PHOENIX — J.R. Smith sank a baseline 21-footer at the buzzer after a Phoenix turnover with a second to play, giving the depleted New York Knicks a 99-97 victory over the Suns on Wednesday night.

Smith’s tough jumper from 15 feet had tied it at 97 with 10.6 seconds left. Then, after the turnover, Jason Kidd inbounded to Smith, who got the shot off as he sailed toward the out of bounds line. Smith scored 27 and Kidd 23.

BBM Video Arriving In BlackBerry 10

bbm video BBM Video Arriving In BlackBerry 10Late last month, we did confirm that BBM Video will be making a debut in the BlackBerry 10 operating system, thanks to the appearance of a folder known as “bbm_vieo” on the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha phone. Well, this time around, we have an internal RIM document to thank for confirming the existence of this particular feature on BlackBerry 10. Said document even shows off just how the feature would work in real life, where using BBM, a chat session between two contacts can be switched over to BBM Video in a jiffy. Following that, pushing a button is a snap to share a spreadsheet or presentation.

The documents point towards the setting up of BBM Video with the phone owner’s image located on the bottom left of the display, while there is a giant image of the other party in the conversation which fills up most of the display. BBM Video will launch after RIM begins to offer BBM Voice. We cannot wait for the end of January 2013 to see what other tricks does RIM have up their sleeves to revive the BlackBerry brand.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Beta Test Plans

ff xiv Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Beta Test PlansSquare Enix has been quick off the blocks to share with the world their plans for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which is due for an upcoming beta test. This beta test is said to be divided into four different phases, where it will be available at first only for the PC version of the game. Expect the beta test to begin sometime in the middle of February, with the PlayStation 3 beta test to follow a wee bit later on. The first phase is a closed beta with an NDA in place, and will take anywhere from a fortnight to a month, followed by half a month of debugging, where it will continue with the subsequent phases.

Phase 3 is when the PlayStation 3 beta test begins, and if we were to count the possible weeks required, it would have been nearly 3 months thereabouts after mid-February 2013, so we are looking at a May or June testing phase for the PS3. You can read the entire beta test phases here. (Warning: PDF link)

Apple Moving Mac Mini Production To U.S. With Foxconn [Rumor]

mac mini Apple Moving Mac Mini Production To U.S. With Foxconn [Rumor]It looks like we’ve finally found the missing piece to the puzzle. Earlier this month, Apple CEO Tim Cook broke the exciting news that the company is bringing back Mac production in the U.S. Mr. Cook also confirmed that Apple is investing $100 million for the said project and that the company will be working with “people.” The CEO did not specify what “people” meant, and there were speculations that Foxconn could be one of them. If you can still recall, Foxconn has already alluded that it will expand its business in the U.S. (more…)

Randi Zuckerberg’s Facebook Photo Shows That Anyone Can Be Flummoxed By The Network’s Privacy Settings

The Zuckerbergs, normal family folk like you or me, did what many did on Christmas Day: Posted an awkward family photo onto Facebook. Except when Randi Zuckerberg does it — and when that photo gets inadvertently shared with the entire Internet — it becomes a lesson in Facebook’s byzantine privacy settings.

Here’s what happened, as first pointed out by Buzzfeed: Randi, sister of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, posted a photo of the clan checking out Facebook’s new app, Poke, which lets users share photos that get automatically deleted shortly after being opened. Callie Schweitzer, a marketing director at Vox Media, saw the picture in her Facebook feed and, thinking it was a public photo, reshared it on Twitter.

Canon Cinema EOS 1D-C Arrives In Japan, World To Follow

canon eos 1dc Canon Cinema EOS 1D C Arrives In Japan, World To FollowWhen you slap a sticker price of $11,999 on your digital camera (the Canon 1D-C, no less), it is definitely not going to make it to the DSLR best seller list by far and large, but you should not be surprised to hear that there would be a fair number of people who are willing to pony up that kind of insane cash just to bring home this extremely versatile 18-megapixel 4K cam, where it boasts of EOS lens compatibility and a full-frame sensor to boot.

It seems that industry expectations for the Canon EOS 1D-C stood at $15,000 thereabouts for its pricing, so to hear that it has gone under the $12,000 mark (just) is definitely a pleasant surprise. If you have that kind of crazy loose change around to bring home the Canon EOS 1D-C, then make sure you would also have invested in a bunch of high-speed (100MB/s minimum) CF cards, as the EOS 1D-C does shoot 4096 x 2160 video at 24 frames per second, where a minute of footage would amount to a whopping 3.76GB. Out in Japan, the EOS 1D-C is tipped to arrive in the US later this week.

Toshiba preps 20MP, backside-lit sensor for point-and-shoot cameras

Toshiba preps 20megapixel, backsidelit CMOS sensor for pointandshoot cameras

When smartphones are encroaching on compact cameras’ turf, how does a company try to stay relevant making sensors for those cameras? By upping the resolution, of course. Toshiba has given a peek at the TCM5115CL, a 1/2.3-inch, backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that hits 20 megapixels — a big jump from the 16-megapixel sensors in many point-and-shoots and some smartphones. To combat the noise and sensitivity problems that usually come with a denser design, the electronics giant is using pixels that can absorb 15 percent more of a charge, and therefore more light. Toshiba has primed the sensor for high-speed shooting and video as well, with the potential for 1080p video at 60FPS and 30FPS burst shooting at full resolution, provided the processor can keep up. We’re not bracing ourselves for an imminent renaissance among dedicated cameras, however. Mass production doesn’t start until August, which suggests we’re unlikely to have 20-megapixel shooters in our pockets during summer vacation.

Canon rolls out the EOS-1D C in Japan, will bring it to the US soon

Canon has launched its uber-expensive EOS-1D C in Japan, and will be following it up with a launch in the United States rumored to take place in the next couple days. The 1D is priced at $11,999 and offers 18 megapixels in addition to a host of other features. For now, Japanese photographers can pick it up from Canon.jp. You can check out a video shot by the 1D after the jump.

The 4k EOS-1D C offers a full-frame CMOS sensor, and can record video at 4,096 x 2,160 (24fps) in Motion JPEG. Putting it in perspective, the 1D utilizes about 3.8GB for every 60 seconds of recorded video. There’s Super 35mm Crop Mode and Canon Log Gamma. In terms of hardware, the 1D offers an integrated headphone port and HDMI with time code. The unit boasts dual DIGIC 5+ processors.

While the 1D isn’t available to most consumers yet, it has made its rounds, and as a result, there are a handful of nice test videos and images floating around online. The video below displays a variety of shooting situations from Untitled Film Works. The video was made to “explore the exciting possibilities of motion image photography” using the 1D.

The 1D is Canon’s first DSLR that offers 4k and full HD motion imaging on Compact Flash. The body is similar in weight and design to the 5D Mark II. Says Canon, “The EOS-1D C is designed to go where other 4K cameras cannot go – into hostile environments, into very cramped spaces, mounted on the end of extended jib arms, or embedded on-set.”

Decoding PIN Codes Is Easier Than You Think It Is, Says Report

PIN Decoding PIN Codes Is Easier Than You Think It Is, Says ReportDecoding ATM PIN codes might be easier than you think. According to data scientist Nick Berry, an estimated 26.83 percent of all PIN codes could be guessed by using 20 combinations of four-digit numbers. Berry, the founder of the Seattle-based technology consultancy firm Data Genetics, analyzed passwords from security breaches and discovered that there are 10,000 possible combinations that the digits 0 to 9 can have in order to form a four-digit code. Berry also found out that roughly 11 percent of the 3.4 million passwords he analyzed were 1234, while 6 percent of them were 1111.
