Vibrating Bicycle Seat, ‘Happy Ride,’ Hits Sex Shop Shelves

As if biking wasn’t sexy enough already.

A sex toy company based in the U.K. has released a new sexvention — the Happy Ride, a vibrating bike seat cover.

The covers, created by SexShop365, position a small vibrator in the middle of the seat, offering the kind of “great pleasurable heights” more stimulating than a beautiful view or endorphins from a long ride.

A Fleet of Blimps Will Soon Serve as a Missile Shield Over Washington

A Fleet of Blimps Will Soon Serve as a Missile Shield Over Washington

A still-chilling consequence of post-9/11 America is that we remain all too aware of the fact that we could be attacked at any moment. And so with worst case scenarios in mind, the military is constantly upgrading our defense systems in increasingly creative ways. Washington DC is next in line. It’s getting blimps.

Washington Post: Russia may grant NSA leaker Edward Snowden formal entry

According to the Washington Post, Russia has decided to grant Edward Snowden permission to leave the Moscow airport. Though the NSA whistleblower has been offered asylum in Bolivia and Venezuela, he reportedly requested temporary asylum in the Eastern European country last week. While the Putin government didn’t approve Snowden’s application immediately, it’s refused to hand him over to the U.S. since he arrived in Shremetyevo airport from Hong Kong on June 23rd. It’s unclear if and when the country will approve the request, but Snowden’s Russian lawyer said his client’s unique legal situation would keep him in the transit zone for at least one more day. Stay tuned — we’ll be updating as more information becomes available.

Latest Gravity Trailer Is a Two-Minute Space Panic Attack

Our space movies tend to lean on externals for their frights; aliens, psychological horrors, more aliens. But if this latest trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity proves anything, it’s that space is scary as hell on its own. Especially when you’re drifting helplessly through it.

Hell freezes over: Sina Weibo now lets you post to Facebook

Image

For some strange reason, Sina Weibo’s always required folks to log in to view some of its posts, but now there’s more incentive for those who’ve yet to open a Weibo account. Announced yesterday, the website claims to be the first Chinese social networking platform to connect with Facebook — the irony being the latter is still banned in China, plus Tencent’s WeChat already beat Weibo on this one.

Anyhow, both new and existing overseas users (including those from Taiwan and Hong Kong) can now register their Facebook accounts on Weibo, thus letting them post Weibo messages to the former simultaneously. Understandably, it doesn’t work the other way round, but this should still somewhat help Weibo expand its user base of over 530 million.

As you can see in the above screenshots, this author took the new feature for a test drive and could only forward text-only Weibo posts to Facebook. That said, Sina’s press release states that through Facebook’s Graph API, Weibo users will eventually be able to also share images, videos, TV shows, music and mobile location to Zuckerberg World. For now, this Facebook integration is only available on the web client, but the Android and iOS clients will soon receive it as well. We’ve reached out to Sina to see what’s up with the Windows Phone version, so stay tuned.

Xbox One white dev console shown off: white is the new black

We’ve already seen the black version of the Xbox One, obviously, and that’s all we’ve been treated with recently. However, seeing as how the Xbox 360 has been available in both white and black, it would make sense for the Xbox One to go the same route, right? Well, it seems that may actually happen, thanks to a photo posted by a developer that reveals a white Xbox One developer console.

Af0kkQC

The white dev console could mean that a white version of the Xbox One will be on the way at some point, but no one really knows whether or not it’ll be available at launch or if it’ll come later in the console’s life cycle, similar to how a black Xbox 360 showed several years after the console’s initial launch.

The photo was originally posted on Reddit, and another developer chimed in to say that “the zebra ones were also earlier devkits. We’ve gone through several revisions since the original alpha kit (giant server case) and the current one we have looks like the launch version.” By “zebra”, he’s referring to dev kits that were in both black and white (these we probably see hit retail).

Overall, the white dev kit shown in the photo looks practically identical to the black version that we’ll see at launch, save for the power button, which is slightly different in this case, as well as the missing chrome trim around the disc slot. It seems that a white version is set for primetime, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft waited a bit before adding a new color to the lineup in order to boost sales.

Apple vs Google earnings show major differences in similarly popular companies

As Apple reports a record quarter for iPhone sales and an otherwise less-than-eventful quarter for hardware, Google rings the last bell they hope they’ll have to ring with a Motorola loss. How do the two compare other than in billions of dollars this past set of three months? Let’s have a peek!

googleapple

Google’s reported consolidated revenues for this past quarter rang in at $14.11 billion USD, this a 19% increase over the same quarter one year previous.

This includes a total of $998 million in revenue from Motorola alone – though as our Motorola earnings in Google earnings rundown shows, GAAP operating loss for Motorola headed upward to $342 million for this quarter, while non-GAAP operating loss went from $49 million to $218 million in the same quarters year-over-year – no small change to scoff at.

It’s important to note at this point that the two companies do not record earnings to be compared to one another specifically, and as such, this article should be taken at face value. Apple and Google create reports like these to send information out to their investors specifically – this battle is for entertainment alone.

Apple plays a very different game here than Google, creating their own hardware and software rather than chalking up wins and losses to a separate entity. While Google works with Motorola and will soon be releasing Moto X, the closest Google will have come yet to taking total control of a Motorola handset, there’s still a point at which the two entities are more separate than Apple is with its hardware/software combinations.

Apple’s quarterly revenue comes in at $35.3 billion, this up from $35 billion (without the .3 at the end) the same quarter one year ago.

Meanwhile Google’s operating expenses, other than the cost of revenues, were up at $4.92 billion for this quarter, while Apple’s were $3.82 billion. Net income for Apple rang in at $6.9 billion for the three month period while Google’s was $3.23 billion (and that’s non-GAAP).

While Google rings in the earnings bell for items like Advertising, Apple lets numbers be known on each individual piece of hardware they sell – iPhones, iPads, Mac, iPod, and Accessories. Will we see similar numbers in the future as Google continues with Motorola, especially with products like the Moto X? And what kind of one-on-one numbers will we see between the Moto X and the next iPhone, coming this Fall? We shall see!
