Samsung Announces Production of Industry’s First 2GB LPDDR3 Mobile Memory, Using 30nm-class Technology

Samsung has begun mass producing the industry’s first two gigabyte (GB), low power double-data-rate 3 (LPDDR3) memory, using 30 nanometer (nm) class technology, for next-generation mobile devices.
Samsung started mass production of the industry’s most advanced mobile DRAM (dynamic random access memory) chip, only ten months after it began producing the industry’s first 30nm-class based 2GB LPDDR2 memory in October, 2011. The new LPDDR3, which marks the first time a 2GB LPDDR3 density is …

Amazon brings Cloud Player music service to the UK: choice of free or premium tiers from 6 per year

Brits who’ve been straining for a reason to care about Amazon’s budding Cloud Player service can probably relax. It’s live in the UK as of now, offering 5GB of online storage and the ability to stream 250 of your tracks (or 256Kbps matched versions) to a range of devices free of charge. Adding extra storage will cost from £6 per year for 20GB, rising to £320 p/a for a full terabyte. If you’re a heavy user, though, you may also need to fork out £22 p/a for the right to stream up to 250,000 of your tracks. Paying to play music you already purchased? Indeed, further exertion may be necessary to figure out if it’s all worth it, along with a glance at the detailed press release after the break.

Nissan DeltaWing set to hit the track again during the American Le Mans series finale

One of the most radical racing cars I’ve ever seen is the Nissan DeltaWing. This race car takes conventional design and tosses it out in favor of a radical departure in design that Nissan hopes will prove to be the future of racing cars. The DeltaWing previously competed in a major event and performed impressively well for a prototype.

The biggest event that the DeltaWing has been part of so far was the 24 hours Le Mans held three months ago. Nissan has announced that the DeltaWing will race again and has entered the prototype vehicle in the American Le Mans series finale. The finale race will be held at Road Atlanta on October 17-20th.

Nissan created the cool DeltaWing race car in an attempt to use half to fuel and half the tires of contemporary sports prototype racecars during the Le Mans 24 hours race. Sadly, the Nissan DeltaWing had to retire from the infamous race after six hours of participation due to unintended contact with another vehicle.

Interestingly, the rules of the endurance race said that driver Satoshi Motoyama could’ve reentered the fray if he could fix the vehicle on his own. The driver spent 90 minutes by himself on the side of the racetrack attempting to repair the damage and get back into the race before he was ultimately forced to retire.

LG Optimus G is their latest flagship device

South Korean consumer electronics giant LG has come up with their latest flagship smartphone known as the LG Optimus G, where this particular LTE device is said to deliver superior user experience for “Living Without Boundaries”, whatever that means. This new premium flagship device delivers a totally unique User Experience (UX) that is supported by innovative hardware performance. The kind of hardware located underneath the hood is said to be powerful enough to deliver a creative and engaging UX which will allow Optimus G owners to, in the aforementioned words, “live without boundaries.” Just what kind of performance does it pack? Let us check out right after the jump, shall we not?

For starters, it will feature the powerful quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor alongside the rest of the industry best technologies for enhanced viewing and longer battery life, all crammed into a beautiful sleek design and innovative UX features. LG hopes that the Optimus G will be able to deliver the kind of experience that you cannot find on other smartphones in the market, but we do wonder just how lofty this particular claim is in comparison with other flagship models from rival manufacturers.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said, “The Optimus G is a groundbreaking premium device not only in the history of LG but also in the smartphone industry. With the Optimus G, users will be able to experience unsurpassed UX features that will allow them to perform tasks that really enhance their daily lives.”

For instance, the QSlide Function displays a couple of different screens simultaneously on a single display. It will not only show off a part of the screen but the entire screen of both functions, where the user will be able to be more productive, completing two tasks simultaneously, including sending a text message or looking for something on the web while watching a video.

Not only that, Live Zooming allows one to enjoy an ehanced video-watching experience as users are able to zoom in up to five times while the video is being streamed for an up close and personal experience, such as reliving your child’s recorded video from a school recital.

Other hardware specifications include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.7-inch WXGA display, 2GB RAM, a 13-megapixel camera at the back with a 1.3-megapixel shooter up front, a 2,100mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, and USB connectivity alongside DLNA and NFC support. Are you interested in the LG Optimus G as your next flagship device?

