What can the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 do?

Are you in the market for a spanking new tablet? If you are one who jives with South Korean conglomerate Samsung, then you might want to check out the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. Having hit the market recently, those of you who are still sitting on the fence before making a purchase decision might want to read more about what it can do. For starters, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 was specially developed to offer convenience at the forefront, similar to how a personal assistant is there to offer assistance at all times. Not only that, the S Note application is also the right place to be as users are able to write down their thoughts, ideas, and diary entries, regardless of where they are, throwing in a bunch of cute icons along the way.

Take for instance, when there is the presence of the drawing mode icon, one is able to change the pen type, color of the pen, and the pen thickness and draw a heart on the word ‘my boyfriend’ (this is just an example), which would definitely go a long way in personalizing the entire user experience. Not only that, the voice memo feature would also pave the way for voice recording capability.

There is a wide range of S Note templates, ranging from meeting notes to graphs, recipes, and travel diary, which would make the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 the ideal companion for just about any situation. The presence of the Samsung S Pen has evolved to increase everyday usability and enhance creative expression, being that advanced that users do not even have to touch the screen in order to figure out just which icon is used for what. Thanks to the inclusion of Air View, all users need to do is hover their S Pen over the screen in order to check out previews of videos and photos, and to figure out what is inside the file or application in full.

So, is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 the perfect tablet for you?

Sony Xperia Tablet Z finally gets a US ship date

Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z is finally up for preorder in the US, the 10.1-inch Android slate priced from $499.99 after having been unexpected delayed. Announced at Mobile World Congress back in February as the waterproof big-screen sibling of the Xperia Z smartphone, the Tablet Z is expected to ship in the US come May 24.

Two capacity versions of the slate are offered, with the cheapest having 16GB of internal storage while the more expensive model getting 32GB. That carriers a $100 premium, however, but does also give the option of a white casing; the 16GB Tablet Z is only available in black.

Either way, you’re getting what Sony says is the thinnest Android tablet around, as well as being the thinnest 10.1-inch tablet. In fact, it’s just 0.27-inches thick and 16.9 ounces in weight, though Sony claims the tempered glass display and glass-polymer chassis keep it sturdy and flex-free.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z hands-on:

That’s something we noticed in our hands-on with the Xperia Tablet Z, along with the impressive display. Although it falls short of the sheer number of pixels the Nexus 10 offers, the WUXGA LCD TFT panel – and Sony’s own Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 under the hood – looks incredible.

Sony’s track record with Android tablets has been mediocre, but the success of the waterproof Xperia Z smartphone may indicate its slate sibling could find renewed favor among tableteers. It’s up for preorder now at Sony’s official store.

Rockstar Giving Fans A Chance To Be Part Of GTA 5

Rockstar Giving Fans A Chance To Be Part Of GTA 5We know that Rockstar has officially announced GTA 5, and if you’ve ever wanted to be part of a video game, the developer is giving gamers the opportunity to have their likeness incorporated into the upcoming game. Rockstar has recently announced their Epsilonism website where gamers will be able to enter their details as well as upload a photo of themselves to be given the chance to be in the running to be part of GTA 5. Unfortunately only 5 people out of everyone will be chosen to be put into the game, meaning that considering the huge fan base that the GTA franchise has, your chances of getting picked could be very slim! It is also not known as to what sort of characters you might end up as. Would you play a big role in the game, or could you be merely an NPC walking around on the streets? Either way if you’re not that fussed, head on over to Rockstar’s Epsilonism website for the details.

Call Of Duty: Ghosts Teaser Website Launched

Call Of Duty: Ghosts Teaser Website LaunchedWord on the street has it that come 1st of May, Call of Duty: Ghosts will be revealed. If you cannot wait until the 1st of May, it seems that Call of Duty: Ghosts’ publisher, Activision, has launched a teaser site for the upcoming game. Perhaps to gauge the number of players who are interested, and perhaps to help spread the word around, the teaser site is asking fans of the series to link their Facebook and Twitter accounts to the page and to send out messages notifying their friends or followers about the upcoming game. Eventually a mosaic on the website (pictured above) will be filled and will eventually reveal an image, presumably the mask worn by the character Ghost.

Not much is known about the game at this point, although previous leaks have suggested that it could see an end of the year launch, and could launch across a variety of platforms such as the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and even Nintendo’s Wii U. In any case if you’re interested in seeing what Activision has to announce, head on over to the website (whose URL has enough characters to spell “Ghosts”) where hopefully more will be revealed in due time.

Diablo 3 For Console Goes Up For Pre order, Comes With Exclusive Pre order BonusGood news PlayStation gamers! We know that you guys know that Blizzard has announced that Diablo 3 would be making its way onto the PlayStation console, and if you’ve been eagerly waiting for the game, it looks like Blizzard has announced that the game is finally up for pre-order, and even better news is that if you were to pre-order the game, you will be able to get your hands on an exclusive pre-order bonus. This bonus is none other than an artifact, a helm actually, that will give players bonus experience points that will allow them to level up faster. Dubbed the Infernal Helm, as you can see in the image above, it is actually a pretty cool looking armor that gives the impression that it is smoldering. Blizzard did not announce when the game would be released, unfortunately, but for those who don’t mind waiting, head on over to Blizzard’s website to place your pre-order or to learn more about it.

