Steve Jobs Explains How Every Tech Innovation Will Be Lost to History

It’s amazing the way a nice piece of tech can radically change the world over just a few years. Just decades ago, everything changed when we started putting computers in homes, and it changed again when we started putting them in pockets. But regardless of how revolutionary these innovations are, they’re gone incredibly fast. It’s a poignant observation, and who could have put it better than Steve Jobs.

Street Charge solar powered charging stations in New York

We live in a day and age where having a smartphone is more or less a compulsory device to own, and a tablet is a bonus. The thing is, you would need to keep those gadgets juiced up every day in order to maximize their use, and while I am quite sure that most of us do charge up our smartphones and tablets each night, there are moments when our memory fails us, and we end up at work with a smartphone which is on its last legs where its battery level is concerned. If you are a New Yorker, happy days are here, especially with word that solar power market leader Goal Zero working alongside AT&T and Brooklyn design studio PENSA, to roll out an environmentally friendly solution to charging woes by offering public solar powered charging stations that they have called Street Charge.

Street Charge would arrive in a striking and modern design, where it will be powered by the latest in solar panel and battery technology from Goal Zero. Folks can conveniently juice up their handsets as well as other handheld, thanks to the integrated USB ports and charging tips. The solar panels as well as lithium batteries have been elegantly incorporated into individual stations to make sure that there is always enough energy to power up a thirsty device, regardless of whether the sun is beating down on New Yorkers unrelentingly, or when the moon is full.

Joe Atkin, President and CEO of Goal Zero, said, “We’re excited to team up with AT&T and Pensa to help make New York a little greener and solar power a little more accessible. Nearly half of all Americans own a smartphone and the amount of time we spend on handheld devices has increased dramatically. All too often, we hear the dreaded low-battery beep and it happens at the most inconvenient times. Street Charge will fix that.”

The prototype was first tested in Brooklyn last summer, and it looks set to kick off something big and new in the near future.

Amazon’s Storyteller Helps You Turn Your Script into a Storyboard

You might be a budding writer with a script for what you think could be the next big thing in movies. Storyteller provides a digital backlot, acting troupe, prop department and assistant editor – everything you need to bring your story to life.

gTar opens up iOS and Javascript SDK, adds Ableton Live compatibility

gTar opens up iOS and Javascript SDK, adds Ableton compatibility

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything out of the gTar camp — nearly half a year in fact, when the company announced pre-orders the week of CES. This morning the Kickstarted instrument manufacturer broke the silence by announcing that it’ll be opening up its SDK for both iOS and Javascript, letting developers create apps for browsers and Apple’s mobile operating system. The learning-friendly instrument already has a bit of a head start, as it’s presently compatible with more than 150 apps, according to the company. Compatibility also extends to Ableton Live, via an “unofficial custom script” that makes it possible to use the gTar’s fretboard as a control panel for the popular DJ software.

Intel joins Alliance for Wireless Power’s Board of Directors

DNP Intel joins Alliance for Wireless Power

The Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), a consortium working to establish a new wireless charging standard, hasn’t been around for terribly long — Samsung and Qualcomm joined forces to create the organization just over a year ago — but it’s planning to make waves as quickly as possible. One of the most effective ways to do exactly that, then, would be to persuade large players in the mobile industry to join along, and Intel certainly meets that qualification. The company announced this afternoon that it has officially joined the A4WP’s Board of Directors. This move doesn’t guarantee that we’ll be soon seeing Intel-powered devices with built-in wireless charging capabilities, but it’s at least a solid indication that the folks in Santa Clara are mindful of (and intrigued by) the potential that near-field magnetic resonance tech holds.
