Jim Lee Will Paint Your Wall for $25K: Do They Sell Bags and Boards for Walls?

Jim Lee is one of the most famous comic book artist and writers of my generation. From his breakout work with the X-Men books, co-founding Image Comics and now working at DC Comics, Lee is also certainly one of the most important figures in the comic book industry. And for $25,000 (USD), this highly talented big shot will go to your house and paint your wall. Or whichever wall you want.

jim lee dc comics we can be heroes fundraiser

Lee won’t see a penny of your money though. He’s offering it as a reward for DC Entertainment’s Indiegogo fundraiser, We Can Be Heroes. To celebrate Superman’s 75th anniversary, DC is raising funds to help alleviate hunger in the Horn of Africa. They are offering various rewards, from digital copies of Superman comics to paperbacks signed by their respective writers or artists. There’s even a Superman-themed bedroom set. The biggest reward of course, is the aforementioned Jim Lee mural. That’s like hiring Mark Zuckerberg to write your Computer Science project. Or me to sleep on your bed.

So auction off your old comics and head to Indiegogo to donate. The proceeds will be split between the International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps and Save the Children. As of this writing the fundraiser has raised about $55,000 with only 13 days left. That Jim Lee pledge will go a long way towards fulfilling their goal.

Shark-repellant rash guard makes you look unappetizing

Supposedly, this doesn't look tasty to sharks.

(Credit: BoatsToGo.com)

The United States had 53 shark attacks in 2012, according to a University of Florida report. Many people find sharks both fearful and fascinating, but their presence in the water doesn’t deter surfers and swimmers from jumping into the ocean waves.

Sometimes, people look like prey to sharks. One company is taking an unusual approach to preventing shark attacks with the creation of a shark-repellant rash guard. The form-fitting top does a lot of the usual rash guard things, like offer UV protection and wick moisture. What’s different is the design on it.

Some shark attack theories are based on humans in wetsuits looking a lot like seals to sharks. Delicious, thinks the shark. Oh no, says the human. The $29 rash guard from BoatsToGo.com uses a pattern seen on Lion Fish, sea creatures that sharks try to avoid due to their venomous nature.

Google refreshes Maps and Earth with 800,000 megapixels of new satellite imagery

Google refreshes Maps and Earth with 800,000 megapixels of new satellite imagery

It’s not easy being a satellite; permanent imaging gear becomes outdated mere months after launch, and Mother Nature is constantly caught photobombing close-ups, throwing naughty clouds between a lens and the shot. All that makes for some pretty inconsistent online viewing. Fortunately, Google’s stepped in to set things straight, combining the magic of photo stitching with the capture power of a brand-spanking-new Landsat 8. The result is a cloud-free planet, enabling millions of web-equipped “explorers” to realize improved aerial views as seen from 438 miles above sea level. It’s pretty spectacular, and it’s about friggin’ time.

Click away in the air with Thanko finger mouse

(Credit: Thanko)

We’ve seen plenty of gestural alternatives to the standard wireless mouse, but here’s one that’s lightweight enough to hang on your index finger.

The Flick Finger Mouse from the indefatigable gadget magicians at Japan’s Thanko lets you manipulate a cursor by pointing in the air and clicking with your thumb.

Designed for Windows, Mac, and Android, the pointer has two modes: laser and air. In the former it works as an ordinary mouse, but set it to “air” and it’s no longer bound to your desk.

Equipped with a high-efficiency gyro sensor, the gadget clips to your index finger with a plastic ring and hangs on the side.