Like Peanut Butter And Chocolate: Apple’s Jony Ive To Design One-Of-A-Kind Leica M

leica-apple

Apple’s going to have to temporarily share its design wizard Sir Jonathan Ive, with high-end camera maker Leica, as Ive will be creating a special, super limited edition of one version of the new Leica M announced by the company yesterday according to PetaPixel. That’s bound to be a drool-worthy camera, and this might represent the perfect storm of tech design fanboyism.

No details about what the new Leica will look like or whether it’ll differ considerably from its stock base model, but only one will ever exist, and that’s likely enough to get the kind of people who can afford this sort of thing salivating. The single edition will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to charity.

The new Leica M, unveiled yesterday, offers a 24MP full 35mm format CMOS sensor, and introduces 1080p full HD video capability to the M line. Presumably the specs will remain unchanged on the Ive-designed version, but that’s not really what one lucky rich person’s going to be paying for here. For those of us stuck looking at even the Leica M not designed by a British knight as little more than a fantasy, there’s always another, much more affordable way to mash up your love for Apple with your love for Leica: This sticker, which hopefully gets an upgrade for the iPhone 5 soon.

Colors! Samsung’s Galaxy Camera pops at Photokina with vibrant orange and magenta paint jobs

Colors! Samsung's Galaxy Camera pops at Photokina with vibrant orange and magenta paint jobs

Another Photokina star is Samsung’s Galaxy Camera, which launched to much fanfare several weeks ago at IFA, but dominates the company’s photo-themed booth at the biennial photography show in Cologne, Germany. There’s not much more to report on the hardware side, apart from confirmation that certain versions of the Android snapper will pack LTE, but there are indeed some very shiny new finishes to gawk at. First up is a bright orange flavor — if you feared that the Galaxy point-and-shoot’s rather large footprint wouldn’t attract enough attention on its own in the field, you shouldn’t have any such concerns with an orange model. Also of the neon persuasion is a flashy pink version, which like the aforementioned color, should draw many an eye. We were quite pleased with the black and white models we saw at IFA, and while Samsung clearly has a few colorful prototypes in circulation, the company says they’re only being considered at this point, with your feedback determining the final options. So, what do you think? Would you buy an orange or pink Galaxy Camera? Let us know in the comments after the break.

Intel-powered Motorola RAZR i has been officially revealed

Last week we reported that thanks to an FCC filing, a device with the model number XT890 was spotted and was speculated to be the Intel-powered version of the Motorola RAZR M. While that remains to be seen, Motorola and Intel have officially taken the wraps off the Motorola RAZR i, which is basically the UK’s version of the RAZR M with the main difference being that is powered by Intel’s Medfield processor which has been clocked at faster speeds of 2GHz. LG Pocket Photo is photo printer you can take with you on the go

While the device pictured above to the left might resemble a portable hard drive, it is in fact a portable printer by LG. Dubbed the Pocket Photo, this is a mobile photo printing solution for those who want the ability to print photos while on the go and measures 2.8×4.7×0.9-inches, making this the world’s smallest picture printer which as the name has suggested, could fit into your pocket. Photos taken can be sent to the Pocket Photo via NFC, Bluetooth or USB via an Android app, so for those running on iOS it looks like you’re out of luck for now! The app will also allow users to edit the photos, applying filters, messages and even QR codes. The Pocket Photo will be able to print 2×3-inch photos and uses heat-activated Zink paper, thus discarding the need for conventional ink cartridges. No word on when it will be released in the US, but it is expected to debut in Korea and will cost about $169.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD tablet has been rooted despite fears of it being hack-resistant

So yesterday we reported that according to several XDA developers, they have expressed their worry that Amazon’s new Kindle Fire tablets might be hack resistant due to the locked bootloader and extra security measures implemented by Texas Instruments. Well it seems that it did not take long for the rest of the community to put those fears to rest as a root method for the Kindle Fire HD tablet has already been discovered. Credit goes to sparkym3 who discovered the exploit which was also used for the ASUS Transformer Prime. In any case for those who want to root their Kindle Fire HD tablet, you can pop on over to the XDA forums where the relevant files, instructions and a video are available to guide you through the process. We advise you to proceed at your own risk.
