Tiger Shark Warplane Ceiling Fan looks like a P-40 Warhawk crashed through your roof

When I was a kid, one of my dreams was to become a pilot. I blame the movie Top Gun for most of that desire, but my heart wasn’t necessarily set on an F-14 Tomcat, anything that could fly was good enough for me. Airplane, helicopter, space ship, it really didn’t matter. Naturally, this meant that I had a lot of toys of these various flying vehicles. While these things made me happy, I’d have loved just about anything flying-related in my room, including furniture.

If you have a kid that’s anything like I was, then I would highly recommend checking out this cool Tiger Shark Warplane Ceiling Fan. When I first looked at it, I realized just how brilliant the design was. The fan is designed to look like the nose of an old P-40 fighter, which, if you know your jets, had a three-bladed propeller on it. They captured many of the details of the fighter, right down to the shape and coloring of the blades.

Other than the resemblance to a World War II fighter jet, there really isn’t that much that sets this ceiling fan apart from the rest. IT has a 3-speed motor, and uses a 60-watt candelabra bulb for illuminating your room. The $261 price tag is a rather hefty premium over your standard ceiling fan, but can you really put a price on a child’s happiness?

This Concrete Ball Was Supposed to Be the Motel of the Future

In 1935, an inventor from Indiana devised a new way to build what he believed was the motel of the future. If William E. Urschel had had his way, tourists around the world would all be relaxing in these concrete golf-ball-looking structures by now. It’s a good thing he didn’t get his way.

It may be hard to believe, but Google+ turned two years old today. Just two short years ago, we were treated with Google’s second attempt at a social network, one that we thought would bite the dust yet again, but here we are today, still basking in the existence of Google+, which now has even

Angus King On Edward Snowden: ‘I’m Moving More And More Towards The Treason End Of The Scale’

Another United States senator has said he thinks the actions of National Security Agency whistle-blower Edward Snowden may constitute treason, just one day after White House officials expressed additional concern over just how much information the leaker has in his possession.

Senator Angus King (I-Maine) told The Takeaway on Friday that he feels treason could be a fitting description for Snowden’s decision to leak information about sweeping U.S. surveillance efforts.

“I’ve been thinking about this as the story has unfolded, and at first I thought [Snowden] was trying to raise a public debate about important issues, and that maybe he’s more like a whistle-blower,” King said. “As it’s gone on, I’m moving more and more towards the treason end of the scale. There were other ways to bring this information to light.”

Leeds turning telephone boxes into free WiFi kiosks, crowdsource your memories for posterity

Leeds turning telephone boxes into free WiFi kiosks, crowdsource your memories for posterity

Public WiFi projects don’t normally involve antique restoration and historical crowd sourcing, but that’s exactly what’s going on in Leeds. Local telecoms company aql is renovating Giles Gilbert Scott’s iconic red telephone boxes in the area, adding solar panels, networking equipment and giving them a blue paint-job. While the boxes will be locked to keep the wireless gear secure, the company has added touch screens to the outside, letting locals make emergency calls and leave messages that share their memories about the area — a better fate for the hardware than inspiring this portable monstrosity.
