Facebook is cooking up its own socially-enabled Flipboard alternative in the hope of filling the gap left by Google’s near-death Reader, it’s reported, aggregating news and other content both from publishers and shared by friends. So long Google Reader, hello… Facebook? The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Zuckerberg and co are working on a service that "displays content from Facebook users and publishers in a new visual format tailored for mobile devices".
O2 Ireland has been sold to Three parent Hutchison Whampoa Group, in an €850m ($1.1bn) deal that will see Three surge in subscribers to around 2m active users. O2 Ireland parent Telefonica described the deal as part of its “proactive management” [pdf link] of its portfolio, with the payment used to offset the carrier’s financial
Snapjoy has announced that it’ll be shuttering all of its services a mere six months after being acquired by cloud colossus Dropbox. In a blog post, the company said photos can no longer be imported into Snapjoy and the iPhone app is henceforth unavailable. If you’ve got images stored on the site, you’ll have exactly a month to get them downloaded, since after July 24th, “all photos and data will be permanently deleted.” The same thing happened to Audiogalaxy shortly after its acquisition by Dropbox, and of course other big fish like Google and Twitter are well known for similar behavior after eating smaller fish — though at least we saw the #Music fruits of Twitter’s buyout shortly after it happened. On the other hand, we’ve yet to see Dropbox do anything with Audiogalaxy, so we hope the defunct apps will be resurrected in some form soon.

The Young Turks is the largest online news show in the world. We have just crossed the Million/Billion mark. We have over one million subscribers and one billion views on our YouTube channel. There are only 25 non-music channels in the Million/Billion Club. We are the only news channel in the group.
The average age of CNN’s audience is 68. Isn’t that amazing? The average CNN viewer is retired. When you go over to Fox News, it’s even worse. The average O’Reilly viewer is 71! Only 12% of his audience is in the coveted 25-54 age bracket (this is the demo that advertisers find appealing, so everyone on cable news cares more about this number than anything else). This so-called big shot is basically doing his show out of a senior citizens center. 71!!!
Though Teresa tries to put up a strong front, it’s obvious that the year of silence has been painful. She finally confronts Joe … by standing over him as he gets ready to bench press. Now, the brother she hasn’t seen in oh-so-long is literally talking to her lady garden.

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen the Season 6 finale of AMC’s “Mad Men,” titled “In Care Of.”
Could Don Draper finally be growing up?
Most fathers are not a mystery to their children; most adults are not quite so hobbled by tortured pasts. But most people are not Don Draper, who, in the course of “Mad Men’s” six seasons, has tried to shield his kids from the most basic truths about himself. Where he’s from, how he grew up, what kind of life he had: Those were all things that he lied about, to co-workers, clients and those closest to him. But as viewers saw in the show’s Season 6 finale (which I wrote about here), Don is in the process of shedding that false skin.

If you weren’t able to scrounge up enough coin to snap up the last few Apple I computers to be auctioned off, another chance to score one — and empty your bank account — is headed your way. Starting today, Christie’s will be auctioning a functional Apple I until July 9, with a starting bid of $300,000. If last month’s record-breaking $671,400 sale of a similar rig is anything to go by, this machine may rake in more than its estimated $500,000 value. The owner of the Apple I, who picked it up over three decades ago in a swap, modified it with a keyboard, monitor and a tape deck for storage – in other words, just the motherboard is original. Those more interested in window shopping can ogle the classic hardware at Mountain View’s Computer History Museum beginning tomorrow.
