‘Hollywood Game Night’: Valerie Bertinelli Gets Aggressive, Starts Tearing Things Up (VIDEO)

Jane Lynch promised she had some super-competitive celebrities lined up for “Hollywood Game Night,” and she wasn’t kidding. Valerie Bertinelli was part of the sophomore episode’s group of celebrities, and she got so competitive, she started tearing things up … literally.

The game was “Smash the Buzzer,” and admittedly, it was asking for the celebrities — and “regular folk” contestants — to get aggressive. Buzzers were set in front of the couches the teams sat on, and the first person to hit the buzzer was able to answer. The two contestants, and all six celebrities, were playing simultaneously. It was a mad dash to the buzzers each time.

The “Hot in Cleveland” star went hard for the buzzer, slamming into it and actually ripping the top of the buzzer off. But that’s not all she ripped.

Halfbrick wants to watch it all burn with Colossatron: Massive World Threat

DNP

The makers of Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja want you to destroy the planet. From the halls of the first annual PAX Australia comes Colossatron: Massive World Threat. Sure, the game’s whole mass-destruction-via-aliens concept sounds a lot like Rampage, but as the announcement trailer shows, it’s oh so much more. Players take control of a modular robotic snake, using all manner of upgradeable weapons and abilities to wreak wanton top-down chaos on an unsuspecting populace. The goal? Causing as much property damage as possible. Think of it as a modern take on Godzilla with a campy anime slant and you’re mostly there. The Queensland, Australia developer’s latest will be playable at its booth for the duration of the show. Can’t make it to the expo? Skip past the break for the debut video.

Apple sends iWork for iCloud beta invitations to everyday users

Apple sends iWork for iCloud beta invitations to everyday users

Apple was quick to invite developers to the iWork for iCloud beta in the aftermath of WWDC, but us commoners have had to settle for watching from afar. The company is quickly opening things up, however — it just started sending out beta invitations to ordinary iCloud users, including some Engadget readers. While this isn’t likely to represent Apple’s promised public beta, it’s clear that we’re now much closer to the day when everyone can give the web-based iWork a try.

VLC returns to iOS after two-year hiatus, brings AirPlay and Dropbox integration

VLC returns to iOS after two-year hiatus

VideoLAN’s original VLC for iOS had a brief and rocky history: open source licensing quirks led to the media player being pulled from the App Store just months after launch. More than two years later, it’s back with a compatible license — and it’s bringing a slew of new features in return for the wait. VLC 2.0 supports all the file formats of its desktop counterpart while throwing in AirPlay, background audio, network streaming and numerous smaller tweaks. It’s also better suited to sharing with support for Dropbox, the iOS sharing prompt, web downloads and WiFi uploads. The revived VLC app is gradually rolling out now, and its source code should be available for tinkering by July 19th.

Notion Ink Adam II tablet, packaging, and dock revealed in slew of images

We saw Notion Ink‘s Adam II tablet in a blurry teaser image that was released back in November, giving us precious few details. This was followed up in May with official details being dropped, as well as another look at the slate. Now we’re getting a better look at the device thanks to a slew of leaked images of the Adam II tablet, as well as its power cable, dock, and packaging. While the page on Behance where it was leaked has since been pulled, we’ve got a gallery of them for you after the break.

18

The images cover the whole gamut, ranging from the Adam II tablet to the dock and the tablet in the dock, to the packaging and the power cable and adapter. One image shows off the covers for the slate, and another features the stylus, revealing a type of stucco rubber grip. A couple diagrams are thrown in as well of both the power adapter and the packaging.

Some of the images are annotated with ribbons of information, and in them we see, for example, the dual tone leather cover for the tablet. The cover has a smooth finish and a magnetic locking strap, with the outside finish being “smooth” and the inside material listed as plastic. There will be three color options: Cerulean Blue & Smokey Grey, Coal Black & Burnt Umber, and Coal Black & Smokey Grey.

The stylus is designed with a “tapered angular profile,” which – in addition to the rubber grip – is meant to make it easy to handle and to help avoid drops. And then there’s the dock, which can be folded up into what looks like an easy to transport rectangle, with it forming a tri-shape when opened. There’s a shot of the tablet within the dock, as well.

Per the official specifications that were released in May, the Adam II will feature a 10.1-inch IPS display, as well as a secondary black and white display on the side, a change up over the original Adam. The resolution is 1280 x 800. Inside, users will find a 1.5GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, as well as 1GB of RAM. The software is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Other specs include Bluetooth, a 6000mAh battery with a reported life of 10 hours on a charge, and a rear/front camera at 2-megapixels. Price hasn’t been revealed yet, but reports have surfaced saying the previously rumored $220 tag was wrong.

Charlotte Hornets Name Approved By NBA: Bobcats Are No More

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Charlotte is the home of the Hornets once again.

The NBA unanimously approved Charlotte’s nickname change from Bobcats to Hornets on Thursday at the league’s Board of Governors meeting. The original Hornets built a supportive fan base in Charlotte from the time they entered the league in 1988 until they moved to New Orleans in 2002.

But the new owners in New Orleans have changed the team’s name to the Pelicans. That opened the door for owner Michael Jordan to bring the Hornets name back to Charlotte. The change will take place after the 2013-14 season.
