This portable karaoke machine works with your smartphone or tablet

If you’ve always wanted to be able to bring karaoke with you wherever you go, then this little gadget might be worth checking out. Dubbed the AppToyz AppSing, it’s basically a microphone and a portable set of speakers that will crank out your favorite tune to sing to. Rather interesting is the fact that the microphone comes with a holder than you can use to hold your smartphone where you will be able to read the lyrics and have more freedom to move about, rather than be glued to the television’s screen like traditional karaoke machines.

However if you’d rather use a tablet, there’s a slot on the speaker portion of the machine that will hold your tablet. It will come with an app that will be compatible with both iOS and Android devices and you can grab one for yourself at RED5’s website for about $65. It sure looks pretty portable but we’re not sure everyone around you might appreciate karaoke on the go.

LG outs Pocket Photo mobile picture printer, says it's the smallest of its kind

Hankering for an instant photo solution without the vintage Polaroid look? LG’s Pocket Photo, which measures up at approximately 2.8- x 4.7- x 0.9-inches and is touted as the world’s smallest mobile picture printer, might fit the bill. Images are slung from smartphones to the Optimus Vu-sized hardware via NFC, Bluetooth or USB with the help of an Android app, which can also be used to apply filters and overlay QR codes and messages. Unfortunately for iPhone-toting photographers, there’s no mention of an iOS companion application. Leveraging heat-activated Zink paper, the rig can churn out 2- x 3-inch prints without relying on conventional ink. Pocket Photo is making its way to shelves in Korea with a roughly $169 price tag dressed in orange, pink and silver accents, but there’s no word on a US release. Head past the break to catch a video of the gizmo in action.

BMW to unveil updated i3 Concept electric vehicle at Paris Motor Show

Going green seems to be the trend these days and car manufacturers are starting to come up with ways to make going green a little more appealing. For those who are in the market for a new electric vehicle, it looks like BMW will be unveiling their new i3 Concept electric vehicle in Paris at the Paris Motor Show later this month. This is basically the i3 Concept that BMW has been working on for a while now, but this will be the latest version that they will be revealing. In this particular version, BMW will be emphasizing not just on the vehicle’s ability to cut the need for fuel, but at the same time on the interior of the vehicle which makes use of renewable materials.

Examples of sustainable interior includes the use of an eucalyptus dashboard taken from a sustainable source in Europe, along with the use of natural fibers like wool and a leather tanning agent extract from olive leaves. It sounds pretty good and as far as performance is concerned, the i3 Concept packs 125kW/170bhp and 250Nm of instantly accessible torque that will take the car from 0-100 in a pretty impressive 8 seconds, or so they claim. The battery of the i3 Concept is also expected to take six hours to charge. If this is an electric vehicle you wouldn’t mind getting your hands on, it seems that this i3 Concept is set for serial production in 2013 so we still have quite a way to go.

Skyrim: Dawnguard for PlayStation 3′s status not expected to change “soon”

So we know that both Sony and Bethesda are hard at work trying to get Skyrim: Dawnguard to work on the PlayStation 3. It’s rather unfortunate given that Hearthfire has already been released but PlayStation 3 owners have yet to play the first Skyrim DLC. That being said, it seems that the work being done on the PlayStation 3 version is still going on and it does not appear that we might be seeing it anytime soon. According to Bethesda’s Pete Hines via Twitter, he revealed that this was not a situation where the status is expected to change “soon” and there is no quick or easy solution to it. It certainly does not bode well for PlayStation 3 gamers, but what do you guys think? Are you hoping that Bethesda and Sony work something out eventually, or have you given up on Dawnguard for the PlayStation 3 entirely?

Developers Suspect the New Kindle Fires Will Be Hack-Resistant [Amazon]

If you were banking on hacking a new Kindle Fire to take advantage of cheap hardware without Amazon’s modded Android OS, you perhaps better think again. Developers over at XDA are speculating that they expect the new range of Fires to be too sophisticated to hack. More »

Panasonic teases 425mm f12 and 150mm f28 MFT lenses, slated for release by 2014

Panasonic further reinforced its commitment to the Micro Four Thirds form factor when it released the Lumix GH3 mirrorless camera today, but the company also announced the development of a pair of prime lenses, set to ship next year or in 2014. Details are spotty at this point (limited to what you see in that slide above, in fact), but you can expect a 42.5mm f/1.2 optic (85mm equivalent) and a 150mm f/2.8 lens, which offers a 35mm equivalent of 300mm. There wasn’t even a hint of pricing, but we’d expect both of these offerings to be quite costly, though they’ll likely be significantly less expensive than DSLR equivalents.

Amazon’s new Kindle Fire tablets are likely to be hack-resistant

Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablets are likely to be hackresistant

If you were counting on getting all imaginative with the firmware on a new Fire or 7-inch Fire HD, you might want to check out a recent forum post over at XDA. Written by user kinfauns with input from another XDA regular called pokey9000, it concerns evidence that — unlike the original Kindle Fire — both of these devices come with more sophisticated protection, including locked bootloaders and the use of “high security” features offered by Texas Instruments’ OMAP processors. Such discoveries probably won’t inspire the same degree of outrage as certain other locked devices, considering how Amazon is understandably focused on its own ecosystem and advertising, but they might still count as a disadvantage against the pure Android Nexus 7. The XDA thread ends with only the merest hint of hope — the potential for a workaround similar to what’s been used on the Nook Tablet — but it’s hope nonetheless.
