Geeky movie props turn up at auction

If you’re a big fan of movies and television, undoubtedly you have some of your favorite shows that may or may not be on the air anymore. A lot of people out there would love to own a prop used in one of their favorite movies or TV shows, and you can do just that. A company called ScreenUsed has announced a new auction that will be conducted on Saturday, November 3 of this year packed with cool props.

The auction has a huge number of items that were used on the screen in some of the most popular movies and television shows out there. If you ever want to own Jayne Cobb’s Vera machine gun from the series Firefly, here is your chance. The auction in November has a lot of other cool stuff as well.

Other interesting items that will be on auction include a Wink costume from the flick Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Neo’s coat from The Matrix Revolutions, and an even a production used clapperboard from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. While all that stuff is cool, those aren’t the most interesting items to me.

One of the most interesting items in the auction is the full racing suit worn by Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights. The racing suit is a customized Sparco racing suit worn by Ferrell along with the Wonder Bread hat and puma shoes. Another of the supremely cool items on display is a full endoskeleton chest from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. There are also multiple Star Trek uniforms and props as well as the Superman bodysuit worn by Christopher Reeve in Superman III.

Zagg unveils iPad mini Bluetooth keyboard cases

If you’re planning on picking up the iPad mini, you might be interested to learn that Zagg has recently announced two new iPad mini Bluetooth keyboard cases. That’s right, if you’d rather not type on the iPad mini’s onscreen keyboard, you will be able to do so via an external and physical one with the Zaggkeys Mini 7 or the Zaggkeys Mini 9, with the former featuring a simple and basic keyboard layout, while the latter will offer the user more function keys to play with. The only drawback is that the Zaggkeys Mini 9 will measure 9”, which means that there will be additional weight involved, which also makes the iPad mini larger. The extra plastic seems kind of ugly but we guess some of you might not mind it. Both cases are priced at $90 and are expected to be available come 2nd of November, so head on over to Zagg’s website if you’d like to learn more about it.

Audi R8 e-tron won't see public sale, will be used for internal evaluation only

It’s time to put your dreams of owning Audi’s R8 e-tron to bed — the German automaker won’t be shipping the electric car to dealerships, according to a Wired source. The record setting vehicle’s sales plans were apparently axed due to driving range concerns and a new focus on plug-in hybrid vehicles. We followed up with a contact of our own, who confirmed that the R8 would be produced only in small numbers, and only for internal use, at that. The R8 may be dead, but its core achievements should appear in future vehicles, we’re told — including its lightweight construction, AMOLED rear-view mirror and battery management system.

BenQ unveils VW30 series of monitors that have been optimized for MacBooks

Hook an external monitor up to a MacBook isn’t new – in fact there are many out there who probably already do that. However if you felt that your current external monitor did not replicate the colors on your MacBook’s screen accurately, it seems that BenQ has recently introduced a new monitor series, the VW30 series of vertical alignment LED monitors. Supposedly when connected to your MacBook via an M-book mode, the monitor will be able to recreate the “authentic” image quality of your MacBook in terms of picture quality, gamma and whitepoint. There’s even a Reading Mode which will supposedly adjust the monitor’s settings in a way that simulates the warmth of reading paper.

Available in 21.5” or 24” sizes, these monitors offer 1080p Full HD, a contrast ratio of 5000:1, a 178-degree viewing angle, an Eco mode, HDMI 1.4, DVI-D and VGA connectivity and are priced at $179 and $249 respectively. More information on the monitors can be found at BenQ’s website.

Video game helps children with anger issues learn to control emotions

A study has been conducted at Boston Children’s Hospital using a video game called Rage Control. The study investigated helping children learn to control anger issues by learning to control their emotions. The study was created by Jason KAHN PhD and Joseph González-Heydrich at Boston Children’s Hospital.

The game itself sounds a lot like Space Invaders and involves the kids shooting enemy spaceships while avoiding shooting at friendly ones. The kids who play the game have a monitor attached to one finger that tracks the heart rate and displays it on the computer screen. If the kid’s heart rate goes above a certain level, they lose the ability to shoot enemy spaceships.

To be able to regain the ability to shoot enemy spaceships, they have to reduce their heart rate by learning to be calm and control their emotions. The study compared two groups of kids between 9 and 17 years old who had high levels of anger. Kids who participated in the study had to have a normal IQ and couldn’t have required a medication change during the five-day study period.

One group used in the study had 19 children who received standard treatment for anger, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques, and social skills training for five consecutive business days. The second group of participants included 18 children who received the same treatment, but spent the last 15 minutes of psychotherapy sessions playing Rage Control. The study found that after five sessions, the kids who played the video game were significantly better at keeping the heart rate down and showed clinically significant decreases in anger scores on the State Trait Anger Expression Inventory-Child and Adolescent.
