PETALUMA, Calif. — A huge-headed, duck-footed mix of beagle, boxer and basset hound was the upset winner at the 25th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest.
Walle (WAHL-ee), a 4-year-old mutt from Chico, Calif., who was entered at the last minute, was judged Friday as the most unsightly of 30 dogs at the Northern California competition.

Agencies, executives and thought leaders from around the world gathered in the French Riviera this week to celebrate the best in advertising and communication, and to honor campaigns that span television, print, radio, social media, mobile and more.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the Festival received 35,765 entries from 92 countries. The big winners were campaigns that set aside the hard-sell and focused on bringing thought-provoking and entertaining content to their audiences.

Apple could furnish the 5S with a better camera.

Word is that the iPhone 5S is a minor upgrade. But if it’s got a better camera, it’s major.
Smartphone camera competition is getting stiff. And a phone’s photo shooting prowess is increasingly the focus at dedicated camera review sites.
CNET Reviews recently did a shootout of the cameras on the Galaxy S4, HTC One, and iPhone 5.
The iPhone 5 fared well, though it was a close contest with the S4 in some areas. The HTC One was good in low-light conditions.
HTC, in fact, is a good example of a company trying to push the envelope on camera tech. The One has an Ultrapixel camera (see image at bottom) with larger sensors that pull in more light, boosting low-light shots.
Meanwhile, the Samsung S4 boasts a 13 megapixel sensor versus the iPhone 5’s 8MP, which makes a difference in photo size, as CNET Reviews points out.

BAGHDAD — A suicide bombing inside a Shiite mosque during evening prayers and other attacks north of Baghdad killed 23 people in Iraq on Saturday, as officials announced preliminary results for local elections in two provinces that showed the bloc of the country’s speaker of parliament in the lead.
The attacks are the latest in a wave of killing that has claimed more than 2,000 lives since the start of April. It is the bloodiest and most sustained spate of violence to hit Iraq since 2008.

The moon is far from old hat. In fact, after exactly four years on the job, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is just scratching its jagged surface. The dearth of info on our celestial neighbor isn’t stopping us from trying to send personal space messages to a far-flung star system, though. Why?
