Zelda Wind Waker HD Has New Difficulty Mode, Says Amazon

Zelda Wind Waker HD Has New Difficulty Mode, Says AmazonRight at the beginning of this year, we managed to get word that the highly acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker game that proved to be one of the Nintendo GameCube’s enduring games would be getting a remake, where this particular remake would be headed for the Nintendo Wii U and will carry the title The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD for obvious reasons – and also to keep up with the times, I suppose. Well, the folks over at Amazon did share that The Wind Waker HD will come with a new difficulty mode, so it is not going to be a walk in the park even for seasoned Zelda fans.

Of course, I am quite sure that even for those who have completed The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker numerous times over on the Nintendo GameCube in the past, picking up the HD remake for the Wii U would still be worthwhile, since it looks great in the new and enhanced graphics, while there is also the Tingle Bottle feature that enables players to send Miiverse messages in bottles which will eventually wash up on shore. Well, we will just have to wait until this October for The Wind Waker HD to arrive on the Wii U and find out just how tough the new difficulty level is.

Fuel3D brings point-and-shoot 3D scanning prototype to Kickstarter

Image

As a seemingly endless stream of companies work to bring the world its first truly mainstream desktop 3D printer, a number of folks are attempting to bridge a fairly fundamental disconnect: how to best help the average consumer get their hands on 3D models in the first place. Databases are a decent solution — Thingiverse has a devoted community of makers working around to clock to create cool things for us to print out. Simplified software can work, too, but that still requires some artistic talent on the part of the creator. 3D scanners seem to be the most popular solution these days, from Microsoft’s Kinect to MakerBot’s lazy Susan-esque Digitizer.

Fuel3D is the latest company to take its entry to Kickstarter. The handheld 3D scanner is based on a technology developed at Oxford University for medical imaging purposes. Now the company is looking to bring it to market at under $1,000, offering full-color, high-res 3D scans through simple point-and-shoot execution. Once captured, that information can be exported for things like the aforementioned 3D printing and computer modeling. The first three folks who pledge $750 will get their hand on a pre-production model and those who pony up $990 will receive the triangular final version. The company expects to ship in May of next year — assuming it hits that $75,000 goal, of course. After all, Fuel3D can’t exactly print money — yet.

Killzone: Mercenary MP Open Beta Arriving Late Next Month

Earlier this month, we did talk about how Killzone: Mercenary closed multiplayer beta had started to accept sign ups, and needless to say, those sign ups were concluded a short while ago. For those who managed to get in, you ought to be in possession of the necessary information in order to jump in and get going. For those who were on the receiving end of a multiplayer Beta voucher which happened to be part of the promotion via PlayStation Home, do take note that your voucher is meant for the Open Beta in late August, and not for the closed Beta that will launch later today.

As for the rest of you who did not manage to get in, or so happened to hear about it right now, fret not – the multiplayer beta will be opened right on up in late August, so do stay tuned for the details. After all, most folks should prefer a decent open beta, don’t they? In any case, it would be wise to mark down September 10th on your respective calendars if you happen to live in the US, since that is when Killzone: Mercenary will arrive on store shelves in that part of the world.

Xiaomi unveils Red Rice smartphone in China: $130 for 720p and a quad-core CPU

Xiomi unveils the 47inch Red Rice smartphone quadcore 720p for $130

Xiaomi’s talk about doubling smartphone sales over last year sounded a tad ambitious, but it turns out it had a secret weapon. The company just announced the Red Rice smartphone, a pretty decently spec’d model priced at a mere 799 yuan ($130). For that pittance, Chinese buyers will get quite a bit: a quad-core MediaTek CPU, 4.7-inch 720p screen (312 ppi) with Gorilla Glass 2, 1GB RAM, 4GB storage, China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA 3G, dual-sim / dual standby capability, an 8-megapixel rear camera and Xiaomi’s MIUI-flavored Android. Though it’s lacking the WCDMA-3G used by other Chinese networks, China Mobile’s 70 percent market share should give Xiaomi more than enough users to hit its targets, especially at that price.
