Here’s a brilliant experiment you can do at home if you’ve got yourself a lengthy chain of metal beads, and a container big enough to hold them. You just take one end of the chain out and drop it so that it drags the rest with it, and almost immediately you’ll see it rise up out of the container like it’s magically defying gravity.
Imgur Now Has a Meme Generator
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe internet’s (aka Reddit’s) favorite online image hosting service now has a built-in meme generator. This is the greatest thing to ever happen to Imgur or the worst. Either way, the workflow is fairly straightforward and even the dopiest of luddites can make their own memes now. Great. Grand. Wonderful!
Roku recently introduced a new remote for the Roku 3 that comes with a headphone jack on the side to watch shows and movies in private without bothering anyone else around. It appears that this same remote will be coming to Roku’s Streaming Stick, according to an FCC filing that details that new clicker. The
Ziphius Aquatic Drone: Sea Parrot
Posted in: Today's ChiliLast month we saw a drone that can both drive around and fly. It’s a shame it can’t run on water as well, because as the Ziphius shows, having a drone on water seems like a lot of fun. The Ziphius is an aquatic drone designed to be controlled via an Android or iOS device. It’s a lot like Parrot’s AR.Drone, except it swims. And it looks like a computer mouse. Or a badly designed bike seat.
The Ziphius has two brushless DC motors that let it zip up to 6mph, and can be controlled wirelessly up to about 300ft. away. It can send live video from its 720p front camera to the mobile device that you’re using as the remote control. Because it’s controlled by a mobile device, the drone’s functionality can be increased with a variety of apps. The video below shows an augmented reality racing game, while the basic Ziphius app will have quick sharing functions to YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Sadly its battery can’t keep up with the rest of the device, and can only last up to an hour per charge.
Pledge at least $245 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a Ziphius drone as a reward. I think the Ziphius is a lot of fun, but I hope all these fancy drones won’t mislead kids into letting their toys experience the world for them.

Meteor smartwatch by Kreyos
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhen it comes to the smartwatch industry, you could say that this is still a young market which is relatively untapped, but finding the correct killer combination of hardware as well as software is the secret recipe that has yet to be discovered. Sure, Android has their champion in the form of the Pebble timepiece, and there are also whispers that Apple might come up with an iOS-powered iWatch. Still, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, which is why the Meteor smartwatch by Kreyos is an interesting proposition. It is an Indiegogo project at the moment, and will play nice with Apple’s iOS, while boasting voice and gesture control support to boot.
The Meteor will feature a three-axis gyro, carry an accelerometer and other motion sensors which are capable of detecting things like wrist motion. The wrist motion detection can be customized so that you will be able to effect the right response with a movement which you are most comfortable with. Voice control would also come in handy during those moments when both of your hands are occupied.

As part of a recent ad campaign, Canadian beer company Molson Candian took a fridge full of its special adult beverage all around Europe to share with the thirsty masses. But there was a catch—the only way to unlock the boozy treasure was by scanning a Canadian passport. And though you may have already seen the commercial itself making the rounds these past few days, chances are you haven’t seen what’s actually the coolest part of the whole campaign—how a Canuck-specific cooler gets made.
Foxconn isn’t waiting around for rumors of an Apple smartwatch to come true — it’s building a timepiece of its own. The company has just shown iPhone-compatible wristwear that previews Facebook messages and phone calls while tracking the owner’s breathing and heart rate. Upgrades are also coming in the long run, such as a fingerprint reader that would lock down the wearer’s health data. Foxconn hasn’t discussed launch details for the watch, but it’s almost more of a symbol than a product — it represents the diversification of a business that still leans mostly on contract manufacturing for revenue.

There are "battle bots" and then there are "utter, one-sided destruction bots." The two-wheeled harbinger of destruction called Last Rites fits in that second category. Powered by an over-volted golf cart motor and wielding a spinning hammer-blade of doom, it’s really a force to behold. And the folks over at Distort caught it up close and personal, in slow motion no less.
