Medea Benjamin: Egyptians Stand Up to President’s Power Grab

Morsi’s declaration was a complicated one, as it included some positive things for Egypt’s revolutionaries. But outrage was sparked by the proviso that all presidential decisions be immune from judicial review.

FlymeOS Port For the Galaxy S

The Samsung Galaxy S I9001 is not exactly one of those devices out there which you would fall in love with at first glance, and it is definitely far from the glamorous Galaxy S3 when it comes to popularity at this point in time. Well, it seems that there is a rather big port that is being worked upon, which will eventually see the increasingly popular FlymeOS being ported over, courtesy of XDA forum member sc4les. The ROM, however, does seem to carry its fair share of major issues, where among the list of stuff that do not work include the browser that experiences webview error, the inability to view emails, and graphical glitches in select areas.

Good thing 3G connectivity is working all right, alongside calling as well as text messaging, so you will not be left with a dud. The resolution for the launcher is not at 100% either, but at least we do know that progress is being made. There is nothing quite like breathing new life into an older handset with a port, right?

Kirsten Chilstrom: Tanlines Dishes on ‘Not the Same’ and Keeping It Real

When the indie-electronic band Tanlines landed on the scene in March 2012, their arrival was one of great commotion. Their third music video, “Not the Same,” debuts this week and was, as band member Jesse Cohen put it, a “labor of love.”

This Onion TED Parody Has a Dog Eating Apple Pie, and That’s All That Matters

I’m sure the new Onion’s TED parody is funny, but I was just too impatient to sit through all that talk about how we consume, digest and poop out news even before they are fully written. So I jumped to the end, when a dog eats an apple pie, a moment I’ve waited to see in detail since they released their series trailer. More »

Will.i.am iPhone accessory line kicking off with three vintage models

The i.am+ accessory line has begun with a set of three iPhone covers that convert the device into a much more high-powered camera than the smartphone is on its own. This lineup is being launched by Black Eyed Peas musician will.i.am and will be expanded upon via an ecosystem online and through high-end shops throughout the UK (at first, anyway.) This was announced with great glee by will.i.am in London this week with a full-on music video showing tonight with none other than Britney Spears.

Of course if you’re the type to get pumped up by Britney Spears and will.i.am collaborating on a music video, you’ll also find the iPhone accessory line appealing in both look and price – they’ll be appearing in the video tonight as well. There will be three models released for the iPhone 4/4S initially, then three more in early 2013 with many of the same abilities (and some unique to the next-generation device).

What you’re seeing above and below is the set of three outer bodies that are coming with this first wave of accessories for the iPhone. You’ll see a full-on LED flash up front along with interchangeable lenses and vintage aesthetics all around. It’s quite likely that these units will all be released at once while the next generation (for the iPhone 5) brings on a slightly different look to differentiate generations.

This announcement is also accompanied by the first appearance of i.am (the website). This website now shows a “Launching December 6th 2012″ message as well as the official i.am+ logo with the clipped-up photos you see above of each of the three camera accessories. You can also sign up on the site for information as it comes down the chute on the 6th. Also at the moment you’ll find both Britney Spears and will.i.am tweeting their hearts out promoting the Scream and Shout single as the official launch of the music video nears.

The two units we’ve got information on thus far are one of the two black models – one or both of which will be considered part of the “Modern Look” series and will start at 199 pounds (a bit over $300 USD). The white model is the “Vintage Look” series and will be starting at 299 pounds (that being just shy of $500 USD). The Vintage Look model will also be coming with a slide-out keyboard.

Adobe updates Photoshop Touch to get cozy on the iPad mini and Nexus 7

Adobe updates Photoshop Touch to get cozy on the iPad mini and Nexus 7

Less than a fortnight has passed since Adobe sent its slate-friendly photo editing app to Amazon’s Appstore. Today, the graphics software outfit is rolling out another update of Photoshop Touch that has been optimized for those smaller slates — particularly the options from Apple and Google. In addition to the tweaks that account for less screen real estate, version 1.4 also touts support for three pressure-sensitive styli (Pogo Connect, Jot Touch and the Jaja stylus), added effects, performance enhancements and the ability to share your creations to both Facebook and Twitter without the need to head elsewhere. A fresh download is available now from iTunes, Google Play and the aforementioned Amazon repository for $10. Consult the full announcement below if you’re looking for a few more particulars.

Whatsapp For Android A Paid Service Down The Road?

Hmmm, there are whispers going around which will definitely not go down well with folks who are currently enjoying free communication over Whatsapp – it seems that rumors are floating concerning the most famous chat application for smartphones in the world, touting that we eventually will need to pony up money to use Whatsapp in the future. Apparently, a spokesperson of Whatsapp mentioned to androidworld.nl that Whatsapp might cost a dollar to use down the road, if downloaded over Google Play.

Of course, paying for Whatsapp is not new, as iPhone users had to pony up money for the privilege of using Whatsapp all along. Assuming all Android-powered smartphone users are required to pay for Whatsapp use, Samsung is in a position to capitalize on their ChatON chat program, which comes pre-installed on select Samsung devices, while touting added functionality compared to Whatsapp. In fact, ChatON is said to be extremely popular among bada OS users and folks living in Asia. What do you think?

Grand Theft Auto series still “special” because of infrequent releases

The Grand Theft Auto series has been around for more than a decade now, and it’s still as popular as ever. With Grand Theft Auto V releasing this coming spring, fans of the series are as about as excited as they could possibly get, thanks to a bunch of teasers in the form of trailers and screenshots. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick says that the reason why the GTA series is still popular and “special” is that the game doesn’t see annual releases.

Zelnick obviously brought up the elephant in the room, the popular Call of Duty series, which has seen a yearly release for the past eight years, dating back to the launch of Call of Duty 2 in 2005. Zelnick says that Activision “obviously views the world differently.” However, Take-Two’s view is that “if you want intellectual properties to be permanent, then you run the risk in that circumstance of having consumers fall out of love with that franchise.”

The success of the GTA series is a result of Take-Two’s avoidance of yearly releases, which Zelnick says keeps the series “special.” While franchises like Call of Duty get rebooted each year (and see greater success each time), Zelnick noted the danger of this type of business model, and says that Take-Two is not willing to take those kinds of risks with the GTA series.

The Grand Theft Auto series has shipped 125 million copies since its initial launch in 1997, and this is up 11 million copies since September 2011 when Take-Two announced 114 million copies. According to one of the publisher’s representatives, Grand Theft Auto IV shipped 25 million copies, representing 20% of all GTA copies shipped.
