Barnes and Noble axes Nook PC, Mac apps, directs you to Nook for Web instead

Barnes and Noble has been quietly erasing all mentions of its Nook for PC and Mac, but now we have the first official confirmation that both are no more. An official statement, reported by The Digital Reader, says that the company is no longer supporting software for Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X, and is directing users to switch to Nook for Web in its place. That, or you could always help prop up the company’s brick-and-mortar operations by purchasing some of these.

Flying fish: Sushi joint tries table delivery by drone

The sushi chopper delivers a meal.

All the cool kids are getting their munchies by air these days.

South African music fans are getting beer from the sky. A research group developed and tested the Burrito Bomber. Domino’s UK drafted an octocopter to deliver a couple of pepperoni pizzas. Now, all we need is sushi in flight to make this a bona fide trend. Looks like our order is up, up, and away.

Sushi chain YO! Sushi has introduced a “burger” made with rice patties and sushi-style ingredients like prawn, tofu katsu, and nori seaweed. The chain’s London restaurant in the Soho district decided the delivery method needed to be just as unusual as the food. Thus the “iTray” was invented. It’s a flying waiter outfitted with a special food tray and controlled by an iPad.

SleepPhones lets you sleep in peace

We are a sleep deprived society – most of us are dead tired by the time we arrive back home from work, and we want to do nothing better than to put our feet up, and start to unwind. Music would definitely help the situation, and the folks over at Firebox think that they have a unique and innovative solution in the form of the £34.99 SleepPhones. Dreams would never be the same again, as you get to enjoy the relaxing tunes of your choice without missing a beat.

The SleepPhones would come in extra small, small, medium, large and extra large sizes to fit just about any head, including Pinky and the Brain. Made out of soft and comfortable fleece, it comes with quality integrated headphones to deliver sweet audio to your ears, while doubling up as a handy sweatband. Not only that, it will also help do its bit to drown out snoring and other annoying noise so that you can clock up the mandatory 8 hours of sleep, waking up refreshed like never before the next morning.

Meta Wearable AR Computer Dev Kits: How Many Glasses Are We Supposed to Wear in the Future?

Earlier this year we heard about the Meta, an augmented reality computer in the shape of a pair of glasses. The company behind the computer took a page from the Oculus Rift team and also launched a Kickstarter for the Meta developer’s kit.

meta 1 augmented reality glasses developer kit

The fundraiser may not be aimed at end users, but it does reveal a bit more about the Meta. In the video below you’ll see that the consumer version of the glasses should be much more compact and much less dorky than the current prototype. The Meta projects its display up to 16 ft. away from the user at 960×540 resolution. Developers will initially use Unity 3D on Windows to write software for the Meta. They’ll be able to make use of the Meta’s gesture, finger and surface tracking as well as its depth and color data.

You’ll need to pledge at least $695(USD) on Kickstarter to get a Meta 1 dev kit as a reward. I’m really intrigued by the possibilities of this device, partly because I’m into card and board games right now. It would be nice to have more interactive board game. And also to not have to clean up the tokens and other pieces after each game.

HTC One coming to C Spire

HTC One coming to C Spire, eventually

While Samsung has launched the Galaxy S 4 through just about every US carrier under the sun, HTC has largely kept the One to the very largest American networks. That should change soon: C Spire has confirmed that it will carry the aluminum flagship, albeit only at a vague point in the “near future.” That’s a horrible tease, we know, although it’s good news for those who don’t want to give up a regional provider just to get a premium device.
