there’s plenty of happy customers.

We’ve seen the Note II leak for Verizon, and some recent screenshots seemingly confirmed it was headed to T-Mobile too. Many that wanted the original Note couldn’t simply because it launched exclusively to AT&T here in the US, but this time around almost everyone will get a chance to own this massive 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED packing phablet.

Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy Note II will be arriving for Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, The Now Network, and US Cellular all by mid November. They say the devices will launch by mid November, so that means we very well could see it arrive in October for some if the carriers get them ready to rock in time. Just like the original Galaxy Note II announced last month at IFA 2012, the US models will come with the exact same specs. Those include that vibrant 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display (1280x720p), Samsung’s 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 8 megapixel rear and 1.9 MP front cameras, 16GB storage, the awesome S-Pen stylus and a massive 3,100 mAh battery.

The Galaxy Note II will be Samsung’s first smartphone to ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the gate, and they stated carriers will be announcing exact dates and pricing details soon, so stay tuned! Oh and since they’ll be the same hardware wise, take a peek at our international model hands-on video below.

Helios iPhone Telepresence Robot: Small, Cheap & Available Soon

Telepresence robots seem to be something that some people are starting to look at, and that’s one of the reasons why two Princeton students, Tianlong Wang and Xinyi Chen created the Helios robot. It turns your smartphone into a mobile telepresence rig for far less than other solutions.

helios telepresence robot iphone

Helios looks pretty interesting, as it’s an extremely low-cost solution. I’m all for telepresence, but spending thousands of dollars for a remote avatar doesn’t interest me at all. The Helios will retail for just $99(USD). The small, wheeled robot will allow you to have video chats with friends, family and co-workers around the globe, while you can steer the tiny ‘bot to follow them around or change camera position remotely. Thanks to a clever system that reads symbols off the bottom edge of the smartphone’s screen, it should work readily with a variety of phones. The prototypes work only with iPhones, but after launch, the plan is to release Android and Windows Phone apps as well.

Hello Labs is currently accepting pre-orders for the device, which is supposed to ship for this year’s holiday season. They also plan on launching Helios as a Kickstarter campaign.

Samsung’s MultiView MV900F begins shipping with 180-degree AMOLED display for $350

Shipping targets aren’t set in stone, so we weren’t terribly surprised to see Samsung miss its late-August goal for the new MultiView MV900F. Today, the Korean CE giant announced that its MV900F is now available for purchase at US retailers, still priced at $350. Those three and a half bills will net you a 16.3-megapixel shooter with the series’ trademark 180-degree touchscreen — this iteration packs many more pixels than its predecessor, with a WVGA AMOLED panel. The MultiView snapper lets you frame shots from in front of the camera, with a display that flips to face forward, while gesture controls enable you to fire a frame and zoom the lens with a wave. There’s also 1080p video shooting, an f/2.5-6.3, 25mm 5x optical zoom lens and built-in WiFi, for direct image uploads. You can grab your MV900F at big box retailers and camera stores, along with US-based e-tailers beginning today.

Samsung Galaxy Note II to land ‘by mid-November’ on all major US carriers

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

We’d say the wait is nearly over, but that wouldn’t be telling the whole truth. Inching ever closer to a hard launch date, Samsung’s Galaxy Note II is now poised to hit stateside on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular “by mid-November.” If you’re seeking anything more specific than that, you’ll have to hold out for individual carrier announcements. What we do know for sure, however, is that the US variant of this 5.5-incher will be packing HSPA+42 / LTE radios and sporting a nigh unchanged build — much like the company’s other flagship, the GS III. To recap, this S-Pen equipped phablet, recently unveiled at IFA 2012, features a 1280 x 720 HD Super AMOLED display, quad-core 1.6GHz Exynos processor, 2GB RAM and ships with a skinned version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Sure, this release is shaping up to be a slow tease, but that anticipation just makes the final bow of this second act even sweeter. Official PR after the break.

LG Optimus G and its quad-core 1.5GHz S4 Pro coming to US shores in Q4 (update: video)

When it comes to LG’s latest flagship, it appears there can be no shortage of official announcements. So, while the news from overseas may not be quite so fresh, there’s certainly nothing stale about the Optimus G. Today the company held a second celebration in honor of its powerhouse — the first to pack Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro: a quad-core SoC clocked at 1.5GHz. Buffered by a heaping 2GB RAM and an Adreno 320 GPU this absolutely beastly device is officially coming to American shores in the fourth quarter of this year. The 4.7-inch phone may ship with some slightly different specs, depending on carrier, but they’ll still find a home for the 1280 x 768 True HD, in-cell, IPS display. There’s no specifics about carriers or pricing as yet, but we’ll let you know when we do.

Update: Hit the break for LG’s Optimus G PR video.

The NEW Bamboo Stylus Pocket – Because Fingers are Fat

I honestly hate my husbands Smartphone, whenever we’re in the car and he asks me to answer a text for him, I hate it even more. I can’t say that I have particularly chubby fingers, but I can never seem to get through a whole text without mis-typing several letters. I can think of a few phones, tablets, or even some apps that could truly benefit from a nice stylus… was there something wrong with using a stylus? Who decided fingers were better?

Check out the new Bamboo Stylus pocket, allowing so much more to be accomplished using a touch screen. Forget your fingers, using the new Stylus is much more precise, accurate and comfortable when editing pictures, drawing maps or creating dynamic presentations. John Legere confirmed as new Chief Executive Officer of T-Mobile USA

John Legere confirmed as new Chief Executive Officer of TMobile USA

Back in the heat of summer, T-Mobile USA‘s then CEO Philipp Humm resigned to take up the mantle at Vodafone. In the interim, former COO Jim Alling stepped up to keep the chair warm while a permanent replacement was found. Today we learn that John Legere, former CEO of Global Crossing, will relieve Alling of those duties, and fill the top spot full-time. With 32 years experience in the industry, Legere also spent time at Dell as president of European, Middle East and African operations. For now, his first task will likely be leading the firm’s LTE deployment, and trying to win some of the faithful back. Head past the break for the full PR and the new CEO’s first video address to employees.
