Developer brings Google+ commenting system to WordPress

Just last week, Google upgraded its Blogger platform to integrate it more with its social network, Google+. With the new feature, blog posts would feature both direct comments, as well as comments in the Google+ status the Blogger link was featured in. Not only did it consolidate all the comments into one system, users were also able to filter out what types of comments they wanted to see. For example, they could choose to see only comments from certain circles, or they could see comments from everyone.

Developer brings Google Plus commenting system to WordPress

The developer for Cloud Hero was inspired by the Blogger/Google+ commenting system integration and decided that WordPress needed one as well. And voila, he managed to develop a Google+ comments plugin for WordPress. Since it’s not an official release from Google, it still has some kinks in it, but it still manages to integrate nicely with WordPress. It has similar features to the Blogger plugin, where you can choose to view comments from everyone, or just from certain circles.

As of right now, the plugin is only available through Cloud Hero and you will have to install it manually, however, Cloud Hero has submitted the plugin to WordPress and it should available in its plugins database shortly. Cloud Hero has the plugin up and running on its website, and so far it seems to be working appropriately. You can see how many +1′s a comment has, if a user edited their comment, quotes from other people, and much more.

This is a nice step forward into making blogging more social as well as making Google+ more popular. At the end of February, Google+ finally joined the ranks of Twitter and Facebook, and allowed users to sign into 3rd party apps, or register for accounts using the “Sign in with Google+” button. While this plugin may not be from Google directly, it is certainly helpful in making its Google+ platform more convenient.

Batman: Arkham Origins rumored to come with multiplayer

The latest installment in the Batman video game series, which is set to arrive on October 25 later this year, is rumored to be packing multiplayer functionality. If true, Batman: Arkham Origins will be the first game out of the series to come with multiplayer where you can play as both the protagonist and the antagonists.

According to Kotaku, two anonymous sources have come forward saying that Origins will arrive with multiplayer, being the first to offer such a feature — Arkham Asylum and Arkham City only came with a single player campaign. Kotaku says that one of the tipsters was the same one who correctly predicted the title of the game, as well as the setting (Christmas Eve with snow in the background).

It’s said that players will be able to play as a member of Joker or Bane’s gang with the task of trying to take down Batman and Robin. As for the bad guys who could be playable and customizable in the game include Killer Croc, Deadshot, Firefly, Black Mask, Deathstroke, and possibly Electrocutioner.

For the time being, it’s unsure whether or not the game will come with multiple multiplayer modes, but sources have seemed to hint at the possibility that there may be more than one mode to play with friends. Of course, we’re taking this with a grain of salt for now, but we should be hearing more about the game as it gets closer to its October 25 release date.

First-ever Braille smartphone could hit stores this year

During a video chat, a visually impaired user can touch the real-time image of a friend’s face and follow that person’s facial expressions.

An interaction designer who makes sci-fi short films has spent the past three years developing what he says is the world’s first Braille-enabled smartphone. He said that if testing goes well, the phones could hit stores by the end of this year.

Thanks in part to award money from Rolex, India-based designer Sumit Dagar has been collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and L V Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad to develop a prototype. The smartphone employs a haptic touch screen that elevates and depresses the content it receives, thereby transforming the data into touchable patterns.

Yes, this phone is essentially a shapeshifter.

Dagar demonstrated the phone’s capabilities during a 2011 Ted Talk. (See video below.) He noted that visually impaired users would be able to touch the real-time image of a person on video chat and follow that person’s facial expressions. He also showed how the technology would help users interpret maps, play games,… [Read more]

7-Foot Tall Iron Man Figure Will Make You The Envy Of The World For Just $8,500

7 Foot Tall Iron Man Figure Will Make You The Envy Of The World For Just $8,500

Iron Man 3 is just a  little over one week away from being released to theaters across the U.S., which we’re hoping you’re making a special trip to Japan to experience the film in 4D. If would rather not spend thousands of dollars to watch the film in another country, then how about a few thousand to have a life-size Iron Man figure?

The figure is a reproduction of the Iron Man Mark 42 suit, which will be one of the suits featured in Iron Man 3, and will only cost you $8,500 when you buy it from the folks at Sideshow Collectibles. The figure, which we hesitate to call a statue for how large it is, is over 7 feet tall and is painted with high-gloss automotive paint that helps give it its shine. The Iron Man figure also has LEDs equipped in its eyes, arc reactor, palms and display base to effectively make it a rather large lamp in addition to being a figure. (more…)

AMD G-Series X embedded chips tip company’s advance beyond PCs

With the AMD Embedded G-Series System-on-Chip, AMD will first be working with a single-chip solution that’ll employ both AMD Radeon 8000 Series graphics and their “Jaguar” CPU architecture at once. This announcement of AMD’s SOC design marks the company’s rumored significant push beyond the PC industry for intelligent devices of all kinds.

amd

Noting that they’ve got their eyes on intelligent machines from smart TVs to interactive digital signage, “informational kiosks”, and set-top boxes, AMD has also made it clear that they’re interested in jumping in on what’s called “Surround Computing”. This term is identified by AMD’s Mark Papermaster as an era where computers become a seamless part of the daily lives of human beings.

Though AMD does mention through Papermaster that this Surround Computing era includes mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, the G-Series being presented this season is being shown as extremely versatile, working even with deeply embedded and/or “headless” systems. These headless systems work without any input devices or displays, this requiring no graphics solution onboard – CPU power at the heart, that is.

With this first AMD Embedded G-Series SOC, the company supports both Windows Embedded 8 and Linux while working with a range of applications: electronic gaming systems, SMB storage, industrial control and automation, IP-TV, set-top boxes, digital signage, medical and network appliances. AMD has sent word that they’ll have general availability for manufacturers of the AMD G-Series SOC in the second quarter of this year while market-ready products will be appearing soon after.

Have a peek at the AMD tag portal for more information on this series as it appears and watch closely as the company continues to advance beyond the standard PC market. This is an significant time for AMD as they continue to make interesting business moves and announce products at a rate not often seen by the company – stay tuned!

BlackBerry Q10 priced at $249 on two-year contract in US

BlackBerry Q10 priced at $249 on twoyear contract in US

BlackBerry just confirmed to us the target pricing of its upcoming QWERTY smartphone in the US, and the quick takeaway is that keyboards don’t come cheap. According to company representatives, the Q10 is intended to be sold for $249 on a two-year contract, which positions it as more expensive than the Galaxy S 4, iPhone 5, One and Z10. Now, the one hiccup in this equation is that carriers may turn around and do whatever pricing shenanigans they please, but outside of special promotions, you can rightfully expect the Q10 to be one of the most expensive on-contract smartphones of the day. With so few compelling QWERTY handsets on the market, however, it seems that BlackBerry is hoping you’ll value a keyboard more than your hard-earned dollar. If it the company’s correct, that’ll mean a lot more profit. If not, well… you know the rest.