Dinosaur roots research fuels mass-extinction fears

The Dinosaur Age began in Tanzania and Zambia, following a tumultuous species shuffle in the aftermath of a mass-extinction event 252.3m years ago, new fossil discoveries have suggested. 90-percent of all life on Earth was wiped out, a new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reports, with it taking around 10m years before the precursors of dinosaurs as we know of them began to emerge.

pre-dinosaur

One such example was silesaurs, small herbivores more akin in size to a dog than the “terrible lizards” of Jurassic Park, but actually closely related to dinosaurs. Most common among silesaur fossil remains is the Asilisaurus kongwe, study co-author Kennet Angielczyk told Discovery, but in fact it’s another of the same species that provides the most likely link with what came after them.

That animal is in face Nyasasaurus parringtoni, again similar in size to a large dog, but with an extended tail that fossils suggest was around 5-feet in length. “Nyasasaurus is either the oldest known dinosaur or the closest known relative of dinosaurs,” Angielczyk says, “but we can’t completely rule out either option because the material is rather fragmentary.”

Angielcyzk and his team gathered fossil evidence in seven trips, with the bone fragments spread across Tanzania, Zambia, and Antarctica. However, while the fossils have allowed a greater insight into how dinosaur species developed, the actual nature of the mass-extinction event itself remains unclear.

One possibility is that an extreme form of global warming caused a mass species reduction – believed to involve an 80-percent decrease in four-legged species found in the majority of the areas studied – though other possibilities include volcanic activity or a meteorite strike.

Significantly shifting geographies means that the spread of early dinosaurs is made even more complex, but researchers on the team argue that the most important aspect of the discovery might instead be a cautionary tale for humans today. Should a similarly colossal mass-extinction event take place now, evidence of species development suggests it could take anywhere from 8m years for animal life to begin to recover.

Samsung starts production of 20nm 4Gb LPDDR3 mobile DRAM

Samsung starts production of 20nm 4Gb LPDDR3 RAM, promises speed and performance boosts

What is it that you want to know about the RAM in your mobile device? Usually, how much of it there is, and if you’re a little more demanding of your hardware, maybe what type it is, too. Well, folk in the latter category might interested to know that Samsung has started production of 20nm 4Gb LPDDR3 mobile DRAM. As is the nature of smaller, more efficient components, the new chips promise to be faster (2,133 Mbps per pin, over LPDDR2’s 800 Mbps), and — so claims Samsung — a 20 percent drop in power consumption. With just four of these new chips, OEMs can have a 2GB offering that’s still just a slick 0.8mm in height.

The MirrorCase For The iPad Allows You Take Snap Photos Discreetly

The MirrorCase For The iPad Allows You Take Snap Photos DiscreetlyAre you looking for a great way to capture your lectures on video so that you can review the class again once it is over? While holding up your phone or tablet can get pretty tiring, not to mention the shake will probably make the video rather hard to watch, this is where the MirrorCase comes in. As you can see in the image above, the MirrorCase has been designed for the iPad where your tablet lies on the table propped up at an angle, and thanks to the built-in mirror, it will allow you to capture both videos and photographs even at that angle.

While it is not recording or capturing, the MirrorCase will double up as your regular folio-style case for the iPad and will come with a kickstand as well. Of course there are more mischievous things one could get up to, such as capture videos or photographs of people without them knowing, even if they were to look directly at you! Of course this isn’t one of the prescribed features of the case, but you could if you wanted to. Priced at $79.95, the MirrorCase is available for purchase via its website.

Xbox 720 will do without IllumiRoom at launch, Microsoft confirms

Microsoft’s IllumiRoom technology, which turns your living room into an augmented reality gaming arena by expanding graphics from the confines of your TV, won’t be baked in time for the next-gen Xbox, the company has confirmed. The projection technology, which uses Kinect to digitally map a room and then digitally overlay dynamically changing graphics linked to the on-screen entertainment, will be shown off in concept form this year, Microsoft Research’s Hrvoje Benko and Brett Jones confirmed to Engadget, but is nowhere near ready for commercial release.

microsoft_illumiroom-580x320

In fact, IllumiRoom won’t get shown to the public until Siggraph in July, missing out E3 2013 in the process. The tech is “working well” according to the researchers, but it’s still in the early stages of development.

Microsoft has been dripping details around IllumiRoom for some months now, after surprising attendees at Samsung’s CES press conference back in January with a demo of the augmented reality system. Currently pairing a Kinect for Windows with a basic projector and a PC, IllumiRoom first automatically maps the user’s living room and then creates a 3D wireframe which can be used to extend play off of the screen and into the surrounding area.

So, explosions on-screen can cause ripples that spread out around your TV cabinet and beyond, while fireballs can spread outside the limits of your screen. Alternatively, IllumiRoom can be used to heighten the mood of the game, creating virtual snow, for instance, that can not only fall within the room but accumulate on shelves and tables.

Microsoft Research’s attentions aren’t just on gaming, however, despite the obvious applications for Xbox. The IllumiRoom system could also be used to make TV and movies more immersive; in a newly released paper for the CHI 2013 conference this week, the team shows a DIY dual-field-of-view camcorder prototype which simultaneously captures the core video and its extended surroundings, the latter to be projected around the TV.

Nonetheless, while it won’t be ready any time soon, IllumiRoom’s primary purpose looks to be extending the immersive gameplay of the next-gen “Xbox 720″, an obvious way to build value into the console in the face of low-cost casual gaming on smartphones and tablets. Considering Kinect followed on after the Xbox 360 had already been in the market for some time, there’s nothing to say that IllumiRoom couldn’t arrive after Xbox 720 has bedded down into living rooms, providing a mid-life refresh of sorts.
