Hands-on with Hyperkin’s Retron 5: emulating nine classic consoles with help from Android
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo might be all about the next generation of gaming hardware, but not in Hyperkin’s E3 booth: these guys are looking backwards. We dropped by to check out the Retron 5, the outfit’s latest machine to traverse the library of older gaming titles. All told, this iteration strolls through half a dozen hardware cycles, offering compatibility for a full nine video game systems. It’s more than a simple hardware emulator, however — this machine offers save states, cheats and visual filters too.

In case you hadn’t noticed, “next-gen” is sort of the theme of E3 2013, and the term applies to far more than just video game consoles. Take headphones, for instance — Able Planet tells us that it’s developed what it believes to be the next generation in personal audio: a haptic headset outfitted with ViViTouch technology. Put simply, these things subtly vibrate with an audio source, but in a non-distracting way. The company first showed us this device back at CES 2013, but that prototype was unnamed, rough around the edges and had limited control options. Today, AblePlanet introduced us to the final prototype for what it now calls its Linx Fusion headset. We gave the cans a listen to see what had changed.

Huawei Ascend P6 specs leaked: 1.5GHz quad-core, 6.18mm thick, 4.7-inch 720p display
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe’ve seen enough images of the Huawei Ascend P6 to know that the thing exists, but the speculation on its specs hasn’t been confirmed by any stretch. Smartphone rumormeister @evleaks has a few specs to throw our way: the P6 will supposedly feature a 4.7-inch 720p display, a remarkably thin 6.18mm profile, 1.5GHz quad-core (likely in-house) processor and Emotion UI (seen above). Additionally, we’re now expecting to see an 8MP BSI rear camera with a 4cm macro, accompanied by an impressive 5MP front-facing cam with a feature called Face Enhance. We’re just a week away from having official confirmation of all these specs, but this is just enough to tie you over until then — or, until the next leak appears online, at the very least.

Pentax Q7 purportedly leaks with three color options, larger sensor than Q10
Posted in: Today's ChiliPentax camera launches always seem to be colorful affairs, and if new images are to be believed, a multi-hued mirrorless model with a retro bent will soon arrive from the outfit. According to serial leaker Digicame-info, a new Q7 model will be unveiled with a larger 1/1.7-inch sized sensor than the 1/2.3-inch CMOS-packing Q10, and come with a kit zoom or optional standard prime lens on July 5th. Until we hear it from the source, though, it’d be wise to hold off on buying matching silver, black or yellow outfits.

Another Android console is getting pumped up and ready to hit the market, this time coming from the accessories organization known as Mad Catz. This is Project M.O.J.O., made to take on systems like OUYA and BlueStacks GamePop with Android inside a machine that connects to the user’s big-screen television for video. On the other
