Scientists believe they may have stumbled upon a planet that currently circles its sun at twice the distance Pluto’s does ours. And should they be able to confirm that, yes, this is in fact a planet we’re dealing with, astronomers may have to redefine the entire way we think about planet formation.
T-Mobile’s “Zero Dollars Down” announcement takes another stab at game-changing
Posted in: Today's ChiliIf you’ve been following along with the way T-Mobile is attacking the mobile service provider market this year so far, you know that they are (at least appearing to be) doing a pretty good job of shaking things up. They started by introducing the “un-carrier” plans that tossed out the idea of a 2-year contract, added “JUMP!” to allow users to switch from one device to the next when new technology is introduced to the market without penalty (effectively), and this week aim to set another fire a their competitors’ feet with a zero cash down plan for every single service-providing device in their store.
So you’ll still be kicking out the full cost of any device you purchase, should you decide to team up with T-Mobile for a smartphone or tablet with this deal, but it won’t hurt your wallet quite as much as it would have otherwise had you purchased a device from T-Mobile outside this structure.
What T-Mobile has done with its pricing structure is to make the full cost of the phone itself apparent – this is in contrast with many major carriers who charge what appears to be a small amount of cash for a device connected to a 2-year contract, then having the rest of the cash included in the monthly service price as a sort of “hidden” cost. You won’t see it written in on your bill as a separate entity, but it’s there.
T-Mobile’s plan this summer – starting on the 27th of July (no end date yet stated) – includes what the company describes as “4G LTE smartphones, tablets, mobile hotspots and feature phones”, meaning you’re not going to be getting any free accessories any time soon. This does include the iPhone 5 16GB edition, but not the two larger internal storage sizes. It would appear at the moment that no other devices have such restrictions, including brand new devices for the carrier like the Nokia Lumia 925 and Sony Xperia Z.
Have a peek at the monthly payments and rack that price up all at once, and remind yourself – no matter what carrier you’re on, you’re going to eventually be paying several hundred dollars for that brand new smartphone. They’ll get it from you, one way or another.

With the launch of a new generation of video game consoles comes the assumption the latest and greatest are also going to be the biggest. Many gamers already believe both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be huge eyesores in their living room, dorm or bedroom, but Sony has taken it upon themselves to do a bit of comparing between the launch version of the PlayStation 4 and the launch version of the PlayStation 3. Starting tomorrow, T-Mobile will be waving the downpayment on hot phones like the iPhone 5 and Samsu
Posted in: Today's ChiliStarting tomorrow, T-Mobile will be waving the downpayment on hot phones like the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 "for a limited time." Usually those phones would cost you $150 and $100 down respectively. The catch? The downpayment will be incorporated into T-Mobile’s monthly device installment plan. Pay now or pay later—you decide.
Ultra-thin e-skin could lead to advances in medicine, cool wearable computing (video)
Posted in: Today's ChiliRemember the names Martin Kaltenbrunner and Takao Someya — that way, you’ll have someone to blame when kids start pointing and laughing at gadgets we consider high-tech today. Leading a team of University of Tokyo researchers, they have recently developed a flexible, skin-like material that can detect pressure while also being virtually indestructible. Think of the possibilities: with a thickness of one nanometer, this could be used to create a second skin that can monitor your vital signs or medical implants that you can barely feel, if at all. Also, temperature sensors could be added to make life-like skin for prosthetics… or even robots! Like other similar studies, however, the researchers have a long journey ahead before we see this super-thin material in medicine. Since it could lead to bendy gadgets and wearable electronics first, don’t be surprised if your children call iPhones “so 2013″ in the not-too-distant future.

Teens and politicians have so much in common.
They both like screeching “no” and jumping up and down. They both like drinking too much. And they both believe they are the Lord’s gift to sexting.
But while teens understand Snapchat, politicos can barely grasp the “snap” part.
So Conan O’Brien has created the Junk Squad, there to help politicians text or tweet their digitalia safely.
Thrust into existence by Anthony Weiner’s socially networked overexposure, the Junk Squad offers a 24-hour call-out service.

The connected house you can control from the internet or your smartphone? They might be called a smart homes, but some of them have some very dumb vulnerabilities. In fact, some of the houses made smart by a company called Insteon were insecure enough that a Forbes reporter could hack them from the comfort of her living room.

As scheduled, AT&T and Nokia have launched the Lumia 1020 this morning on AT&T’s website. It currently lists the device as only being available online, but the phone will be available in AT&T stores later today. The 1020 is Nokia’s latest flagship smartphone, sporting a 41-megapixel camera as its main feature.
The Lumia 1020 was put up for pre-order on the 16th, but if you didn’t end up reserving your own unit, it looks like you still may have some luck, as AT&T’s website isn’t listing the device as sold out yet. You’ll have your choice of color as well, as long as your favorite color is either yellow, black, or white.
The phone is priced at $299 after signing a new two-year contract (or $660 off-contract), which is quite a bit for a new smartphone even considering its revolutionary camera technology on the inside, which makes it one of the more expensive on-contract phones to own currently. However, if the 41MP camera is reeling you in, you should have no reason not to take the bait.
On top of the 1020′s 41MP camera, the device packs in a 4.5-inch display with a 1280×768 resolution. On the inside, there’s a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. And of course, topping it all off is a fresh copy of Windows Phone 8.
