Leaked Windows 8.1 build points to the Start button’s return

Leaked Windows 81 shots point show Start button, wallpaper on home screen

When we last got a peek at Windows 8.1 “Blue,” most of the updates lurked under the surface: rumors of a Start button revival didn’t pan out. Flash forward to Paul Thurrott’s screenshots of a newer build, however, and it’s a different story. The leaked code has the Start button once more occupying a spot on the desktop taskbar, with behavior reportedly like what we’ve seen with Stardock’s Start 8 utility. More throwbacks also appear to be in store. Users can now transfer their desktop wallpaper to the Start screen, and the storied boot-to-desktop option is available — if turned off by default. Microsoft hasn’t acknowledged the existence of these (or any) Windows 8.1 features, but the rapidly approaching Build conference suggests that we’ll learn more in the near future.

Renzo’s ‘Mi Favorita’ Lands ‘The Next Prince Royce’ On The Billboard Chart

With his new single “Mi Favorita,” which has already been a big hit on radio and even landed in the top 20 in Billboard’s Tropical genre list, Renzo has already been dubbed the next Prince Royce. The more you listen to his catchy new tune the better it gets.

Born in Queens, New York and later moving to the Dominican Republic at the age of eight, Renzo has a musical influence that has allowed him to bring together two of his favorite genres: R&B and merengue. Renzo initially got into dancing through his idols, the great Michael Jackson and Usher. He would copy Michael with the hope of one day being a dancer like him, but at 12 years old he got into singing and thanks to his dad, realized the talent he had.

“About a year and a half ago I decided to focus on my music and make it my project,” said the 22-year-old.

Police in California are asking for help locating a 15-year-old Antelope Valley girl who has been missing since Sunday night. Her family fears she may have run off with a man she met online.

Distraught grandfather Bill Guild told The Huffington Post that his granddaughter, Ashley Marie Lewin, was last seen over Memorial Day weekend.

“We had a great weekend, and she came in to say goodnight to us about 10 p.m. Sunday. She said, ‘Goodnight grandpa and grandma I love you.’ We got up the next morning and she wasn’t here,” Guild said.

Outlawed In Pakistan (VIDEO)

Kainat Soomro was 13 when she said men from her village kidnapped her on her way back from school. She says they drugged her, brutally gang-raped her and kept her in captivity for three days until she finally managed to escape. Back in the village, the men denied her story. The town’s tribal elders declared Kainat “outlawed” for having sex outside marriage and tried to convince the girl’s family to kill her themselves. Kainat’s brother and father refused, however, and the family started a long battle in Pakistan’s courts.

Habiba Nosheen and Hilke Schellmann followed Kainat and the men she accused for several years, capturing the unfolding of the legal battles and the daily struggles of the Soomro family in the PBS/Frontline documentary, “Outlawed in Pakistan.” Through the lens of Kainat’s life, the filmmakers shed light on women’s lives in traditional Pakistani communities and the changing narrative on women’s rights in the country.

Roughly 46 percent of all female murders in Pakistan in 2009 were in the name of “honor,” Schellman and Nosheen note in an article for The Atlantic. More than 600 of these “honor killings” were reported by the press, though the actual number is likely much higher.

KFC Opens In Mongolia As The Nation’s First Ever Western Fast Food Chain

Mongolia, a land once synonymous with isolation and rural hardship, is at the beginning of a transformation. Newly tapped mines beneath the Gobi desert and elsewhere, rich in copper, coal and gold, have resulted in a surge of wealth that has brought electricity, cars and now, the nation’s first Western fast food chain: KFC.

The outpost, located in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, opened Wednesday with fanfare that attracted the U.S. ambassador to Mongolia and the country’s trade minister. Muktesh “Mickey” Pant, CEO of KFC’s parent company, Yum! Restaurants International, estimated that the eatery served up to 3,000 people between Wednesday’s grand opening and a soft opening the day before.

“I think for Mongolia, [KFC] is like a sign of arrival in a sense,” Pant told The Huffintgon Post, adding that he had also met with the country’s prime minister, Norovyn Altankhuyag. “It’s unusual for a fast food concept to attract that kind of interest,” he mused.
