Facebook Set To Unveil Revamped Look For News Feed On March 7th

(Reuters) – Facebook Inc will unveil a new look for its popular “newsfeed” next week, the latest move by the Web company to revamp key elements of its 1 billion member social network.

Facebook will showcase the newsfeed makeover at a media event on March 7 at its Menlo Park, California headquarters, the company said in an emailed invitation to reporters on Friday.

The event will be Facebook’s second high-profile product event this year, following the rollout of its social search feature in January.

Polaroid to make Socialmatic Camera a reality for selfaware Instagram fans

Instagram owes its distinctive identity to Polaroid’s OneStep cameras; it’s now time to return the favor. Socialmatic has signed a deal for a production, Polaroid-branded version of its 2012 Socialmatic Camera concept you see above, which translates the mobile app’s retro icon to a real-world, instant-print shooter. While technical details are scarce, the agreement will see accessory maker C&A Marketing build and sell the design sometime in the first quarter of 2014. If the finished Polaroid work is anything like the concept, it could be more than a novelty with its interchangeable lens system, 4.3-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, WiFi and 16GB of storage. We don’t know if the camera will ship with Android, but we hope it does — there would be an appropriately Xzibit-like aspect to running Instagram on top of an Instagram-shaped camera.

News Corp. and Disney allegedly in talks over the future of Hulu

According to sources, News Corp. and Disney are in talks about one of the companies possibly buying out the other to take control of Hulu, with NBC remaining the minority in the matter. Both Disney and News Corp. own about a third of Hulu each, and both are said to differ on how they feel the company should be monetized. Says the sources, these talks are in the beginning stages.

Per the two individuals who provided the information and are said to have knowledge about what is going on, News Corp. is of the opinion that Hulu should be primarily monetized via subscriptions, which is a current option with Hulu Plus ($8 per month). Disney, on the other hand, thinks Hulu should instead be dependent on an ad-based business model.

As part of the talks, both Disney and News Corp. will look into making changes to Hulu’s business model, or into possibly selling the service. Although they are in talks, says the sources, no deal is guaranteed and nothing may come of the alleged talks. Neither corporation has had anything official to say on the matter.

Hulu has grown since its humble beginnings, having been formed by Fox and NBC, which is now the minority holder. The service has grown, with the company reporting late last year that revenue had climed to $695 million, and that the number of subscribers was up substantially to 3 million. These rumors follow the upcoming leave of Hulu’s CEO Jason Kilar, who is set to step down at the end of the month.

‘Zero Hour’ Canceled: ABC Pulls Anthony Edwards Drama After Three Episodes

“Zero Hour” has been canceled, a spokesperson for ABC confirmed to The Huffington Post.

The ABC drama, starring “ER” alum Anthony Edwards, has been pulled after three episodes. “Zero Hour’s” cancellation should come as no surprise, considering the series held the unfortunate honor of being the least-watched premiere for a scripted series ever on ABC — it debuted to 6.3 million viewers and a 1.3 rating in the key 18-49 demographic.

“Zero Hour” continued to drop in the ratings — its final airing on Feb. 28 brought in just 5.1 million viewers and earned a 1.0 rating (and while CBS was airing reruns). The show was up against “The Big Bang Theory” and “American Idol” in its 8 p.m. Thursday timeslot — “Last Resort” held the timeslot on ABC in the fall before it was also axed.

Sony unveils MDR-X05 on-ear compact headphones

Sony has unveiled the newest addition to its X line of headphones, the MDR-X05. The X05 utilize 40mm drivers, meaning you won’t find yourself complaining about lack of bass. The cups are surrounded by memory foam pads, which means they will adhere to the shape of the wearer’s ears, helping to avoid the discomfort that can result from typical over-the-ear headsets. In addition, this also provides a great deal of noise isolation, so you won’t have to worry about disturbances.

The cable on the X05 headphones is specially designed to avoid tangles and similar problems that can result with long cords. This is achieved by using grooved surface serrations to “eliminate” friction. The headset includes an Apple 3-button control as well, and is available in silver, black on red, red on black, red on silver, black on silver, and whilte on silver. They’ll be available on March 22 for $199.

Sony’s Personal Audio Group Vice President Andrew Sivori had this to say: “When Sony teamed up with Simon Cowell, our goal was to create the best sounding headphones in the world for today’s most popular music– allowing listeners to experience the full spectrum of audio that artists and producers hear in recording studios. With the newest X Headphones, now we’re delivering that experience in a more compact and portable design.”
